How difficult is it to use DVC points to stay at Grand Floridian?

In answer to you question. How you use your point is your decision - I have used mine at Grand Californian and felt it was well worth what we "paid."

We have booked WDW resorts in the past with absolutely no problem. I would only forsee a problem if you were going say at Christmas or Easter. If that were the case, I would suggest booking as close to the 11 month mark as possible.

Just be aware that once you join DVC and stay in the various properties, you may change your mind about how you will use your points. We purchased with the idea of doing GF every once in awhile. We have been members for 5 years and have yet to stay anywhere but our home resort! We just couldn't imagine staying anywhere else once we had a taste of a 2 bedroom villa. We did stay at AKL one night this trip, but on a cash ressie. It was a nice experience, and wonderful amenities and embiance, but I just love OKW too much to spend a whole trip in one room. I think the best of both worlds is doing a night or two in one of the hotels at the begining of the trip. I makes you appreciate the room in the villas!

Here's another vote for using points at other than DVC properties. In addition to the fact that I'm a Disney lover, I bought because I like the flexibility of being able to use points at hotels all over the country, and even exchanges to more exotic locations. Even if it's an "expensive" (compared to using points) way to do it, it's not money out of my pocket - it's already paid for. I also like the the convenience of going through one reservation apparatus, having a variety of high-end properties to choose from, and letting Member Services do the reservation work for me.

I agree totally on that point. Being able to use points outside of WDW is terrific. I hope they continue to add choices to the Concierge Collection.

I guess in some folks minds I also "waste" points because I really don't worry about the weekends when I book.

Ah! I say use your points however best pleases you. I certainly do. In fact I made a reservation a couple of weeks ago for a one night stay at the Grand Floridian after our DVC Cruise in April for which I also used points. Gosh....if I looked at DVC straightly from an economic point of view then I would be telling everyone to use their points strictly at OKW because I honestly think it is the best value for your points!
