How to make money without a job

$6,000 seems like a lot for a Disney Cruise for 2. There will be discounts and special offers between now and them so keep an eye out. (Maybe on mousesavers.com) Also, there must be at least 2 birthdays and Christmas' between now and them... assuming you celebrate Christmas. Instead of gifts ask for Disney gift cards to use toward your cruise.

You may want to also get a Passporter guide from the library so you can est all of the other costs that come along with a cruise besides the initial price such as tips, souvenirs, drinks, shore excursions, etc.

If you are lucky enough to live in an area with a Disney Store you could work there part-time... some people mentioned on other posts that employees get some good discounts on travel to Disney & cruises.

Good luck. I hope you will be posting a trip report in 2012:hippie:

Not to be a buzz-kill, but no cruise line would even let you sail (unless you were married) if you are under 21 without a parent or someone being of age!

You asked "how to make money without a job?" The answer is, pure and simple, you can't. If you even have to ask that question, then perhaps you aren't ready to take that kind of trip. What do both of your parents have to say about this trip? I know what I would say if my son asked me!!! But first, I would get his head examined:rotfl2:
I guess that its all in the way you interpret the post. I took it to mean she was looking for ways to make money without a traditional job. Sort of looking for outside the box suggestions. Again Im not judging whether she should go b/c theres no way I would encourage my own daughter to take any kind of trip with her boyfriend if it meant shared sleeping arrangements. But the op didnt ask for our opinion on that either.

$6000 in two years is $250 a month. That's a lot of money to save up without having a job.

I know someone was joking about selling plasma, eggs, or a kidney, but really, selling plasma might be a good idea.

I can see where this thread is going.....it's going to be going, going, gone fast....mods are gonna jump on this one quick if the tone keeps up. Seriously.

I am making money for Disney, but none of that money is coming from my job. It is all extra income, so yes, someone can make money without having a job. Is it harder? Yup, but it can be done.

OP, you can also look into doing online surveys. Some sites I use and gotten paid from are Opinion Outpost, Lightspeed, MySurvey, Valued Opinions, and Mindfield. I would also look into cutting the cost of the trip because that is a lot of money for just 2 people.

Um, wrong. I went on a cruise with a bunch of girlfriends on spring break in the 12th grade. We were 18. It was on Royal Carribean, so not a little rinky dink operation.

I don't see why people ALWAYS feel the need to judge and throw comments out there. What the heck??!! She came on here asking how she can make money here and there during the semester. Why do ANY of you feel that you have the right to judge her, throw nasty comments her way, or tell her what you think she should do? :confused3

Anyway, OP. Look into the Live Ops website posted early in the thread... and also there are places that you can do online surveys. It's not a ton of money but every little bit helps and if you have 2 years it can add up! Also I knew a girl in college who sold her eggs. She made $15,000 in 2 years (not sure of the specifics, it wasn't a TON of work but it wasn't easy, if you KWIM) and if you are the type of person who could do that then go for it! (donate eggs, wondering about a potential baby that's "half yours" out there... I was close to applying but I just knew I wouldn't be able to deal with that idea. Nothing wrong with it, it's just not everyone's cup of tea KWIM?)

Good luck!!!

Well you must have been lucky, or the rules have changed since you cruised.

Taken directly from RC website: "No Guest younger than the age twenty-one (21) will be assigned to a stateroom unless accompanied in the same stateroom by an adult twenty-one (21) years old or older. A guest's age is established upon the first date of sailing." As posted, they make exceptions for married couples (as well as military), and will allow people under 21 in a room, if there is someone over 21 in a connecting room.

Carnival Cruise line is even more strict, not only do you have to be 21, but anyone under 21 has to be accompanied by someone over 25

However, since this is about a DCL, Disney's age policy is more relaxed, I believe you only have to be 18 to sail by yourself.

Admitedly it's been a long time since high school :rolleyes1 They totally changed the rules in the xxxx number of years since I sailed, because none of us were 21.

There are so many ways to make money without working in the traditional sense. You must think outside the box;)

Mystery shopping. I work full-time but during my lunch hour and other free times (not much of that with 3 little ones, though!) I schedule the occasional shop. I make anywhere from $4-$15 on each one and over the course of a month make about $125. It's not much but it pays DH's cell phone bill... :lmao:

Two very reputable companies are Marketforce and Bestmark. The vast majority of shops I do are for Marketforce and their affiliate, Certified Field Associates. It's the kind of thing that's perfect for a college student as you look and see what they've got in your area and you pick and choose the assignments that appeal to you and fit into your schedule.

