How do you know if it is a plexiglass verandah?

I've seen some posts about not getting a "navigator's verandah" and to make sure we have a plexiglass verandah, but how do I determine what kind of verandah a particular stateroom has!

TIA!

Look at the stateroom section of this forum. They have a description of most of the staterooms that include this detail.

Just about all of cats 4,5,6 have plexiglass veranda, with the exception with the VERY aft ones. With cats 5 and 6 those aft (more towards the back) of the cat 7's have the solid verandas. Of the cat 4's, there is only 6 of those, the three on each side forward of the 4 cat 3 suites in the back.

There are basically 4 "types" of verandah's that people discuss here.

1. Plexiglass verandahs
2. Solid Wall verandahs
3. Navigator verandahs
4. "Secret" verandahs

Easiest way to tell what you will get is to look at a deck plan. Any cabin with a solid wall verandah will have an asterik * on the deck plan. Navigator verandah's are Cat 7A's. The solid wall verandahs are all aft of the NV cabins.

1. Plexiglass verandahs are verandahs that are clear so you can see out when you are sitting down. In the bottom pic you can what a clear plexiglass verandah looks like from the outside. I am sure someone will post a pic from the inside. These are all forward of the Navigator verandahs.

2. Solid wall verandahs are verandahs that are solid metal so you can't see through them when sitting down. On the Magic and Wonder they are aft of the Navigator Verandahs and are solid due to the structure of the ship. These are not bad cabins, but some prefer to see out while sitting down. The up side to the solid wall verandahs is that some are deeper and give you more verandah space than the plexiglass ones. Just by looking at a deck plan you can see which ones are deeper. Here is a pic of a solid wall verandah from one of our cruises. These are listed as Cat 6A cabins.

3. Navigator verandahs are a type of verandah that has the verandah area enclosed and decorated with nautical touches...they have a bench and nautical dials, etc. These verandahs have one large open porthole so you can stand up and actually look out the opening and feel the weather outside. The Wonder has an oval opening and the Magic has a round opening. In the picture below you can see the oval opening for the Navigator verandahs.

4. Secret verandah cabins are cabins that were originally cat 5's and 6's but due to a slight obstruction in the upper corner of the verandah opening have been reclassified as Cat 7A's. They have a plexi verandah and are a good deal as they are really an open verandah with a slight obstruction in the corner. Here is a pic from the outside so you can see the corner obstruction.

You can see that Deck 7 (one deck down from the top of the pic) has more of an obstruction angle but the verandah has more of it exposed. On Deck 6 you can see there is less of an obstruction angle but more of the verandah is covered. We have stayed in both and either is a great cabin IMO. paying for a Cat 7A but getting what was once a Cat 5 on Deck 7 and a Cat 6 on Deck 6. There are 4 secret verandah cabins....6134, 6634, 7120, 7620.

Here is a link to the Magic and Wonder deck plans.

I did not post anything about the Dream or Fantasy as we will know for sure what is going with those verandahs when they start to sail.

Hope that helped a bit and hope I didn't confuse more than help!!!

The Disney Dream and Fantasy will not have a solid whitewall verandah. :goodvibes

I just wanted to say thank you for the detailed answers. I am trying to decide on a room with a verandah and I was confused about the plexiglass/solid wall.

Thank you!

This is not correct. All Category 6A and 6B Staterooms have a solid whitewall verandah on the Dream and Fantasy.
