How Did We Eat So Much?! Lots of Pics + DxDDP + DCL! *UPDATES 7/12*

:thumbsup2
Follwing along! You and your DD remind me of me and my DD and have many of the same tastes...loving your reviews, especially the pictures. We want to try HBD and GG so thanks for posting!

Love your review of GG! We chose GG as our Candlelight Processional Package dinner. We've never been to GG and were excited to try a new character dinner. Your review made me even more excited! :)

Glad you guys had fun!

Ok, GG sounds great. Not sure Maddie would eat anything on the kids plate though. I wonder if they'd just let her eat off the adult plate??

Hmmm. I do not have room for this meal in May! Darn it!

Thanks for following along! And thanks for the nice words - I hope you get to try both HBD and GG soon; we enjoyed both of them so much!!!

Oh, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!! It really was the most fun way to spend an evening - I wish we were back there right now! :goodvibes

Maddie could eat from both platters - as can you. She would be set. I'm going to post a lot more pics and info about the characters in the TR in just a second. You may have to change some ADRs around..... :rolleyes1

Sounds like GG was an excellent meal!! I wish they offered a breakfast or lunch though as we are usually devoted to our Signature Dinners!

Yeah, I can totally understand that! I think it is because of booking this and CM for dinner that we needed to add two signature lunches to use up credits. We had so dang much fun here together though - totally worth it. :thumbsup2

What a nice review of the GG. I haven't eaten there but reading your review has me wanting to try next time :)

Great reviews! I am joining along, can't wait to read more! Thanks for sharing!
Welcome!!! Thanks so much for joining in - I hope you can stick around. :thumbsup2

You know, if DD had not been on a super-duper-Pluto-seeking mission leading up to this trip, I probably would not have ever booked GG. I'm so glad that we ended up going there! My only fear is that this experience was not the norm - it would be hard to match the good time we had there. But I will certainly be booking it again in hope that it can measure up! :thumbsup2

Akershus Breakfast

This is one of those “tradition” meals for us. We love the princesses - what can I say? :confused3

The Akershus Royal Banquet Hall is located in Norway in the World Showcase of Epcot.

We did not wait long before we called to get in line to meet Belle. And that line moved very quickly as well. DD was happy to see Belle again!

We were then seated quickly at a table in a little nook with just a few other tables. The view.

At Akershus, you start your breakfast at the cold buffet where they have cold cuts, cheese, fruit, and lots of pastries. DD’s plate:

And mine:

Our server (and the server trainee who was helping her) were very nice here. And the chef who came out was also very friendly and helpful. He explained that the obvious stuff on the buffet was safe and then said that everything on the hot platter was gluten-free, which was pretty cool! He also said that he would send out a gluten-free blueberry muffin and a waffle, which he did! The muffin was very good; the waffle was obviously some kind of frozen toaster waffle and not great. The potatoes at Akershus are like food crack - they are INSANE! I could eat myself sick on them. I chose to exercise some self control, however. ;)

A tasty gluten-free muffin:

Not so tasty waffle:

Hot platter - note the Crack Potatoes!

We really enjoyed our breakfast. However, this place is about the princesses. We have always had a really fun time here. Unfortunately, the princesses were very rushed and just kind of odd this visit. :confused3 But DD still had a good time with them!

So, would we return to Akershus? Of course we would! We love princesses, remember!? Also, Crack Potatoes! :rotfl2:

Ooooh! I'm so glad to hear that the potatoes are gluten free! They really are addictive!

We've eaten there 3 times- twice in that same room. It's the best spot.

Getting caught up with your awesome report! Garden Grill looks amazing, I've heard a lot of good things about that restaurant and am determined to try it on our next visit. How wonderful that you had such great character interaction (including the chef, who certainly sounded like a character himself, LOL!)

Akershus is another restaurant we haven't tried yet and I doubt we will as DH is iffy about Norwegian food and we're waaay beyond the princess stage. :rotfl: Those "crack" potatoes look seriously tempting though ...

Enjoying your reviews, looking forward to the next installment!

