How old is to old??

Bottom line, if I deem it unsafe for my kid to wait outside or to go into a bathroom alone, I am going to do what I need to do. Give me dirty looks, say something, whatever. Luckily, I don't have to care and I'll likely never see you again. :) 7 billion people in the world. I can stand pissing off a few.
And don't worry too much about my "poor little boy". I imagine he'll be just fine. If the worst thing I do is take him to the ladies room, I'm doing alright.

:lmao:
Perfect for this thread!!

So many people are just judgemental a-holes. I have never heard of this thing about how men should hold their pants in the bathroom. Maybe these guys had single moms who had no idea. Or maybe it shouldn't matter at all. Can't please everyone.

Your "poor little boy" and my "poor little boy" I'm sure would get along famously......since they have both visited........ahhhhhh THE LADIES ROOM!!!!!!! I agree if the worst we do is take them potty in the girls room then I will say we did ok!

I am a bit keyed up about the topic which I think means I need to drop it.

My DH was homeschooled. We hear crap about it all the time. DH is terribly smart, if a little less social. He does do the just opening the fly thing. As does our son (which often results in extra laundry for me.) I just didn't know it was a thing and would not have taught my son if I were single. Ridicule will come no matter what I do, but it is my intention to teach my child to be the boy who kindly makes mention, not points and laughs.

Why would you be keyed up? You already said you really don't care what anybody thinks nor how uncomfortable you will make others.

It is totally inappropriate to bring a boy over 8 in the girls room (unless they are special needs.)

However, if you absolutely feel you must embarrass your pre-teen, adolescent young man, feel free to bring him in the stall with you. Everybody here has said that they don't mind as long as you, the mother, is the only one who is uncomfortable.

What you do NOT have the right to do is make others uncomfortable by bringing a way over age young man into the LADIES room.

Agreed! Reason has flown the coop.

Agreed.

Anybody who is so paranoid about life that they think bringing middle-schoolers into a ladies bathroom is a reasonable proposal could probably benefit from a bit of therapy.

I believe everybody on this thread has younger children, at least nobody has mentioned their 12 year olds, so above statement does not pertain to anybody here. Just a comment on what the OP (if the boys were not in there by mistake.)

You know what's weird? I have no idea how my husband or son use a public restroom. I never even thought about it. Maybe I should ask my DH what he taught our son. I guess I never knew it was a big deal.

I think this should go on the next "what did you learn from the DIS thread"

I'm the same way. :rotfl:

I guess that I have never really thought about it. DS went to the men's room since he was 6 or maybe 7 depending on location and I guess that he figured it out. ;)

Ditto that here. I have just been laughing as this thread has progressed. My boys are almost 18 and 20. All I could think was "Thank the high heavens I have NO IDEA how they use the public restrooms!" :rotfl:

I'm a single mom, and other than reminding him to wash his hands before he came out, I definitely didn't explain what to do in the men's room.

So, I asked him how he figured it out, and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said it's pretty obvious and you can easily figure it out as you go along.

Is "going" in a public restroom any different than at home? I don't do anything different, why would a boy?

Boys use urinals that are in a common area in public restrooms and don't do so at home. That's the only difference I can see.

I have never even seen the inside of a mens bathroom, HONEST. The thought of them makes me a little, YUCK. Peeing out with everyone else. So glad I am not a man. lol

um, because in public restrooms they have communal urinals -- which I'm hoping you don't have in your home.

I'm amazed how many women on here have never been in a men's bathroom. Didn't any of you go to college? LOL!

I'm also adding this thread to my long list of evidence of problems with mothers and their boys -- women will never truly attain equality when they raise their boys to be so coddled.

But they also have at least one stall with a regular toilet. No reason a boy could not use that.

And eventually they are going to have to learn to change in a locker room. Or walk into a bathroom where the one stall is so filthy they'd never sit down in it. It's better if they can learn young to go with the flow.

LOL! You really haven't spent that much time in men's bathrooms. Have you ever seen the state of most of the stalls? There are plenty of reasons that he likely couldn't (and shouldn't) use that.

***To explain my knowledge of men's restrooms, I was a pretty bold and obnoxious twenty-something, so I frequently bypassed the women's restrooms at bars, sporting events, etc., where the women's restroom line was ridiculous and there was NO line for the men. I quickly discovered, however, that waiting in line was a much better alternative then using a stall in a men's restroom.

In a place like WDW, my guess is that they stalls in a mens room are just as clean as the womans room.

And no, the only men's room I have spent any time in, is the one at the bar I manage. No reason for me to spend time in a mens room.

My friends and I did this too but we never had a messy men's room problem. They were very clean.
