How long did it take you to vote?

Early voting here in Georgia, with the exception of one county, came to an end tonight, well, for many folks in the metro Atlanta area, it still hasn't come to an end yet, even though the lines were closed at 7:00pm. Corey and I did go vote today. We were entered the line at 2:00pm. We finally cast our votes at 7:30pm. Yes, we spent 5-1/2 hours waiting in line to cast our ballots for Obama/Biden.

Personally, I have made a point to vote at every possible opportunity since I turned 18 years old. When in college, I drove home 3-1/2 hours just to vote, turn around, and head back up to school again. I have been ill before with a fever of 102 and pneumonia and pulled my sick behind out of bed to go vote. I just don't see how I can blow off using one of the most important chances that we as citizens have to make sure that it is the people that control our government and not our government controlling us.

My feet are sore. My back is kind of tweaked. I had an asthma attack while we waited in that long line because of the smoke from a mobile BBQ company's smoker. But, I stood there with Corey and we shared a few laughs along the way with the people around us. It was not the way that I would have liked to have spent those 5-1/2 hours of my life, but then again, there are an aweful lot of folks that fought, were injured and/or died for my right to vote, so it's kind of hard for me to not see voting as anything other than a precious necessity.

Now, I realize that many of you have not had the chance to vote yet, but once you do vote on Tuesday, I would love to know how long it took you.

Our country's future is at stake. Your voice should be heard.

Go Vote Tuesday!

We voted early, too (last weekend). It took about an hour.

We voted early on Tuesday. Two and half hours, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm.

Rob, did you go to the Silver St. Library? We went to the Dr. Phillips library. Line was long but relatively fast moving. The poll workers there were FAR nicer and friendlier than at our usual (Stoneybrook West) polling place.

We went to the Ocoee library on Silver Star road.

The poll workers were very nice, but they were also making it very clear that they weren't happy with Governer Crist's decision to extend early voting hours. They were told when they arrived that morning that instead of closing at 6, they'd be closing at seven. They figured they'd be there until after 10pm. It made them all kind of cranky. The young lady who checked my registration said that his decision had turned her 60 hour week into an 80 hour week. They were quite pleasant to the voters, and very helpful, but they weren't thrilled with the extra hours, and it showed. I felt for them.

I voted early. It took about 15 minutes.

I am so totally wiped out today. There is a reason that I rent a scooter at WDW. I wish that I had had one yesterday. I am really paying for that time in line. :headache:

Wow I can't believe how long it takes some of you! It takes me maybe a minute!! There are inly 650 ish residents in my community so it really takes no time at all and if I forget my Id no big deal !

The lines at our "normal" polling place around the corner were INSANE. :scared: I was planning to early vote on Wednesday morning. When I got there the parking lot was completely full, so I figured I would come back a little later. When I came back later it was even worse, and people were parking in the street. I went by a third time and it was just getting worse.

I got on the Dallas County elections website and made a discovery. You can vote at ANY location for early voting! Who knew? So I went to a different location close to where I work and I was in and out in about 15 minutes.

The lines at our assigned polling place were hideous Thursday, and DH said yesterday there were news crews out there gawking at the masses of people. I have no idea how long it would have taken to go through that line. It was out the door, down the steps, down the sidewalk, starting to wrap around the building. I have to wonder why they don't promote the fact that you can go to ANY location? I think that some people won't get to vote because they will give up! The location where I voted is MAYBE 15 minutes away from the super crowded one. Those folks could have driven to the other location, voted, and come back in under an hour.

We had 5 locations to choose from, for early voting, in our county. We chose to go to the one closest to our home. It actually closed earlier than the others and with it being Halloween night, I had hopes that the line would not be so bad. :confused3 I was wrong.

Where we live you do not get to "choose" where to vote. The have each county split into districts (our county has 6, I think) and each district is assigned one place they have to go to vote. The exception is absentee voting which under circumstances can be done by mail.

So, on Tuesday I will drive to the little church where my district is assigned to vote and from the time I leave my house til I vote and get home will take appx 10 mins. Its about a 4 minute drive and I will have to drag the kids in. I have never waited in line at all. Typically no one else is there and I can have my choice of which machine I want and we will get out little "I voted today" stickers and head on out.

My aunt has to drive waaaaay down to the edge of the county and votes in this little building not much bigger than a double outhouse... its funny :). I always ask if she went to the outhouse on election days!

I can't even believe how long some of you wait!!! I am not sure I would be such a great citizen if I had to wait in line more than 5-10 mins.

With a gay marriage ban on the ballot here in the Florida, we'd have waited all day to vote against it, even if it was the only thing on the ballot!

Voted early here in NC last week and waited in line about 20 minutes.

I still haven't decided on who I'm voting for, but I'm getting in line at 7:00 am Tuesday morning, even if just to vote No on 2.

I'm hoping with early voting, the lines won't be as bad on Tuesday.

This is where my aunt votes. 2 workers inside, a small table, a voting machine and 2 ppl allowed in at a time (one to be voting and one to be registering). As predicted, no wait for either of us. I just thought some of you city folk may get a kick out of our high class voting buildings ;)

Beth,

They really need some help with that flag!

Dont you have a hardware store around you that sells brackets? :confused3

And look at the upside, Lucas has plenty of room to do his buisness if you ever do go on a wait!:thumbsup2

We do, but I don't think they care....

I was really sad I missed an awsome photo moment. Right after I took that picture a lovely man in his camo bibs showed up. He was straight out of the hills.... I tried to get his pic as he walked in to vote, but his woman was apparently not voting and kept watching me.....
