Moving right along, I'll begin this installment with our first breakfast at our resort. If you're staying at the POFQ or are curious, we did order some variety (though I mainly ordered Mickey waffles, Brittany ordered different stuff) of offerings so it's a good mix. We ate breakfast here most days, so I'll add them in with other major meals. I won't waste y'alls precious time with just Sassagoula updates! (Even though we started a joke where we would be like, "Ready for Sassagoula?" And the other would say, "Sassagoula me baby!" We're weird)
Since Hollywood Studios is, IMHO, the weakest when it comes to food choices, we decided to eat breakfast at our resort.
Here's a picture of the sign outside the restaurant in case you're curious about the hours of Sassagoula and other offerings:
Once again, Brittany and I made sure we got our two drinks with breakfast, even if it was too much. One nice thing about this QS place (I'm not sure about other resorts but I'm sure they're similar) is that you can have any two bottled beverages in the fridges. So basically you can have a full size OJ and a water bottle to take to parks. Or you can get a Fuze and a apple juice. I think it's a nice deal.
Here's Brittany's plate. She ordered the French Toast platter, which consisted of one slice of french toast, eggs, and bacon. She got an apple juice and a milk to drink.
I ordered Mickey waffle (it's the biggie size variety) with fruit. I got a bottled water and an OJ.
We were always happy with our breakfast's here. Let me say though, this place was PACKED every morning. I mean, couldn't find a table packed. We even made it for rope drop so it was pretty early too. I don't know why it was so busy, I think Mardi Gras had something to do with it. We were happy when we were able to get a seat outside, because it wasn't as noisy as it was inside.
This meal was nice. The french toast is underwhelming (a little overdone, and crunchy on the crust. Very thin too). The eggs are good (one of the few places I could eat the eggs), and Brittany loved the bacon. The Mickey waffle is perfect as always. The fruit on top is basically hot strawberries, which I liked. I wouldn't have gotten it if it was like a fruit topping (like pie filling) that can come on most waffles with fruit.
Basically it was a good start to our Hollywood Studios day.
After riding TSM for the first time (it was AWESOME) and several other adventures, we headed over to the Hollywood Brown Derby for our 11:40am lunch reservation. *Note: See the perfect, clear sky? Yeah, that was our weather all 8 days! It never rained a drop. PERFECTION.
Our waitress Christena (yes, that's how it's spelled) sat us in a lovely booth which was a surprise, because they never sit two people in a booth at WDW. We usually get crammed in some little space or sat inches away from a four seater in a tiny space they found. When we were seated, we noticed that the place was sort of empty, but started to fill up as our lunch progressed.
Brittany ordered a Sprite and I got *shocker* Cherry Coke. If you like Cherry Coke (which I only really drink when at Disney), this was the best I had. Plus I love when they put cherries on the top. Here's a pic. Why not?
Shortly after that we got our bread.
These were hot and yummy. They had a nice crispy outside.
For apps, Brittany ordered a Pumpkin bisque that is seasonal and is not on allears.net. Let me say that this is by far my worst pic, because the lighting in here is awful for foodie shots. I tried really hard to get a non-blurry one but after 5 or 6 tries Brittany was like, "Let me eat it already!"
Brittany LOVED this. I didn't try it, because I don't like pumpkin (or many bisques in general). She got all the way to the bottom of the bowl.
Though she loves her soup, she still wished she ordered MY app...
The Coconut fried shrimp! On allears.net: Coconut Fried Shrimp with Asian pear-chili sambal and citrus soy dipping sauce.
The only thing not to like about this dish is that they only give you two! Seriously, these are fantastic shrimp. I don't even like coconut shrimp usually. But this is a perfect hint of sweet coconut with a tender shrimp inside. Brittany loved her one bite I gave her! My shrimps I say!
Our entrees came around next. Brittany ordered the BBQ chicken. Allears.net: Honey Barbecue Glazed Breast of Chicken with Romaine Hearts tossed in Green Goddess Dressing, and peppered citrus.
Side-note: On our receipt this says: BBQ Chicken Goddess. YUM!
This was okay. I had a bite, and thought the chicken was a little weird tasting. Like the texture was a little mushy if that makes sense. All the "stuff" around it is very good though.
I ordered the famous cobb salad, sans bacon. Allears.net: Our Famous Brown Derby Cobb Salad with finely chopped greens, turkey breast, egg, bacon (mine had no bacon), tomatoes, crumbled bleu cheese, avocado, chives and Cobb dressing
I love when they come over and mix it up for you. I don't know why this is so awesome, but it just is! All the ingredients are so finely chopped that every bite is a plethora of yumminess on your tongue. I forgot that I don't like avocado when I got a rather large bit of it in one bite. It didn't ruin it for me. Next time I might try it without it though. (Our waitress said they can take anything out of the salad).
Dessert... Usually I love dessert but this one was... meh. I know, tragic right?
Brittany was debating between the chocolate cake, creme brulee and this banana dessert. Our waitress said that the banana dessert was her favorite so Brittany ordered. Let me just say, since I'm on a soapbox here anyway, that I don't understand people who ask waiters for their opinion on what food is best. I mean, people have different tastes so why are you going to trust some stranger's idea of what is good? I actually trust it more when they say, "It's our most popular dish" than when someone says, "It's MY favorite dish." I know what I like, so I I decide based on that and my experience. Despite wanting chocolate, she ordered this banana dessert because Christena LOVES it.
Allears.net: Banana White Chocolate Toffee Tower on cocoa almond cookie and bananas "foster"
I didn't get this dessert. The best parts (according to Brittany and me) is the almond cookie thing sticking out of the top and the chocolate cookie crust at the bottom. The "filling" in the middle (the top layer is whipped cream) tastes like pure banana a la "Runts," not-real-banana-just-banana-flavor flavor. Not good. The sauce in the bottom is supposed to be the "foster" part but it tasted like pure rum.

I don't get it. Overall I give this dessert a score of meh.
My dessert went slightly, but not much, better.
I ordered the Grapefruit cake. Allears.net: Grapefruit Cake - A Brown Derby Original! Light Layers of Yellow Cake with fresh Grapefruit Cream Cheese Icing
Now, the moment I made the Brown Derby ressie, my mom raved on and on about this cake. She LOVES it. (She also likes grapefruit, this should have clued me in). Since it was an original and it's famous, yadda yadda, I tried this. Let me say, unless you like the bitterness that is grapefruit taste, don't order this. I don't get it. I wanted a light sweetness mixed with the grapefruit taste. The cake was even a little dry. I am, however, glad that I tried this once, and now never need to order it again!
Though you may not know it from what I just said about our desserts, I LOVED the Brown Derby. I love the atmosphere. It's quiet. It's a gem that is the funk pool of Hollywood Studios food. I feel as though our strange dessert choices were our own fault. We wanted to branch out. You live, you learn.
For the budget folks, our meal was $83.69 before tip.
