I am so confused as to how this works. I've already placed our deposit (>$1500) on our Disney Visa. The balance isn't due til May. Is it too late to take advantage of using a DVA?
Its pretty much instantaneous, but I wouldn't wait till the last minute to do it especially if you want to get the bonus from the DVA assuming you qualify for it.
Thanks. I need to go back and read the fine print about the $20 gift card. Do you get that only if your balance accrues over $1k (or a multiple thereof)?
For example - suppose you set aside $1700 in DVA. That entitles you to one $20 card, correct?
If so, suppose you get the $20 gift card and withdraw the whole $1700 to apply to your cruise. If you subsequently put another $300 into DVA, do you qualify for another card? Or must you accrue another $1k balance to qualify? I assume the latter, but I am not positive.

No, it doesn't have to do with the balance but instead how much you spend. I could have $3,000 in there forever and never get a bonus. Now, the instant I spend $3,000 on a vacation, I would get $60 in cards. Early on, I had to request them, but lately, they've been automatic, which was a little annoying when I booked a cruise and then bought WDW tickets a week later. It shipped me two separate cards. I combined them online, but still, that was a little stupid.
Thanks. Have you (or anyone else reading) ever tried using DVA to cover OBB deposits (assuming the ship's satellite internet is up and running)?
It can't be done. Last time I brought along a gift card with $250 loaded on it to book my placeholder. She said she used it. Thank goodness I hung onto it because she didn't actually use it and it was billed to my credit card that was on file as backup for my onboard account.

It's been reported that it can be done if you bring your 16 digit account number with you. The DVA number is run as a gift card. You can always fund your onboard account before you go with money from the DVA, then purchase a Disney gift card in one of the ship's stores and use that for your deposit.
I understand it has to be open 120 days to get the bonus, however-the money doesn't have to be in there the whole time, correct? That seems crazy, but thought I'd ask.
Weird. It wasn't maybe just a one-off error in swiping the gift card? Seems odd that the CM would use it (or at least, try to use it) if it wasn't operationally possible.
The whole thing was crazy. It took a REALLY long time. She ended up having to reboot her computer due to some error and then I never even received the confirmation. I had to call DCL when I got home and they had to find it and give me the number. Something was definitely glitchy. It's a good reminder to not throw away gift cards until you're sure they've been drained!![]()
What ship was this, if I may ask?
