How do we think Saturday, Jan 10 will be crowdwise?

My good friends are planning to take their kids ages 8 and 10 for the very first time this date. I will likely go with them with my 10- year-old. We will rope drop and plan to stay all day. We’re getting LL and have park hoppers (starting in DL).

I’m thinking it should be a pretty good day with the holidays over and nothing new happening yet. Only the two highest Magic Keys are open (Inspire and Believe) and one-park, one-day tickets are pretty high ($184 compared to $104 tickets offered mid-week all month).

Is there anything I’m missing or should this day be decent?

MK have consistently been available which makes me think it shouldn't be bad. The only other thing I have is that the out of state Costco tickets begin on Jan 8.

Also it is the first Saturday that Believe keys can be back in the park since the holidays which is probably why keys are showing only DCA for reservation availability. I still think it will be a pretty good day since it is in between event periods for the parks.

Well, we’re headed to the parks tomorrow. I really hope it’s not completely crazy. I just want my friends to have a good first Disney experience! We are planning to rope drop, so that should help at least!

Yesterday was very nice. It was busy but much more calm than it had been for the holidays. Fewer internationals, large parties, strollers and ECVs.

The lines to get into the park will be long in the morning. All of the California 3-Day ticket holders need to show ID and take a picture which really slows things down. It is a different vibe in the parks with Californian 3-Day ticket holders. They didn't make a cross country trip and spend a fortune for a once in a lifetime vacation. It feels much more relaxed.

Report: Our day turned out great! We pulled up the parking structure at exactly 7am and were DL at 7:45. The morning was really nice, quiet low crowds. In fact, it was not really that crowded at all until around 2/3pm when DL suddenly began to feel very crowded.

I don’t know what the morning was like at DCA but when we park hopped at 4pm the LL availability was nearly gone for almost all rides. By 5:30pm the only LL left was for Ariel. We had hoped to ride a few things over there by grabbing later times and modifying them earlier but it was extremely difficult due to them being sold out. We only rode Webslingers over there and ate dinner, the hopped back to DL.

At DL the LL availability also ran out much more quickly than I’m used to seeing. Luckily since we had arrived for rope drop, we were able to ride everything we wanted to using standby and LL, heavily modifying the LL return times. The longest line we waited in was RotR, which was consistently long most of the day. We hopped in the line when it said 60 minutes and we were off the ride right about the 60 minute mark.

It was interesting to see the surge of people showing up later in the day. This had to be Magic Key holders. It was also strange to see the LL inventory run out so quickly, especially at DCA but also at DL. It makes me thing a very high proportion of guests were using LL that day. In DCA, it doesn’t help that Grizzly and Incredicoaster are down for refurb.

All in all we had a great day! My friends enjoyed a lot of good food and the kids loved Disneyland. We left at 9pm because we were all exhausted but we got on these rides, in this order:

Matterhorn (5-minute standby wait)
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (standby, walk on)
Pirates (5-minute standby wait)
Indiana Jones (LL)
Smugglers Run (LL)
Rise of the Resistance (60-minute standby wait)
Big Thunder Mountain (LL)
Star Tours (LL)
Buzz Lightyear (LL)
Space Mountain (LL)
HMH (LL)
Webslingers (LL)
Small World (LL)
Autopia (LL)
Big Thunder (using MEP)

We were in the parks Tuesday through Friday. Had nice mornings for the first couple of hours, but then it was crazy packed after.

Didn’t spend much time in California Adventure at all. But also noticed very little lightning lane availability. Soarin sold out very early each day. I haven’t figured that one out yet.

Glad to hear everything worked out well. We were also there yesterday. We wanted to get our steps in and it is easier to do during the non holiday season. We thought it was very pleasant with respect to crowds and ease of getting around. We saw that the wait times on rides was pretty bad. We stayed until the evening and left before fireworks. I heard there were issues with the M&F parking structure closing and the trams back to M&F not working. Did you encounter any of that?

Which ride did you get your MEP from?

Glad to hear you had a wonderful day!

It was Big Thunder, which broke down right after it opened for the day and remained down for several hours. As it turned out, Big Thunder ended up being one of the kids’ favorite rides. We rode it with a LL during the day and then used the MEP to ride it at night as our last ride of the day. It was perfect.

No but my friend came later in the afternoon and was caught up in that mess. It took her almost two hours to park and get into DL 🙈.
