Im just curious. Im new to the whole renting/transferring process. How would you respond to folks who offer to rent/transfer your points for 8 to 9 dollars when you state in your post that you are asking 10 (which is low as is)? :confused3

I would suggest putting in your post that your price is non-negotiable and that all inquiries requesting a lower price will be ignored.

or

sign them up for as many SPAM lists as possible (j/k)

Oh good one, thanks, I will do that....not the spamming..the suggestion that is...

It's not unheard of to negotiate prices in a rental. I would not be offended by the inquiry. I would simply tell them if you're not interested in considering a lower price.

I like the idea of including it in your listing. Keep the spamming idea as a backup if they can't follow instructions.

I would tell them that there is a misprint in your post and you are renting for 12 a point and will meet them halfway at 10 :rotfl2:

If you are "asking $10," you are implying that the price is negotiable.
That said, I think the minimum price for points should be in the $12 - $13 range, especially when selling to non DVC members!

2 years ago I was paying $485 for 5 night S-T at OKW though a renter on ebay and happy about it. also $800 for perfared at BWV in Oct. As you can see it was over the $10 a point. I had no problem with his terms.

I would counter their offer at $12 - $13. (or just say: "no thanks, need to get...)

Remember... A rental (non-transfer) has risks for you as a member and for them (both parties have to trust each other).

Personally I think the rental price should be higher. Do the math on how much you are asking vs. what they would have to pay w/ the best discount on the market at off season.

Understanding that you can't change the "going rate" by yourself... note that more and more people are starting to charge $11 - $12.

Don't underestimate the value of your brand (or inflation).

Good luck.

Personally, I would just reply with a NO... I would also amend your listing to ask for 11.00 & non-negotiable... you're renting too low IMHO...

I would just say no and explain to them what my costs are. Most DVC members do not realize that their true costs are probably at least $10 per point when you facor in your mortgage interest or lost income on the initial purchase.

Why bother with a long explanation? They only want to hear "yes, I'll give them to you for $8 a point."

It is a very short explanation and I like educating people. There are to many people on the boards who think the cost of DVC points are just the dues amount. After explaining some renters realizes that at a higher price they are saving 20-50% off rack rate while the DVC member is making a small profit for their time.

Agree to the $8 price but tell them you're doing a 2 for 1 special.

Yep - buy 2 points , get 1 ! :rotfl2::rotfl:

Prospective renters keep asking for a cheaper rate because too many DVCers keep giving in to that request. I dont know why, but many sellers must figure no one will ever come along and give them the "asking" price. You can tell from the types of rental adds on the R&T board, many DVCers only go there to dump points. Some appear to have minimal understanding of the entire DVC reservations operation. Many have never posted on the DIS or participated in this community (at least under the same user name). If I were renting, I'd never fork over my money to a R&T board "dump and run" seller. I'd pay more for someone with a DIS history that can be at least be reviewed. Many prospective renters are equally clueless having unrealistic expectations, wanting a less than All Star price, etc.

When I rent, I want to rent to someone who understands the DVC system to some degree, and has done some homework. By asking a slightly higher price, that has been my "customer" experience. I usually get the serious WDW planner who is a repeat WDW guest, recognizes a good deal when they see it and doesn't feel the need to bargain shop my listing.

Just did a quick tabulation. 1 bedroom at SSR for June 18 to 24 cost $2709.48 or 189 points easy math $14.33 a point. $10. is a steal I would charge at least $12. they still save over $400. IMO we are doing each other a diservice by renting so cheap.
