How to get discount AAA membership?

We let our membership lapse last year when I found out that towing was only 5 miles. I've since learned that they have several plans and will have towing options that are more than 5 miles. (I travel nearly 80 miles round trip and only use local mechanic)

But $99 for an annual membership seems high. Does anyone have any ideas how to get a lower membership or discount?

I have never found any discounts for an AAA membership.......

We currently have a Good Sam premium membership that covers towing for he entire family for $109 for the year. It always covers towing for our camper.

We have the plus membership, and they will tow us 100 miles if need be. If you need that 100 mile tow just once, you'll never complain about paying the annual fee again. I broke down 90 miles from home last year. Thank goodness I had the AAA plan that I had.

We use to have AAA plus and the 100 miles of towing came in handy a few times over the years! We upgraded to AAA Premiere last year and now get 200 miles of towing. We almost hand to use it this past winter due to our truck having issues. It is definitely nice to have.

I have never seen a discount on membership and feel that it's worth the cost. Our membership lapsed a month ago, so I signed up again this weekend and found that they waived a fee of $10, for what I can't recall. I guess that could be considered a discount.

We're also AAA Premiere level because we often take weekend trips.

I am the queen of bad luck, so it is nice to know that if ever something happens, we and the car will get home. I had my headlights fail when we were at a faraway Indian Casino (meaning dark two-lane roads on a mountain-esque drive home) and I've had numerous flat tire and engine failures.

Even when we both got newer cars, we opted for the superior coverage. I figure a tow costs MANY more times the price of a membership and we use the discounts just enough to cover the costs of it.

I wish I knew of a discount, but they often have contests in their magazine that you can win.

It should be noted that AAA promotions vary with each individual auto club...

For example, my club serves Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Eastern Kansas, Southern Illinois, Southern Indiana & Texarkana, TX.

Best to call your local club to see if they can offer you any incentives to rejoin.

Didn't even get an incentive when I got thier insurance.

But it's something I wouldn't go without. Now my aunt aunt uses the AARP roadside service because she's a member and I believe it was cheaper for her to go that route.

I have AAA but just the basic for hotel discounts. My auto insurance has emergency road service for just $6 a year that covers towing much better than AAA.

We have the gold plan and get 100 miles of towing. I've been a member of AAA for over 15 years. I would never be without it. If you have an older car, it is certainly worth the piece of mind that for less than $10 month, if you need a tow or have locked your keys in your car or your battery needs a jump, you can call AAA 4 times a year without paying anything extra. The discounts at other retailers for AAA members are pretty nice, too. Discounts at Lenscrafters alone can definitely justify the cost of a membership.

When our daughter was in college, it was nice to know that if her car broke down, we could have it towed back home without costing anything additional.

Back to your original question, I've never seen a discount for AAA memberships -- well, not snce the Magic Kingdom Card was done away with and that was probably 10 years ago.

I have seen discounts on AAA memberships at my old club(Central Penn). But it was only around Christmas time. Usually $10 discount on any membership, including associate.

ETA: I just checked my new AAA club(Allied group territory), and they offer a $5 discount on annual dues if you sign up for automatic renewal with a credit card. So, as a pp suggested, I would check with your local club to see when and if they offer any sort of discounts.

I have the gold plan and would not do without it, have added family members too. We upgraded to gold after realizing that we did not have the 100 towing, and we needed it...cost us hundreds to get towed when we did not have it....it is well worth it. They have started us, brought gas once (don't even go there) and again, worth it.....especially if you travel

thanks all! I just picked up my 2001 altima with just over 150k miles on it from my mechanic last nite- new radiator. But this was the 2nd time in the 3 weeks since it hit 150kmiles that it was at the mechanic and although I was able to drive it there- I know that that may not be the case going forward. I am changing car insurance, however- so before I sign up I am going to check and see if they have any deals that I can add on rather than do AAA separately.

That is what i was going to say. Most insurance companies can add towing to your insurance policy. Getting the car off the road faster reduces the chance that it can get hit so they will happily add it on for a small cost. I think Erie (my company) has it for $10-15... Although, i have the AAA gold Plus (automatic renewing)...i am not sure if the gold means anything??? Haven't had to use it but know .1 second after i cancel it all three of my cars will break down simultaneously...

Yes. Our daughter did have her own card as part of our family plan. The more members you have in your family that require memberships, the less amount we had to pay for each member after we had two original members. I should have stated that earlier. I certainly did not mean to insinuate that she did not have her own membersip card

Also want to point out that each membership gets 4 service calls per year. Not just 4 service calls per family. So if three family members have their own card, you could be entitled to 12 service calls. Of course, as the PP stated, there is a membership card that needs to be shown or at least you are told that. There are instances where they (at least for us) will honor your membership without having the card in your possession. Hubby is good about misplacing cards and I was able to place a service call for him without the card being in his possession. They are able to access your info and determine that one does indeed have an active membership

I get discounted membership offers from AAA in the mail all the time. Often it involves adding an additional member for free.

Some employers give discounts. Sometimes you can get discounts through AAA's Facebook page. Look around, the discount memberships are there.

Have had AAA since I got my own car in college and have made my membership fee money back every year because of the discounts. They have also unlocked my door when I left my keys in the car more often than I want to admit. The towing is just icing on the cake.

Before you file a claim on your insurance for towing, talk to your agent first. That mere $25 reimbursement could cost you hundreds at renewal.

I have had my AAA membership since 1997 and wouldn't be without it. I have the AAA Plus. I easily pay the fee with the discounts I get thru the year. I get my WDW tickets there as well as movie tickets. I also use the card at various restaurants and hotels for a discount. Check your AAA membership site and it will list the discounts. My car just needed a jump last weekend. That was free. They have a battery replacement program. They would have charged $130 for the battery and installation. I was away on a business trip and my DH wasn't sure if that was a good price so he said he would do it himself. WEll, it ended up the battery alone was $100 so that $130 was a great price if you ask me. LOVE my AAA.
