How Do You Make Pancakes?

I usually use a "just add water" mix. Most egg and oil types have a funny taste to them. I bought a no-name store brand by accident that had to add the ingredients to, and I didn't use oil and they tasted pretty good, so maybe it's the oil that makes them funky.

I find that making big pancakes (8" diameter) and using crisco to coat the griddle or pan make them "restaurant perfect!"

I'm going to make some now, from my old secret recipe - but I'll share. ;)

Store brand complete. Add water, mix and pour. ;) :teeth:

Anyone here, do it the old-fashioned way? Does it really taste better? :)

My DH makes pancakes, from scratch, every Sunday morning. We always tell him they're wonderful. ;)

It sounds like they're less than wonderful, but not bad enough to make you do the cooking!

Walmart brand pancake mix, (Has to be walmart brand, nothing tastes better), water, stir.
I CAN make them from scratch, but I really don't want to if I don't have to.

I'll remember that, thanks. I usually use butter or oil to coat the pan.

I do...but I'm not above making them with Bisquick either. Thing is, it takes just as long to do the "old fashioned" way and this way I know exactly what is going into them.

I am the 'breakfast guy' at home, if breakfast is to be made. I have done the scratch method or Aunt Jemima Buttermilk, prefer the AJ one, they come out great, light, airy. The scratch are good too, but the box seems just as good.

I agree, that mix is good. My father makes pancakes on a griddle on the barbeque. I don't know how he does it, but we spent the weekend w/my parents in the hamptons and he made blueberry, choc chip and regular pancakes on the bbq - comes out great!!

Strictly scratch. I have a buttermilk pancake recipe that has ruined us for anything else. They're really good! (It's really not that much more effort than a lot of the boxed mixes.)

I make mine from scratch with a combination of oats and whole wheat pastry flour rather than white flour. I like to make them myself so that they will be whole grain and so that there won't be any hydrogenated oils.

Personally, I'm more of a french toast kinda guy. I do however make pancakes on occasion. I find that the Ms. Buttersworth is the best instant imo. I don't quite know why but when it's with that and some of the Carey's syrup in the glass bottle, gives my french toast a run for it's money. I will however keep that recipe in mind because I've always wanted to make it for real at least once.

From scratch--whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, milk, oil---plus nutmeg and vanilla (could be missing an essential ingrediant, list isn't in front of me).

Does it taste better--I think so--hubby would prefer it to not be so "wheaty"...but it is less expensive. Hubby doesn't like the just add water mixes--so paying extra to just mix the basic dry ingrediants for me isn't much fun.

When we go camping (hardly ever)--we get the mix in the yellow plastic bottle that is just add water :) (I forget the brand)

Send him up here - wonderful or not, if he's cooking, I'm eating. :)

We actually prefer the just add water mixes. Very convenient and easy. They make great waffles, too. Really like the Aunt Jemima mix best.

Yes and yes!

Here's the basic recipe -- double, triple, etc., according to how many people you want to feed:

1 egg
3/4 c. milk
1 T baking powder
1 cup flour
2 T vegetable oil
1 T sugar
dash of salt
Very similar to this and made them this am.
2 eggs
1 cup each milk and flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp oil
3 tbsp syrup
1 tsp salt

My kids love them (more than mix) and sometimes I will mash a banana and throw it in. Yum! Buttermilk pancakes are the bomb, but I never have buttermilk.

The best mix I have ever had was Krusteaz, just add water.

I know this might shock you all but I am not the domestic goddess I pretend to be!!

We make Club Soda Pancakes and Waffles. The club soda makes them especially tender and light:

2 cups Bisquick® Baking Mix
1 1/3 cup club soda
1 egg -- Lightly Beaten
3 tablespoons oil

Mix and pour on griddle or waffle iron.

Sometime we add Quaker granola and crushed pecans or chocolate chips.

Yummy!

Thanks for the recipe everyone, I was going to ask about this last week, but as usual, I forgot, and someone beat me to it!