Oh, they are dangerous, aren't they??? I made them for Christmas morning one year - I am considering doing it again, but having a big vat of them taunting me from my kitchen all day is not the best idea. ;)

I really liked that spot - it was a totally different experience from the other area we have been in on our two other trips. I liked it better - less chaotic. :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! GG was really the MOST fun! And you're right - the chef was a total character too. I think part of the reason that the character interaction was so good is that the chef and server were both totally interacting with the characters too. It was like everyone there was just having a ball. :thumbsup2

Well, no Norwegian food at breakfast (other than some smoked fish on the cold buffet). But it probably would not be worth it unless you were wanting to meet the characters. The crack potatoes, however, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. ;)

Enjoying your reviews, looking forward to the next installment!
Thanks! I get a little bogged down trying to keep up with my Trip Report at the same time, but we did a lot of dining, so more should be up before too long! :cheer2:

Just joining in and loving your reviews! This is very helpful for my trip planning for February!!

Thank you so much for sharing! We are considering DxDDP for our next onsite trip next summer, and it's nice to read a report of people who have done this plan :thumbsup2

Two fab character meals to catch up on :)
I'm going to have to get to GG one of these days!

Welcome! I'm so glad you joined in!!! How exciting to have a trip coming up in February - I bet it will be a great time to be there.

You're very welcome - and thank you for reading and commenting! We really enjoyed the DxDDP - it was nice to have the regularly scheduled A/C breaks, and we really liked trying to many new places. I think we would enjoy the food even more during a cooler time of year.

Thanks for a great report of Garden Grill!
Thanks for reading and commenting! We sure had a great time at GG!!

Oh, I hope you do! I was so surprised by what a great time we had! This place just doesn't get a lot of coverage on here - I had never read anything bad and had seen a few good reviews, but I really didn't know what to expect. Such a great surprise!

Le Cellier Lunch

I know that there has been a lot of buzz about LC going to a two-credit establishment. Honestly, we ate there for lunch on our last trip (2011) and thought it was fine - good but nothing to write home about. So why were we doing it again? Especially now that it was two credits? Well, I’ll be honest - the DxDDP gives you a LOT of credits. I needed another two-credit restaurant, and it needed to be at lunch. So LC it was!

I did notice that the place was a lot less crowded now that it was charging two credits. I know that people complain about the dark atmosphere here, but to me, that’s a steakhouse! :confused3 We like it.

Our server here was very, very nice, but she was also VERY present - constantly checking on us, overly loud, kind of rehearsed. It was distracting and, frankly, kind of irritating. But she was so nice that I felt bad for feeling that way. :confused3

The chef here was also quite nice and helpful. There was really no issue with anything that I planned to order.

How strange! It appears that I don’t have menu pictures from LC! :scared1: Sorry about that. I don’t know what happened.

DD started with the House Green Salad.

DD ate two cucumber slices from this along with a roll. The heat was really killing our appetites.

DD’s Review: “I didn’t like it. But I liked the bread.”

I started with the cheese plate. The chef here even made me some gluten-free toasts to go with this - something no one else had done. That was nice! :thumbsup2

This was very tasty - I can’t really go wrong with a cheese plate though. I mean, it’s CHEESE! So it’s GOOD! :woohoo:

For her entree, DD chose the kids’ steak meal. She had a couple of bites of the steak and about 2 fries. Again, the heat had destroyed our appetites, I think.

DD’s Review: “I didn’t eat it. I like steak. But I didn’t eat it because I didn’t want it really much.”

I had the famous mushroom filet with risotto. This is the worst picture ever and makes this dish look disgusting. I apologize for that because this actually is a really tasty dish with savory mushrooms, creamy risotto, and a nicely cooked filet.

DD had been waiting for months to get the Chocolate Moose here, and it did not disappoint. She did somehow manage to pack away about half of this little beauty.

DD’s Review: “I love it!!! I love it!!! And love it and love it! I can’t wait to have it again!”

I had the Maple Creme Brulee. It was tasty as well - again, I am not a big dessert person, so it is not super-memorable for me. And, as with every other course, I just wasn’t all that hungry. :(

Would we return to Le Cellier? Oh, probably at some point - especially if we needed to burn some credits. But I would love to try some of the other Epcot restaurants first.

I completely understand and sympathize with not being hungry on the DxDP! I loved trying the signatures but we found we never really had the chance to actually get very hungry. We even woke up full! :lmao:

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal at LeCel even though you weren't really hungry, and I LOVE Willow's reviews, LOL! If you want an honest answer, ask a child! :rotfl:
