How many women/men would do this?

I just ordered a new sofa and a big comfy chair with an ottomen. My husband was out of town, so he was not part of the decision making process. My friend couldn't believe I didn't ask or consult my husband. I did mention to him that I was going to look, and if I saw something I liked I would order it. She still thought I was out of my mind to get something without him helping to pick it out. Personally I think he is thrilled that he didn't have to be dragged from store to store.

Would you make a large purchase without your husband or wife? Just curious.

Since you already mentioned it to him and told him if you saw one you liked you would buy it, I don't see a problem with it. I would think if he had a problem with it he would have said something when you mentioned your intents.

Well it seems to me that the decision was allready made so why not?

Im assuming he said " fine, get what you want" I would think he would be thrilled to not have to go :)

My SO would prefer not to be part of the decision process. That drives me batty.

My dh would be thrilled. He hates to shop for clothes, furniture or whatever. Although I do usually try to drag him with me because I like to get his opinion (when its the same as mine :teeth: ).

The last time we shopped for family room furniture - we BOTH had to agree to something.

I would have no problem letting DW make a decision like that without me - she has much more fashion sense than I do.

My part is to say "yeah, that's nice" and figure out how I can carry it into the house.

Uhhh, yeah, I've been known to redecorate the whole house while DH was away on business trips.

He tries never to go away. :teeth:

I knew I couldn't be the only one! The only reason I even told my husband ahead of time was because he called and asked what I had planned for the day. He is a very good sport about anything I do, and always says he trust my judgement.

What a great guy. :)

I bought our DVC points without really consulting first with my husband on how many we were going to buy.... he was ok with it in the end. :)

We are both highly picky when it comes to furniture and decorations. I would never pick out something w/o his seeing it first. He's a Harley riding, sports loving, close decorator, go figure. I have a say in all tv's, speakers and recievers too. I did paint the kitchen once when he was gone, and he likes it, but that's all I've ever done.

Dh and I always consult each other before making big purchases. That said, it sounds like you did tell him and he was okay with it - so that counts as consulting in my book.

I think many partners choose not to consult though. I see people on here "surprising" their dh with a disney vacation. That's a big purchase in my book!

I think a lot depends on how much $$ you have available.

I think DH wouldn't mind as long as I told him I was planning on making a purchase. He is just happy when I decorate something.

I wouldnt because I like opinions. But I know DH wouldnt mind if I did. Like you said, he would be glad he didnt have to deal with looking around.

DH on the other hand wouldnt dare buy something like that without my opinion. ;)

As long as the purchase fits 2 important criteria, DH doesn't care what kind of furniture we get.

I still like to bring him along to help me decide and road test the furniture :)

I know I'd like to be at least consulted before something as large as the purchase of furniture. General rule of thumb for DW and myself -- she at least has to ask me if I hate something before she buys it.

Heck all those kinds of decisions are mine! We talk about any changes we might be making in the house or major purchases, but once the idea has been agred upon I go out and "find" the items. Heck, once when I was ready to buy a new vehicle, I went and shopped, worked out the deal and brought it home for DH to test drive after he had gotten out of work. This keeps these things simple. When it comes time for him to get a new car, once the finances are green lighted, it is up to him what he wants. I just show up to sign the papers (test drive and make comments). If DH picked out the furniture we'd still be decorating in Early american Lawn Furniture (the old webbed kind), stacks of newspaper and milk crates!!!;)

You did fine.

My h didn't care at all, until after I got it. Whatever "it" was.

I once purchased a whole house, while DH was away on duty. He never seemed to mind. :D :D :D
