Early voting here in Georgia, with the exception of one county, came to an end tonight, well, for many folks in the metro Atlanta area, it still hasn't come to an end yet, even though the lines were closed at 7:00pm. Corey and I did go vote today. We were entered the line at 2:00pm. We finally cast our votes at 7:30pm. Yes, we spent 5-1/2 hours waiting in line to cast our ballots for Obama/Biden.
Personally, I have made a point to vote at every possible opportunity since I turned 18 years old. When in college, I drove home 3-1/2 hours just to vote, turn around, and head back up to school again. I have been ill before with a fever of 102 and pneumonia and pulled my sick behind out of bed to go vote. I just don't see how I can blow off using one of the most important chances that we as citizens have to make sure that it is the people that control our government and not our government controlling us.
My feet are sore. My back is kind of tweaked. I had an asthma attack while we waited in that long line because of the smoke from a mobile BBQ company's smoker. But, I stood there with Corey and we shared a few laughs along the way with the people around us. It was not the way that I would have liked to have spent those 5-1/2 hours of my life, but then again, there are an aweful lot of folks that fought, were injured and/or died for my right to vote, so it's kind of hard for me to not see voting as anything other than a precious necessity.
Now, I realize that many of you have not had the chance to vote yet, but once you do vote on Tuesday, I would love to know how long it took you.
Our country's future is at stake. Your voice should be heard.
