How tuff are they on heigh restirctions?

ROFL. Excuse me, but I would never put my child in danger. Thank you very much. To suggest I would is just rude. I have ridden those rides many times and we KNEW what they were like. We also know her and knew she would do fine on them.

However after reading your second post I have to point something out. The height restrictions are not decided based on what they feel children can handle. The height is based on the safe size a child must be so that the restraints on the vehicle will properly protect the child. That is why a ride such as Primevil Whirl can have the same height as RnRC when RnRC is far more intense. Just because you know your child can safely handle the ride, does not mean the ride can safely handle your child.

Yes, and as I stated before, my child was 40" tall. Otherwise, we would not have even bothered getting into line. A few weeks before we went, she saw her DR. and in stocking feet she was 40" tall... so with shoes on she was most likely a fair bit over that.

I would never place my child in danger. I would never cheat the system and in any way make her taller than she is. If the ride says 40", I would respect that.

Im not flaming you I just don't want people to have the wrong idea of height requirements. I understand your child was tall enough, and I understand the point of your original post. I just dont want anyone (and I an not directing it at you) to think that they know there child will be safe on a ride even if they don't meet the height requirement.

Don't worry Peter. I agree with you. As much as we want our children to get to experience every thing in the World, I think it would be foolish to put your children on rides that Disney has expressly stated they are not eligible for.

That is why when we go in November, we will do a baby swap on many of the rides. We certainly would not try and take our then 21 month old on most of the rides, unless a cast member says it is ok. We will also not allow our 4 and a half year old to go on anything she does not meet the minimum requirements for... because there is always a *reason* for those requirements. Even if she were able to ride Mission Space, we would not put her on it because she is not old enough to understand what will be happening and does not have the real world understanding for us to explain it to her well enough. But, that part is where the parental understanding of your own children comes in, and that is the part that no one but the parent can truly decide. Unfortunately, there will always people who push their kids to do things when they shouldn't, but I think that is more the exception than the rule.

I truly believe most people are like me, devoted to their kids and more concerned for their health and well-being than for whatever thrill or fun they may have to wait for another trip to enjoy.

I am a little concerned about the disparity in the measuring--I just measured my son today-he is 40 3/4 inches in his bare feet, which means he will be at least 41 inches with shoes when we go to WDW in 4 weeks.

I KNOW he is tall enough for the 40 inch height restricted rides, but will he be measured as such, what with kids being measured as tall enough at one time and then not tall enough at another?
Is it up to an inch off at times?

I would never use any tricks to make my kids appear taller than they are, but when they are tall enough, I think they should be good to go, but it seems like sometimes that doesn't happen.

I don't know. I have heard that but in my experience in May where my child was just hitting the stick with the top of her head at 40", she was allowed on every ride with the 40" requirement. They seemed to be very fair and she hit the same mark on the stick at every place. I didn't see any discrepancy or at least one big enough where a child would make it on one stick and then not another. Like I said my child just hit that stick. She could fit under the stick but her head hit it without any space. Can't get any closer than that and she was never turned away.

So although I have heard the discrepancy issues, I have actually not encountered it. I think if your child is over 40" with barefeet, he/she will have no problem with the 40" ride requirement.

Okay, question here--is the bottom of the stick supposedly exactly 40" or is it 40" plus a little taller to account for shoes (since everyone riding will have some kind of shoe on)?
I ask because my son measures 39.5+ inches without shoes and is right at 40 inches with shoes on.

I'm not going to even mention to him the possibility that he may be allowed to ride some of the rides he couldn't get on last year, just in case he doen't end up being tall enough. It will be a nice surprise for him if he does measure up. But I'm curious!

If it wasn't exactly 40" than people that were 40" with barefeet and they wore flip flops or sandals that day may not be able to ride and that would be unfair.

I don't think my daughter was 40" without her shoes but she was with shoes. If they added a little to account for shoes she would not have made the requirement at all. I am guessing your son is close to the height my daughter was when she went.

A couple of weeks before we went to DW in June, our almost 4DS was measured at 42 inches at the doctor. When we went to DW, his head hit the top of the measuring stick at 40 inches. He was measured at Splash Mtn., KRR, BTMR. He wasn't measured at Soarin' or Dinosaur.

Just to clarify are you saying the stick was correct in his height or do you think it was off?

Could he fit under the stick and stand up?

I can't remember how wide the stick is that they measure them with but my daughter hit the bottom of it and was allowed so I am assuming that is 40". She could stand under the stick and her head hit it. My nephew got measured at RNR and same thing happened to him. His head hit the bottom of it and they let him on.

The top of the stick would probably be around 42+" I am guessing. Depending on the width of the stick.

I don't know whose was off. We were very confident before we left that he would be able to get on all the 40" restricted rides, then when we got there, it just made the cut. His head touched the stick when he stood under it.
