How much film to bring??

I'm taking the 7-day Magic cruise and I'm just wondering how much film to take with me?? How many pictures do some of you take? Normally, I take a ton of pictures, so I'm assuming I'll do the same on board. Also, is it safe for the film to be X-rayed?? Will it hurt the film, not in an ouch sense(LOL), but will it deteriorate it in any way??

Take twice what you think you will use. You can always bring it home again. I think that I took about 18 rolls for the 7 day and brought only 4 home not exposed. Film on board the ship is pricey ---- so take plenty.

I took four different cameras with me - my digital camera, which held about 80 pics, my regular "film" camera with a total of 4 rolls, a camera with black and white film (just one roll), and an underwater camera. I though I had taken alot of pictures but I look at everyone else's and realize I missed ALOT! So definately take more than you think you will use. I think on my next four day cruise I will take about 10 rolls.

For our 7 night, I shot 336 pictures (14 rolls of 24 exp)... I didn't end up with ANY left over, so I probably could have used even more. This is why I've made the switch over to digital for the next cruise.

Hi Ann!!

I agree with all the above. Take a bunch as I know you scrap and I use so many in my books. But I tend to take pictures of everything-the room, the signs etc etc etc. I always think of it as I can't go back and get what I missed!

I am so excited for you! I can't wait to hear about your trip!! I also take an extra fold up suitcase in my luggage. It took hubby a little while to figure that trick out!

Thank you, thank you!! My dh is convinced I've gone over the deep end...I've bought 20 rolls of film and 3 underwater cameras!! But, as someone else said, I can always bring it back home to use...(right, like there will be any extra....)

We took 14 rolls of film on the ship and one underwater camera. We used every bit of it. And wished we had another underwater camera.

I say, just when you think you have enough...buy one more roll and another underwater camera!

Also, if you have kids.....disposable cameras are very inexpensive, and make a great gift for them to take with them. Give your kids a camera. You may...or may not...like the pictures you get from them. (Even my 3 year old enjoys having her own camera and we usually get about half the pictures back that are usable.)

I took 12 rolls of film and one underwater camera, and it was perfect. One trick I learned is to buy some of those colored circle stickers...put a sticker on the first roll of film you use and label it #1, then the second roll you shoot is roll #2, etc. When you go to get your pix developed, you know which is the first roll you shot, so I put a #1 on the outside of the film envelope. This way, I know the order of all my pictures when they come back developed, and don't have to fumble around figuring when I took one...the envelopes are already labeled....have fun!!

I haven't been on the 7 day, but we were gone 9 days on a Land/Sea vacation a couple months ago. Like everyone above has said, I'd DEFINITELY bring more than you realistically think you'd need. We used 12 rolls AND 250 digital pictures on our trip.

And if you don't have a digital camera, but were considering the possibility of getting one sometime in the not to distant future, it would be probably be an ideal time to get one before you go. They're a little more pricey on the upfront end, but a LOT cheaper over the long haul for most people I've talked to. I got one to help build a chronology of our trip so we could look back on EVERYTHING we did years from now. The beauty of digital is you can delete things that don't come out well right there on the spot. You also don't have to pay to print every single picture if you don't want them. You can pick and choose what you want. We hardly ever use our film camera for photos anymore now that we're back.

I LOVE your picture gallery. Looked at and enjoyed them all! We aren't really considering a digital camera at this point, dh isn't into the idea at all.

Jobro2 - Great idea with the film - I usually write the date on each roll w/ a Sharpie marker but I have a feeling I'll be going thru more than one roll a day!

I do have two girls, ages 11 & 9, that have their own cameras. They each have 4 rolls of film to take - hopefully we'll get some cool shots that way too.

I don't generally take too many still pics...

But last year, I shot 17 hours of video!!

I use a digital camcorder, then I can hook it up to my computer and print out stills of virtually any frame! So, from that perspective, I guess I took about 4.5 million pictures! LOL

I basically have our entire cruise on tape... I even have pictures of the dang bathroom.

Pictures of the bathroom are a requirement! It was hard to show people just how spacious everything was and everybody I know who had previously taken cruises with other lines was floored by how big the rooms were and the whole split bath idea. Too bad I couldn't get audio of the toilet flushing. That thing was downright scary.

I usually plan to take two rolls of film per day and then four to six water cameras. Since I book so far in advance, everytime I go to Walmart or Kmart, I will pick a camera up every time, and then I don't have to spend a big wad at one time for disposable cameras. I usually check the expiration date to make sure the camera has a way to go before it expires, and if i have any left over i save them for the next trip, or use at home.
