How late do you think a 17 year old boy should be able to stay out?

I agree with mhopkins also. Let him test the waters. When I got my license at 16 we had to have a 'junior license' which meant we had to be off the roads by midnight, so I guess my curfew was midnight, but mostly because my mom didn't want me getting pulled over and my license taken because it was after midnight.

There's 10 years between my older sister and myself and my mom had figured things out by then. I had no curfew when I was that age--as long as I called to report a change of location that was fine with her. She told me later that I was always home by a little after midnight on the weekends because everyone else had a curfew. It was all part of her master plan to not have to enforce a curfew but still have me home at a decent hour! She's a pretty smart cookie.

Don't know if I'll do that with DD though. She's only 13 so it's not an issue yet but she has some friends whose mothers seem pretty lax even at this age as to where they are and what they're doing!

I don't recall having a curfew by the time I was 17 but I am pretty sure unless I was babysitting which sometimes was until way after midnight during weekdays I was normally home around 10 or so..we usually were just hanging out at the dock or something...on weekends I was pretty much on my own, by 17 I was able to get into bars with fake ID (drinking age back then was 16) and I would follow a certain band around to different clubs on weekends with friends of mine and usually stay out until the bar closed down. By 17 I was in college so once I went to college I pretty much had free run of my own times.
