Okay so I wasn't trying to hide it. Lunch at Le Cellier was DA BOMB!!! Sorry to spoil the surprise.
I booked this trip on November 26 of 2008. So with the trip beginning on February 21, I knew I was well into my (then) 180 window. I usually got what I wanted, but I certainly didn't get any PRIMO ressies. (For example, I couldn't get into Crystal Palace before rope drop). I also was unable to get Le Cellier for dinner, which is what we originally wanted. I now know from reading the boards so much that I SHOULD have tried to book this ressie for a party of 3 to up my chance of getting dinner (Le Cellier has very few 2 people tables, and they won't put a party of 2 at a 4+ seater). Regardless, I settled with an 11:40am ADR for lunch.
We arrived about 10 minutes before our ressie. Even though no one was in the lobby, they had us wait for about 10 minutes to get our table. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant. Our table was essentially in a little nook that had our table between two four seat tables. Yes, we were inches away from other people's table on either side. In the "real world" this wouldn't be so great for a restaurant experience. But for Disney, I sort of expect it being a party of 2 (as I've discussed before), and less tables = less reservations. Bottom line: I was excited just to be a Le Cellier, close to strangers or not.
Our waitress Meaghan (from British Columbia) came immediately to greet us. She was our age, and she was so cool and nice. She was a fantastic waiter. We never felt neglected, and she always refilled our drinks and cleared our plates.
First she brought out our bread. I know pictures of this bread are all over the DIS but why not one more? Did you know that each of these breads represent a different geographical area of Canada? She explained to us what each bread represented. If you don't know, leftmost stick is a "plain" bread (I don't remember the details of any of these), middle is pretzel bread (and yes this has salt on it and it ROCKS), and rightmost is a "multi-grain" bread.
Note: The lighting in here is funky, so there aren't any close-ups. I tried hard, but they were all blurry. The ones I have though, turned out nice.
This is an amazing bread basket. All of the rumors are true, the pretzel bread is delicious. And I don't even like soft pretzels. I still loved this. We split all 3 and devoured them.
For fun, here's the butter-balls. I commented that they looked like the Epcot Ball (Spaceship Earth), and Meaghan laughed and said she never heard that. Really? They look JUST like the Epcot ball, like golf balls?
First came appetizers. Brittany ordered the onion soup. Allears.net: Three Onion Soup - garnished with a cheese crouton.
Now, I don't eat onion soup (or the French variety for that matter), so I didn't try this. Brittany, however, loved it. She said that it didn't taste like French onion soup, but had a "different" sort of flavor. I think I recall her saying it had a "smokey" taste? She ate the whole bowl.
I ordered the tomato stack. Allears.net: Tomato Stack - with Carmelized Onions, Cucumbers, Crumbled Blue Cheese, and Yuzu Vinaigrette.
OH. EM. GEE. You would not think that this would be AMAZING but it is. The bottom tomato is about an inch thick (it's HUGE). Then the top is like a "salad" which is diced up with all the veggies. With the blue cheese and vinaigrette, this is so flavorful! It just has an amazing, savory flavor mixed with the freshness of the veggies and the zing of the cheese. If this is at all appealing to you, order this! You will not be disappointed.
For an entree, Brittany picked the Caesar salad. Now, you may think she's crazy for doing so with all the yummy options. Brittany, however, wasn't in the mood for much food. Hence, the salad. Allears.net: Caesar Salad with Chicken - Romaine lettuce, parmesan, sourdough croutons and a creamy Caesar dressing.
Read: This was the BEST Caesar salad she has ever had! I tried this and I have to agree. Chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The dressing was yummy. And the kicker was the croutons. So good!
I ordered the Chicken sandwich (I don't eat red meat so sorry there's not review of any steak at the steakhouse!). Allears.net: Maple Barbecued Grilled Chicken Sandwich- with Black Diamond Cheddar and pancetta (mine was without pancetta).
There were a couple sides you could choose from, but I ordered the fries. Okay, this sandwich was so good! The chicken was grilled and had a BBQ sauce on it. However, it wasn't DRIPPING in sauce. It was just enough to add a unique BBQ flavor (this was better BBQ sauce than I've ever had). The chicken was tender, juicy, and so good with the cheddar cheese. Trust me, this cheese was amazing. Even the bread on this sandwich was lightly toasted to bring the whole thing together. Sure it was one of those sandwiches that was bigger than your head, but it didn't "fall apart" on me. I LOVED this sandwich. And the dill pickle was a bonus for me. I love pickles and Brittany and I split this.
Right before dessert, Brittany and I ordered a glass of ice wine to share. Yes, it was $22 a glass (the most expensive wine of the four to choose from, the others being about $17 or so a glass). And this glass is TINY. But that's the whole point of ice wine is that it's precious and EXPENSIVE, but so good.
The label: Meaghan called it Inniskillin (that's also what it said on my receipt).
Glass:
This wine is GOOD. It's very smooth and VERY sweet so it just goes down so well. PERFECT with dessert (or for dessert!). If you haven't tried ice wine, DO IT! (If you're into that kind of stuff).
For actual dessert, Brittany ordered (big surprise) the chocolate cake. Allears.net: Chocolate on Chocolate Whiskey Cake - finished with Honey-Thyme Anglaise and a Chocolate-Vanilla Walnut Sauce.
Once again, this is the "Celebration" dessert so it had a Mickey bonus. Be careful about those Mickey candies. Our waitress told us that they are edible but ROCK HARD. She said you might break a tooth. She was right. I don't know why they put them on there (other than decoration) but it's too hard to chew and doesn't have enough flavor to treat it like hard candy. Just word to the wise if your waitress didn't get the memo.

I tried this, and it was very rich and chocolatey, with a hint of "other" flavor which I am assuming is the whiskey and such. It was nice and moist. All around a great chocolate cake.
I ordered the S'mores. This is not on Allears (not sure why not), but this is ice cream sandwhiched between two graham cracker "cookie" type things. The "cookies" have a chocolate layer and a toasted marshmellow top. Then, on a big stick, is a sprinkle covered duo of marshmellows (not toasted or anything).
Sorry for poor pic quality.
I wasn't in the mood for any other dessert, so I tried this one, because it is a small portion and looked fun on the DIS boards (I was STUFFED after the app & entree). I really liked this. The "cookie" has a chocolate layer which is sort of like ganache and it is so good. This is a unique, fun, and yummy dessert.
Overall, Le Cellier was my favorite meal at Walt Disney World this time around. One reason was because of the amazing food. I also loved the atmosphere and the service. Our waiter was friendly, and the hostesses chatted us up when we arrived, talking about Canada, etc. I loved eating here so much, that I bought a moose pen at the pavillion outside just to remember how much I love Canada at WDW. Seriously, this pavillion is awesome. I LOVE the waterfall and scenery going down to the 360 movie. I love the ICE wine. I love the plaid. I love Canada, eh!
All that is said on the DIS is true. Le Cellier rocks. I can't wait to go back to WDW just to try this for dinner. Heck, I probably will try to fit it in more than once!
