How Did We Eat So Much?! Lots of Pics + DxDDP + DCL! *UPDATES 7/12*

I want to go back to the Yachtsman RIGHT NOW!

Again, I hate that you had such bad service. It really can ruin a meal. I'm glad that you'd be willing to try it again though, we loved our meal there.

The puzzle was one of Maddie's favorite desserts of the whole trip! So clever!

Hello! Thanks for joining! How excited that your cruise is coming up so fast. :woohoo: Have you cruised with DCL before? Are you booking any meals at Palo or Remy?

Yes, we are very excited for the cruise - just 6 weeks on Saturday :thumbsup2 This will be our 4th cruise with DCL - 2 3-days and 1 7-day, but first time on the Fantasy. We haven't booked Palo or Remy for dinner but we do have a brunch booked at Palo.

Great start to your reviews. I feel your pain - 6 year olds are not the most patient at the best of times, your DD did really well to cope with the long waits associated with signature dining - and the excessive waits you experienced due to your poor service. The food does look delicious, though.

Sorry that your service was less than stellar - one really should get better service, generally, at WDW but particularly when paying the prices at a signature restaurant. I am glad you didn't let it taint your review of the food though.

Who knew that a chocolate jigsaw could be difficult to do - I would have just eaten it :rotfl:

Shame your service at YSH was a little on the slow side and annoying that they took forever to bring you some bread :upsidedow
At least it sounds like your food was pretty tasty anyway :thumbsup2

Joining in!!!! We did Dlx dining plan last trip and I really wanna do it again for this trip!!!! I cant wait to read more reviews!

If you go back to Yachtsman ask for Yun. She was by far the best server we had the entire trip.

The food at Yachtsman looks delicious, but I'm sorry you had a less than stellar server. You certainly expect service that's a cut above when dining at a Signature, since service can make or break a dining experience. You still reviewed it fairly though, and didn't allow the poor service to colour your review of the food. I think that's wonderful! :thumbsup2

Oh, I am excited to be following along with this dining review! That is quite an amazing list of restaurants! I would love to do a trip someday where we splurge on the Deluxe Dining plan... maybe on a future anniversary trip :goodvibes

And if we did, Yachtsman is certainly a place we want to try! Your food looks delicious, even though the service seems less than stellar. I love your DD's reviews - "I terribly loved it" lol!

I sure wish I had that wine flight right now! :rotfl2:

We chose not to let the service ruin the meal for us, but it certainly did have an effect. Luckily, the food and the fact that we were finally back at WDW more than made up for it.

Willow loved the puzzle too - you will quite possibly be seeing it again in this report. ;)

Oh, which other ships have you done? We have only done the Wonder and the Fantasy. I bet you will love your Palo brunch!

I think DD really did pretty well - I don't remember her getting too antsy. The food was absolutely great, and that sure helped.

It was disappointing, but I know that every restaurant can have a server who is not great, or even a usually good server can have a bad night. If I had been there before and experienced the same thing, I would start to question the restaurant. But I choose to think it was a fluke; would definitely return for the food and a different server. ;)

Everything we had was really delicious. No complaints there at all. :thumbsup2

Welcome! So glad you joined. I hope you decide to do the Dx plan again - it is so much fun!

Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much! As I mentioned, I really think a restaurant or a server can have an off night. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, and we were back in WDW - couldn't be too upset by anything!

so far, nice, but please.. the fonts.. so big, so purple.. so not needed!
Welcome to the DIS. :teeth: Sorry you don't care for the font. I hope you enjoy some other dining reviews.

I think an anniversary Deluxe splurge is a great idea! You should do it. And come back and write reviews and post pictures of everything. :woohoo:

I definitely recommend giving the Yachtsman a try. We sort of bombed with our server, but the place over all was great. DD's reviews crack me up too.

