How many suitcases will I need

We leave tues. morning, there are 7 of us and we are staying a total of 18 days. How many suitcases do you I will need?

We usually go for 14 days and take enough clothing for 5 days and then do laundry while there. There are 5 of us and we usually take 4 big holdalls with us

This is a difficult question to answer without knowing more details.

18 days is a long time. Are you willing to do laundry one or more times during your trip?

Like the previous poster we usually pack enough clothes for about 4-5 days and then do laundry 2x per week. When we do this I use about one suitcase for every two people.

Of course this also depends on the suitcase size and which airline we are flying. When we fly JetBlue or SouthWest where our luggage is included I'm more generous with the packing. If we fly AirTran where we have to pay additional fees to check each bag then I pack more conservatively.

We usually go for 11 days and pack for about half of that. We pick a day and do laundry / pool and such. I really hate taking a lot of luggage but I am a compulsive packer so I already pack too much. I plan for all sorts of disasters . It's a good thing the rest of my family doesn't.

For that long, we wouldn't pack any differently than we would for one week. We wouldn't have enough clothes to not do laundry for 18 days or even 12 days. Number of suitcases is too hard to estimate since different sized suitcases changes it drastically. For my crew of 5, it would take two good-sized suitcases for my family of 5. (Good sized meaning right at the 50lb flight limit or a pound or two less). For a family of 7, I'm assuming some of your kids are older than mine, meaning bigger clothes. (My oldest is in a size 10/12 but my younger two are size 3 and 5 so they could count as one person). So, I'd add a third shared suitcase for your older kids. You could do one for you and DH, one for oldest two kids, and one for the three younger kids. Of course, it depends on your sizes and suitcase sizes. I'm short but DH is tall, so I think we balance each other out to two average height adults who are a healthy weight.

LOL we always take a case each... and sometimes Dh takes an extra in case he buys too much for the weight allowance!

I would pack one for each person! If some of the kids don't need all the room that means extra packing room for you Especially for the souvenirs on the way home. Definately plan on doing laundry