Lots of fast food shops where they'll give you $7.50 plus reimbursement for food (not so good on the waistline so I have to make sure I only "taste" the food without scarfing down the whole thing!), grocery shops where you'll get $10 reimbursement for items purchased, restocking stores with things like trading cards or calling cards that pay around $8 for a half hour of work. Little bits here and there where you actually have to go and do something, submit an online report and scan in any required receipts, and pay attention to detail. They pay either every 2 or 4 weeks for work completed previously.

Costs nothing to sign up with either of the companies I mentioned but you will need to provide your SS# as they are real companies and you're treated as an Independent Contractor. If you make over $600 in shop fees (not reimbursements, they don't count as income), you'll get a 1099 for your taxes.

Even if you don't have a specific reason to save money, it's worth looking into for a little extra spending cash. :goodvibes

One of the guys I used to waiter/waitress with sold plasma/blood twice a week. I believe at his location he was paid either $35 or $40 per time. Said it was the easiest money he ever made.

And I'm not encouraging this trip -but we all need to have our dreams!!!

I think it's great you are planning so far ahead. I do agree with the separate savings account advise just in case.

Check 1-800-Flowers, I know they sometimes hire work from home customer service reps. Is there anything you can make that can be sold on Etsy? Does your school have job postings? What about something like pampered chef, tastefully simple or similar? A lot of these companies allow for online ordering so parties aren't necessarily essential.

It's possible the OP will be 21 in 2012.

I would got the rewards board disboards and check out harvey girl thread about 75.00 gift cards in six weeks. There is plenty of site to make money on. I just came back from Orlando, Florida use those programs. It can be done. It took me about a year to save that much money. That is includeing tickets, gas, hotel, and food.

There is another thread on the budget board on make money to. I would check that out.

I sitting on 500.00 amazon gift cards for free now. I can't decide on what I want to spend it on.

I am actually proud of your willingness to plan 2 years ahead and commend you for your determination. Yes, if you store, save, and earn even a little each day you will be able to achieve such a dream.

Be creative. There was a girl in NYT who started an organic veggie store from her own garden. She makes a ton. You can try worm composting. You can sell used items on garage sales. You can run errands for your relatives. You can tutor and you can research online for more opportunities.

At the end of the day, stick to the plan even if it is slow.

Selling eggs is actually very lucrative, if hard on the body. We are talking thousands. There are people out there who are willing to pay a premium for the eggs of young healthy women with high SAT scores or who go to certain "name" colleges. If you have that, you can get several Disney trips out of it.

Until I got to 'young healthy women" I truly envisioned chicken coops and the organic, free range type.

This whole thing puzzles me though. How can you plan for a vacation when you don't have a job lined up? Don't you need to worry about resumes, getting the job after graduation, finding an apartment, taking over the car insurance from your parents, learning to cook your own meals, etc before going on a Disney cruise?

Wow. I'm very surprised with the outpouring of responses in just a few days! Thank you to everyone who helped me with all your different ideas and words of encouragement.

For those of you who wish to waste your time judging, making assumptions, and trying to turn me away from this goal... first of all, you do not know me. The only fee that I am even partially responsible for with college are my books and personal fees (food, clothing, etc). I have no obligation to tuition and room/boarding. I am going to an in-state public university, so the cost is a lot easier on my parents, who are the primary spenders on my education. And I'm not saying that I'm not going to work while I'm here- I'm looking for a job everywhere. In fact, I was just in the middle of some job hunting when I decided to take a short break to see how this thread was going. I have a very good work ethic, any of my previous employers will tell you that, so it's not like I'm trying to go on this trip without having to lift a finger (like I said, I'm planing on working A LOT during my vacations).

I suppose I worded my question incorrectly. I plan on working as much as I can, but until I get a job, I was wondering how I could make money on the side to fund this trip.

And you should all be pretty grateful that a young person like me is trying to fund a trip to DISNEY WORLD, and not Las Vegas or Miami where I'm gonna waste all of my money on alcohol and what-not.

Again, to those of you who have given me HELPFUL suggestions and ideas.... I will certainly look into some of those. For the rest of you who thought you could deter me from my goals... think again. I actually laughed at some of your comments because you think I'm some immature college kid who cares more about a fantasy cruise than my education.

Have a magical day everyone :goodvibes
