I was talking to a friend about how to get somewhere and told them to take Sepulveda. She then asks me how I know its Sepulveda and not Sepul Veda (supple vida)

Spanish syllables end with the vowel or some constanents like don-de.
Say pool vay da
Though I moider it and say seh pull ve duh or even suh pull ve duh. with a leaning toward the pool sound.
Cuh rhymes with duh however true spanish is more of a cah or caw sound.
huen is one word and is wayne and some where between wayne and when and I do use both since I do the same with kay passa and keh passa.
ga as in gah though when slurring I use guh like duh
I had a spanish teacher who said we should say grassy azz for gracias. I hope that got past censors, lol.
Una buena chica con una corazon grande, gracias.
Like I am supposed to get New Orleans pronounced right or Sault Ste. Marie, oy now we are in language class.

Sometimes the place isn't pronounced the way it is supposed to be. Like San Rafael up here. It isn't pronounced the way it would in Spanish but like San Ra-Fell. Once a commercial ran on the radio up here for a conference at a hotel there and you could tell they had no knowledge of the area because they pronounced it wrong. After a few days they changed it because they must have gotten lots of calls about it.
What gets me is people trying to say Oregon on the national news.. it is not OR uh Gone or OR E gone it is OR e gin ( e short like in Elephant or a short I sound for it as in it... and Gin - g as in get, i as in igloo and then n)
Tell me about it. Not only do we live in OR-I-GUN, but the town we live in is The Dalles. I can't tell you how many times people say: "Why is it called THE Dalles, not just Dalles?" Or they try to pronounce it The Dal-eees or The Dallas.
Dalle is french for a type of stone and refers to the local rock formations thus the french called them dalles and you have The Rockies and The Dalles. Must have named the town when they was too busy to find a really good name.
Try saying San Luis OBispo 4 times. It is San Loo ees Oh Bees Po
