So apparently this was our super Wolfgang day! I wanted to try WPE so badly, but I also had a ressie for Wolfgang Puck Cafe! So... why not? We didn't go to a park this day, so it was easy to go back and forth from Port Orleans FQ to DTD (via the boats). I hadn't read much of anything about this restaurant (and apparently AllEars thinks it's the devil's restaurant), but I wanted to give it a try anyways.
Our reservation was at 8:00PM. We went over there and there was a huge line at the podium outside the door. Luckily, we realized quickly that we could breeze past the podium and go straight inside. They gave us a buzzer, and we waited outside listening to some great street performers doing "Under the Sea." I love the look and feel of DTD (especially the West Side). We were seated in under 10 minutes.
Our waiter was a cutie named Matthew. He looked about 16, but he was very helpful explaining what was on the meal plan. He told us we couldn't get sushi fans as an appetizer, but I'm pretty sure that meant we could get it as an entree. But we aren't sushi so it didn't matter.
We noticed on the back of our reservation card, there was a WG receipt. I thought this was a nice touch.
We ordered a cherry Coke and Sprite. Why not take a picture of them? (We were really excited!

)
Matthew brought us out some bread before our meal. This was a flatbread with a yummy herb-type stuff on it. There was also some sourdough (I'm assuming) bread that was a very good texture. This was one of our favorite bread baskets (with the winner being... I won't give it away, eh!).
For apps, Brittany ordered the spring rolls. According to AllEars.net these are: Asian Style Vegetable Spring Rolls - Plum and Japanese mustard dipping sauces.
These were light, crispy, and but didn't have a strong flavor. Brittany thought they were pretty good. I liked the flavor, definitely more fresh tasting that most spring rolls. The green stuff in the middle of the plate (cucumbers?) were AWESOME. We gobbled those up.
I ordered the tortilla soup. According to Allears.net: Tortilla Soup - with goat cheese and tortilla chips.
I LOVE tortilla soup, but sometimes you never know what you're going to get. I mean, it changes from restaurant to restaurant it seems. This one was so yummy! It has a lot of beans in it and is much more hearty than I'm used to. It was vegetarian, but almost had a chili type consistency with all the beans and stuff. With a little goat cheese, soup, and tortilla strip with each bite, this was eaten quickly by both of us!
For entrees, Brittany ordered the salmon. According to Allears.net: Chilean Salmon - Center cut filet of salmon, pan roasted with saffron whipped potatoes, asparagus and basil buter sauce.
I didn't try this, because I don't like salmon. But Brittany LOVED this. She thought it was funny that her potatoes were green, but according to her they were awesome.
I ordered the organic half chicken. Allears.net: Organic Half Chicken - Garlic mashed potatoes with lemon-rosemary sauce
From the other side:
Matthew our waiter told me that the chicken took an extra 15 minutes, so he made sure that would be okay. It didn't bother me or Brittany. Both of our meals came out at the same time, both were hot. I didn't even notice any "extra" time. I didn't feel like I was waiting for the entree, but if you're in hurry I suppose you shouldn't get it.
For someone who eats a lot of chicken, this was a standout to me. It was tender, juicy, and had a very good flavor. I also liked the potatoes (which I usually don't like mashed potatoes). I also ate every one of those veggies on the plate. They had a great steamed taste. Everything was just so fresh and yummy. As far as that twig thing in the middle, I just took it out.
And finally, DESSERT!
Brittany ordered a dark chocolate cake (I think it might have been of the flourless variety), which is not listed on allears.net.
I was really into the close-ups this first day, lol!
This was VERY rich and chocolaty. I couldn't really tell that it was "dark" chocolate. Basically it was a very dense, chocolate cake. Brittany loved the whipped cream, since it didn't taste like it came from a can.
I ordered the key lime pie. All ears: Florida Key Lime Pie - Swiss meringue with a buttery graham cracker crust.
O M G, people! If you love Key Lime Pie, this was DA BOMB! This was one of my favorite desserts (if not my favorite looking back) of the whole trip. This had a perfect tartness (I like my key lime pies tart). The meringue top was awesome. The sauces on the side added nice flavor (it was raspberry and some orangy-citricy stuff). I was so close to finishing this but I was so stuffed I couldn't. I barely let Brittany have any! SO FREAKIN' GOOD!
Well, there you have it. End of day 1 of my Disney trip and end of Wolfgang Puck mania!
