How does everyone get so much time off?!

Oh my gosh I would love that! I'm assuming you've seen his show? Was it amazing?

No, it's not officially open yet. DH already knows there is a Vegas trip in our future though. It's in previews working out the kinks. From what I have seen and heard about it it looks great. Very dark and gothic. Not the Cirque we are used to.

I'm a SAHM so my job is flexible. I can do it anywhere LOL.

DH is military, gets 30 days "paid" a year, though he gets told when he can take his vacation. He is assigned 2 weeks prior to deployment and 2 weeks after deployment, and he deploys for 6-7 months every 10-12 months. I think he is also getting 5 days around the holidays.

He gets it, he just gets told when to use it, but they don't tell you but a few months ahead of time, which makes it hard to plan!

I have 32 paid vacation days, "unlimited" paid sick leave and if an official holiday (that is not traditionally in a weekend, like for example Easter) is during a weekend, I get compensation days for that too.
As a matter of fact, in many companies here, you have to take 2 weeks of vacation in one block during the summer months.

Last year, technically, I could have gone on vacation on paid sick leave, because I was home from the accident; however, I used 2 weeks sick leave, then 2 weeks paid vacation for my trip, then 1 month of sick leave again.

I work in banking and get 17 days of vacation and 10 sick days- and we do get alot of random holidays that other places don't get. You accumulate the sick time, but lose the vacation time if you don't use it. At my job, you can also buy a week of vacation(which I do). Next year I get another week(but I'm still gonna buy a week)!!;) DH works for UPS- he gets 4 weeks of vacation and 10 personal days, I am so jealous of all of his time- LOL I always make him take off when DD is out of school. ;)

DH was supposed to get "paid vacation pay", 2 weeks this year. But it turns out they changed the paid vacation to a whopping 250.00 for the entire week. So we're not taking a vacation. It's a crappy job, but at least it's a job, DH's friend got laid off this morning.

I'm a part time Admin Asst at a church. I've been here 8 years and have 6 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks paid sick/personal. They have always been generous with their time off. When someone is hired they automatically begin with 3 weeks paid vacation. They also give all of us (15 on staff) the week between Christmas and New Years off with pay as a bonus week, doesn't come out of our vacation bank. Ours is also use it or lose it, you can't carry over to the next year.

My DH is in Admin at a boarding school. They are on a year round schedule so he does not have the summer off. He has about 8 weeks paid off a year but they are set by the school calendar. They generally fall during good times though (June, August, December, March). Although honestly if we don't leave the area he tends to go in for a little bit each day during his so called "Vacation" but that is another post.

I work at a university. I get 20 days of vacation a year, plus the week between xmas and new year's, plus 3 personal days, plus 12 sick days. Everything but the xmas week and the personal days can accrue from year to year. I don't get paid a whole lot, but the benefits can't be beat :cool1:

I have 5 weeks paid vacation and 6 flex days (for appointments etc) per year, I have worked for the same company for 16 years. Whether I go away or not each year I take 2 weeks off together, I feel I need this to rejuvenate.

I get 23 days paid vacation. Have been at this job for 15 years and I'll stay as long as they will have me, based soley on the vacation perks. There are times that I think a job change would be nice, but I would be INSANE to leave here. I'm literally working for time off

No set sick time, but I have a laptop that goes with me everywhere, so rarely is a sickness an excuse not to work. I haven't failed to work due to sickness since I've had the thing. I have to force myself, in fact, not to take it on vacations. But I don't.

I've worked for the same company for 12 years and get 4 weeks paid vacation. I usually don't take more than a week at a time, but last year did go to the Orlando area for 2 weeks.

I can do it because I've stayed with the same company for almost 10 years. This year I had 4 weeks vacation, next year I get 5 weeks (I'll be maxed out at that point). My company also has generous benifits, they do this to help attract and keep top employees. In addition to my vacation time, I also get 12 sick days a year, if we don't use them we can bank them. I have 70 days banked, I plan to use them to take a 3 month paid maternity leave if I ever manage to get pregnant.

My DH only gets two weeks a year, but he's only been with his company for 6 years now. I think he gets one more week when he hits 10 years, but I'm not sure about that, I'll have to ask him.

I get 3 weeks a year of vacation time. Ours is a "use it or lose it" system, and I rarely use it all at once (because I just cannot afford to go anywhere for that long), but I could take all 3 weeks together if I wanted to.

I usually just take 1 week at a time.
(one of these years I'm gonna take back-to-back Magic cruises though!!! *SIGH*)

Sounds awesome! I'm making a road trip to Orlando and I was planning on stopping in Vegas to see a friend so if the show is going hopefully I can see it!

I think maybe one of the reasons my mom doesn't have vacation time is because she's fairly new. It sounds like everyone has been with a certain company for years which is really great. But, we move a lot and never know where we're going to be next!

I get 4 weeks vacation but I have never taken more that 6 days- Fri through the next week type thing- at a time. I could realistically take 2 weeks in a row but that would be a burden on the people that cover for me.

My boss takes 2 weeks at Christmas every single year.

DH has 9 years with his company and they don't let employees carry over sick days, so they have to take them or lose them. Add in the fact that he doesn't get overtime pay but he puts in anywhere from 40-70 hours per week and they sometimes give him comp days. That tends to add up and we get to enjoy long vacations because of it, but he's more than earned it. The only problem though is that he gets asked to do little things for his job while on vacation, so the best place we go is on an isolated mountain top in West Virgina where there's no high-speed internet nearby and phone reception is very spotty.

It's just how it works here. I get 130 hours (3.25 weeks) of vacation every year apart from sick leave, personal leave and federal holidays. If my vacation requests are approved, I get the time off. I took over two weeks off for my wedding and honeymoon.

Well, it adds up. I only get 5 days of vacation every six months (tomorrow, actually), but they don't away for 18 months. Meanwhile, DH gets 5 weeks vacation per year. I hate him.

I get 4 weeks of paid vacation. I had to work there a LONG time to get that... and I can only take a week at a time. I can't even break it down to single day usage.
