Hi,

I am looking into DVC at the moment and would love to hear from anyone else that bought into DVC quite young (early twenties) and what their opinions of it were?

Thanks :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Hi Korbs,

I was 27 and my husband was 24. This was just last year. We both LOVE the "magic" of Disney and we started going every year in 2000. Alls I can say is, we should have bought in sooner. We always stayed in the deluxe resorts and by now, paying what we were paying in room prices, we would probably almost have our DVC paid for. After that, we still have 39 years of great memories to make without hurting our pocket books. We have no children, yet, but when we do we'll be able to share with them the "magic" of Disney. This year we are able to treat my mom (who every year took us as children) my sister and brother in law to a two bedroom vacation home. I never would have been able to do it before DVC.

Our opinion of it was, great accomodations at a great price. We looked at it as an investment in ourselves as it is something we both really enjoy doing and will continue to do year after year. And should the day come (God forbid) that we don't want to go to the WDW resort, we can go somewhere else like Hawaii on our points. That's another great benefit. Flexability.

Hope this helps,
April and Steven

Bought at 27 and you'll hear it often enough, I wish we would have done it sooner. For us though, we couldn't have afforded it any before this.

Korbs,
In our late 30's when we bought in.
One HUGE regret---Not buying sooner.
You seem wise beyond your (y)ears for buying in so young.:teeth:

My husband is 30 and I am 27 and we are expecting our 1st child. We are one of those that wished we bought into DVC when we looked into it on our honeymoon 4 years ago! Being FL residents we were going to Disney every other month and have been on 5 of the DCL cruises. Just think how much we could have paid on our DVC if we had gotten it 4 years ago?! :p

I was 38 when I bought but DVC did not start until I was around 30.Buying young is a good thing so good luck friends.

Yes buying young is great, ONLY if you are truly in a financial position to do so. Only speaking for myself here, but when I was in my early twenties, I was not in any position to make a large discretionary purchase. Heck, who am I kidding? When I was 21, I was buying my father's used car for 500 bucks.... and scraping change for insurance!

Bottom line- If you are financially able to purchase, go for it!

My dh and I were both 26 (we still are now) when we bought. I would have loved to have bought sooner, but We just got married a little over a year ago and had to buy a place to live and all that.

My parents have owned since 1995 and love it...we have been on numerous trips with them. we thought, that whatever happens in life, we are promised at least one vacation a year to my favorite place in the world. we both believe in the importance of time away from work. I just booked my first trip ever as owners...a week at the beach club!

I never felt a moment of buyers remorse at all. One thing that we did was finance the payments...when we saw that it was less than 1 of my college loan payments, we knew that if something as good as Disney was lower than one of those payments and lasts for 30+ years, we would be ok!

26. Both of us. We actually managed to pay it off 2 years ago. It was our wedding present to each other, sort of (actually an inpulse buy during honeymoon). But it's the best gift!!

I was 25 and my husband was 28 four years ago when we bought and we have not regretted it one bit. At the time we owned our first house, and now we are renting while we save up for a house in a MUCH higher cost of living area (half the house for twice the money, literally). Still, we are glad that we have DVC because we got such a great price (relatively) when we bought in 4 years ago and probably would not be able to take vacations without it while we are budgeting very tightly. IMO buying in young allows you to enjoy the entire contract!

Nope, I was 35 and DH was 36 :).

I think as long as you have a good financial head on your shoulders you'll be OK.

DH and I bought at 25 but had to sell a couple years later b/c I decided to stay home with our son fulltime. We sold and actually made a small profit. Things have adjusted now and we just bought back in (at a much higher price...grr!) this summer. You'll love it!

When we looked into buying directly from DVC their interest rates of financial were way too high. That is when we decided to finance our purchase of the resale through our home equity line with our bank.

Dh and I were 46. We could not afford, actually chose not to join when we first heard of DVC.

I quit my teaching job to raise 2 daughters. It never made sense to us for me to continue teaching other children, I was home 16 years doing Mom stuff-PTA, church work, fundraising for the local hospital, and volunteering at the elementary school. I am very happy we lived life this way.- no regrets. We traveled to WDW every 3 years during this time and took less expensive vacations in between.

Now we own a house, have no credit card debt, the kids are in the college tuition years and I'm back to work as a substitute teacher helping to pay for DVC. We are on the waiting list to add-on.

I was 38 and DH was 39...... We bought just months after first hearing about DVC. We may be old.... but our children are not....

DH was 26, I was 27 -- this was about 3 1/2 years ago. We got a lump sum of money from selling a car (we'd alread bought a new one and it just took us forever to sell the old one ourselves) so we decided no better purchase we could think of! We were CMs so we got a 15% discount, plus MB, and we financed about half for 6 years through Disney (low interest rate for CMs at the time -- you can probably do better elsewhere is you need to finance) which we've almost paid off.

And we've had plenty of trips we wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise without the purchase, including a trip to DL and another to DL Paris!

I was 22...I was a manager (lead cast member) at the Disney store while I was in college, so when I graduated college, I had to leave my position at the store. Before I had to say goodbye to my cast member perks, I picked up 265 pts...sort of a graduation gift to myself...this was a year and a month ago.

Boy, most of you got in very young! Iam 47, my wife is 43, DD is 6. Back in 1995 my wife and I considered it but buying a home was more important. We waited til 2002 (BCV) because my love for disney was compounded because of DD and I was much more financially settled. We purchased 300 pts without even blinking.

I was 21 when I bought my intial 600 points. But the thing is that I had a nice trust fund kicking in at that time, so I could easily afford to buy in thanks to Mommy and Daddy.
