How does DVC track points?

We have purchased multiple contracts, all at BCV and all have the same UY. Since I am never asked when making reservations, which contract points I wish to use, how does the system select the contract to deduct the points from?

If I was to sell one of the contracts, after using some points and have banked the balance, how does one designate points available for the contract being sold?

My example would be contract 1 has 50 points, contract 2 has 75 points and contract 3 has 100 points totaling 225 points. If I use 100 points and still have 125 (or have banked the125) points, and now I wish to sell the either the 100 or 75 point contract, can I designate the remaining points to the remaining two contracts?

I'm not sure how Disney decides when all contract are with the same resort. We have three contracts also . . . two at BWV and one at SSR; all are in the same UY. I usually indicate if I want to use BWV or SSR points but beyond that I don't know which BWV contract they take it from. The DVC website does indicate each of your contracts and exactly how many points have been used and those that are left. That way you can see how many points each contract has left in it. There you go . . .clear as mud right?

You can go over to the DVC Member website and find out exactly how they allocated your points. Look under Your Points and check each contract to see how they used the points for your vacations.

We have multiple contracts all at OKW. I'm uncertain how the DVC computer decides which contract(s) points for a specific reservation are taken from...I can't think of a reason why I would care, other than when preparing to sell one of them. In our case we have no immediate or long term plans of selling any of our contracts.

If you were to sell one of your contracts you could either call MS to get the information you need, you could access the DVC Members only web site and do the research yourself or you could ask MS to send you a printout of your point usage. Each of these methods has their advantage and disadvantage. My first choice would be to call MS and ask for the information, second choice would be to access the web site then lastly I'd ask for a print out. Deciphering a print out gets exponentially more difficult the more contracts you have and the longer you have been a member.

If you have a particular contract you would like to sell and the point status is not what you would like you can ask that they reallocate the points to get the results you need. For example if the contract you'd like to sell has points being used for a future reservation that you do not want canceled they would move points from one of your other contracts to the reservation needing the points and replace the points into the contract you intend to sell.

There is no need to cancel and rebook a reservation when reallocating points from one contract the another so long as the points are coming from the same resort and the same membership.

You'll get differing opinions but I would think the selling price of a stripped contract would net you close to the same selling price as a loaded contract, especially when selling BCV. If we ever need to sell any of our OKW contracts we'll sell them stripped.

Good luck.

In this case, since all of your points are in the same master contract, all at the same resort and all with the same Use Year, it doesn't really matter which contract they come from - except in the situation you describe.

I'd expect that points would be used from your account in the order in which they were purchased - points would be taken from your master contract until that is exhausted, then the second contract followed by the last. If you should ever have plans to sell one of the three, I'd suggest that you specify to MS which contract you want the points taken from whenever you make a reservation so they can do that to your liking.

In addition to the listing on the member's site, you can also request a printed accounting- each contract will be listed separately showing the detail how the points were used for every reservation made.

I have 3 contracts at SSR and for 2007 they are using the newer contract 1st then working there way back to the oldest one.
