I'm curious how much everyone budgets for mousekeeping? Also, do you base it on the number of people in the room? They've got to clean the room either way, but 4 people would make more of a mess then 1 person would (unless that one person is reeeeeeeeally messy!)

I usually tip $3 per day, left each day on the coverelet in an envelope labelled "Housekeeping". Weould tip more if we were particularly messy or if housekeeping ever provided an extraordinary service -- neither of which has ever been the case.

We only use one of the beds. and do not make any sort of mess at all. Have we been too cheap? We are bringing our DD1 this time, so I would think she would leave something more to clean!

Usually $2 a day, but if we are a mess, we double it. Mickey

I have 2 kids...3 and 4, so we definitely had more to clean!;)

We usually leave $5 each morning, although it can be more. Here's an example--when DH ran the marathon two years ago, he went ack to the room and showered, and then we went out. He put his running clothes over the edge of the tub. (I don't touch those things--they're TOXIC! LOL! :p )

At any rate, we went out to get something to eat, and while we were gone the hosuekeeper had come, she TOUCHED those things. :p EEEWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She hung them up on the retractable line over the tub. For that she got an extra tip :)

$5. a day for 4 of us. I leave it daily too in special Mousekeeping envelopes. Just in case the housekeeper changes each day.

when I was in high school- on weekends

I got a tip ONCE(unless the more 'senior' maids were stealing it before we got in the room!)

Last December we stayed at POR. There were 4 of us (two kids, 13 and 2). I made holliday envelopes before leaving home and filled them with $8 per day ($2 per person). We aren't all that messy but the way I looked at it was: I spent an arm and a leg financing the Disney corporation, it wasn't going to kill be to give some hard working maids a nice tip. The result was, our first day returning to the room we were dazzled. We had towell animals and decorations everywhere, a pyramid of mickey shampoos, and DS (2) toys were all arranged to make an adorable display. My kids were so thrilled, it was as if Santa had visited! We got towell animals and cute arrangements every day. It was more than worth it to me to spend a few extra bucks making someone else happy (not to mention the reward I got back for my kids).

When we go in Nov. I plan to leave around 5+ each day for MouseKeeping in some really cute cards I made. The scrapbooker in me just couldn't leave it in a plain card......LOL

We leave $5 for four on a pillow on the bed before we leave in the morning. I think it is appropriate to tip less if you are one or two.

Nothing..According to the info you receive at WDW when checking in, housekeeping is not a postion where tips are expected :smooth:

Thanks again to everyone for your replies. I had figured 2 per person per day would be about right, but since I am a single traveller, 2 bucks seemed too little. So I've decided on 3 per day, unless the situation warrants more or less.

jctwizzer, I will admit that I always followed this policy (you can see from my sig how many trips I've taken and I am ashamed to admit that this is the first time I'm thinking about mousekeeping). I don't know why, but I've never tipped housekeeping at any hotel. I tip very well everywhere else; my nail technician, servers and bartenders, my hairdresser. But for some reason I had just completely neglected housekeeping, and I guess it's probably for the reason you state, that it's often said that it's a position that isn't expecting tips. But just because someone doesn't expect something doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Suddenly I found myself feeling like a big heel for never tipping before. So I'm remeding that on this trip. I've already made up little envelopes for mousekeeping :)

My mousekeeping/housekeeping/maid tipping budget when I travel is Zero. At Disney the mousekeeping is not considered to be a tipped position.

The payscale for those people you have been tipping reflects the fact that tips are an expected part of their income. Housekeeping employees at WDW are paid more than those people because tipping is not factored in. Having said all that, tipping housekeeping is more discretionary and up to each individual. We leave tips for housekeeping if warranted......we just don't budget for it.
