How much was your first house?

Holy crap! That's amazing. You can't buy a lot for that around me and I don't think you would have been able to in 2001 either... so jealous! What part of the country are you in, if that's not too intrusive?

First house was like 410k in 2003. Housing in the Nashville area is expensive. It's ridiculous. We're not San Fran or NYC!

We are a NJ suburb of NYC (10 miles away, so an hour commute), median home is $390,000 although some neighboring towns are more expensive (2 towns over is $670,000).

Having spent months of my life in the city, I believe it without a doubt! Location is everything, in terms of the city, and then the area within the city too. Sometimes a mile or 2 or a block or 2 for school districts make a huge $ difference.

Bought 1st house for $64,500 in 1999, was a 2 bed, 800 sq. ft house with no basement on 1 acre of land and needed work. Sold it in 2001 for $135K and moved to the next county west. Bought a 6 year old ranch, 3-bed, 2 bath 1200 sq. ft with a basement that could be finished on 2 acres for $169K.

$145K in 1997 - 4 bedroom cape code style house, something like 2,100 sq. ft. Bought it by owner right before we got married. Sold it in 2003 for around $155, I think?

Built the house we are in now (subdivision model home) for $316K.

Yes, a few miles from my home are housing projects, and homes worth several million dollars (in another direction). Some towns have excellent public schools, others not so much.

Only bought one house, we still live in it. We bought a house that we "grow into" as it was cheaper than renting. Paid $245,000 in 2003 with 30% down. similar homes in the area are now going for $750,000-$825,000 depending on view or lot size. Great schools and my mum and sister live in the neighbourhood too.

First house bought in 1999 for $112,000, sold in 2005 for $120,000.
House now, bought in 2005 for $245,000, is worth $350,000.

Bought my first house in Orlando for $82,000.00 in 1993. Sold it for $127,500 in 2003. Wasn't the best surrounding neighborhood, but the subdivision was decent enough.

We bought our first (and only house so far) in 2011 for $175k. We could sell it now for around $250k.

Bought out first house in 2012 for $112,000. Sold it last year for $200,000. Bought our current house for $330,000.

Gotta look at everything. Around here you can still get a house for under $100k, but I very much doubt that $15/hour is considered "making some bucks" where you are. It is here.

My first and only house really cost me $0. Financed 100% at $88k (in 2000) and she got it in the divorce but also got the $50k worth of home equity loan from her credit card spending issue.

First home was a 1 year old mobile home (1995 bought in 96) that the owners only lived in for a few months. Paid $19,500 and sold in 2000 for $16,000.

Third and current home I paid $9000 cash. 1976 mobile home. I'm stuck here until my youngest graduates from high school.

My parents bought our house in the 60's for $39,000. I can't remember what they sold it for.
The house sold again a couple months ago for 3.1 Million! (Its deep in Silicon Valley)

I bought my first house in 2001 for I think $72,000. It was an old house that had been turned into an upstairs/downstairs duplex. I lived downstairs and rented out the upstairs. I only lived there a few years though because I quickly realized being a landlord was NOT for me.

$55 K for the first house we built in Delaware, 1994. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, 2 car garage, no basement. 1 acre lot. Rancher
Have since bought/sold a few times. Built 3 out of 4 of our marital homes...

530000 $for a small house, with no land in a „cheap“ city not attractive to investment people in Europe.
I love American prices for houses and no, the average person doesn’t make more money here. 10% down payment is good here average length of mortgage 10 years and then it‘s not paid off for a long time.
The average family can not afford to buy a house here anymore and the market is stripped.

We’re still in the first house we bought. It was $125,000 in 1994 - in Maryland.

$78,950 in 1983 that we sold in 1996 for $68,000. Bought our current home in 1994 fo $137,500 and it is now worth $300k.