The steak looks great but I was sorry to hear about the other underwhelming components of your meal, including the service. This is one of the things I am afraid of with a gluten free notation. There are very few bread products we like - well only one brand actually, so I was waiting to hear about your bread options. Too bad.

We had bad service last year and our server was a lady as well. I was sooooo mad at her I didn't even tip which is something we always do.

Following along! Can't wait to read more of your reviews!

Sorry Yachtsman service was so bad! And sad you still got sick! My husband is allergic to seafood so we note it on the reservations. Most of the time a Chef will come out and occasionally no one does. Generally we just need to make sure there is no cross-contamination as you can usually tell when something has seafood!

Most of the food really was delicious. And don't worry - I had a lot of VERY positive gluten-free experiences on this trip. :thumbsup2

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Really seems like service at the Yachtsman is either amazing or not great at all. That's really too bad.

Thanks for reading along!! Luckily, this was the only night, out of a lot of vacation nights, that I was ill. I don't know for sure that it was from the restaurant; luckily, none of the other restaurants ever gave me a reason to feel concerned.

Just a quick note to let you know I have not abandoned my report/review or anything. I have a trip report running at the same time, and it is just too confusing to try to get ahead to the restaurants on here before I am at that point on the TR. Sadly, my TR was at a stand-still waiting for my PhotoPass+ CD. Luckily, that has now arrived, and I am working on getting pics uploaded and getting things rolling again. So, hopefully, I will have my next review posted before too long here! Thank you so much to those of you who are hanging in with me. :thumbsup2

Cinderella's Royal Table Lunch

Our next dining experience was at Cinderella's Royal Table for lunch. This is a traditional experience for us - we have had lunch here on our first WDW day each of our three trips. We checked in at 11:52 for our 12:05 ADR.

At CRT, you check in outside and then are called to go into the castle. Once inside, you wait in a line to meet Cinderella. I know this is a dining review, but these type of meals are as much about the character meets as the food if not more (oh, lets face it, they are ALL about the character meets), so I will include a little info on that aspect as well. The line moved very quickly at CRT today, and DD was meeting Cinderella at 12:03 - 9 minutes from when we checked in. :thumbsup2

Five minutes after meeting Cinderella, we had made our way upstairs and were seated at our table.

We perused the menu:

In stark contrast to the laissez-faire attitude of the YSH server to my dietary issue, the server here told us that she could not deliver anything to table until the chef had visited. (Luckily, after this, the rest of the restaurants seemed to have a nice middle-of-the-road approach.) No problem though - the chef came out very quickly and was very nice. He has celiac disease himself, so he was very understanding. Unfortunately, my options here were pretty limited. I could have the Oven-Roasted Chicken Breast with Farro Wheat Risotto, Wild Mushroom and Leek Ragout served with a Stone-Ground Mustard Jus but sub mashed potatoes for the farro risotto, or the Pan-Seared Cod with Meyer Lemon Butter, Tomatoes, Quinoa and Basil drizzled with Minus 8 Vinegar, or, as a vegetarian option, some roasted vegetables. I like to try new things when dining out and eat things I cant make at home, but that wasnt an option here, so I went with the chefs recommendation and ordered the chicken (something I never order in restaurants because chicken is BORING).

The standard appetizer salad was safe for me, and it was very tasty and fresh.

DD had the childrens appetizer of cheddar cheese cubes and grapes. She ate most of the cheese.
DD's Review: “It was awesome, and it was yummy.

We got some much-needed beverages - an iced tea for me and a chocolate milk for DD.

For her lunch, DD ordered the chicken nuggets. (I have to stand up for myself here - DD does NOT eat chicken nuggets at home. She eats homemade, fresh, healthy meals 99% of the time at home; when we go on vacation, I try very hard to let go and let her order what she wants. The same approach that I try to take for myself!) As you can see, the CRT nuggets come with mashed potatoes (which DD hates - how is that possible????) and corn. She ate a nugget and a bite of corn - seriously, there were PRINCESSES IN THE ROOM!!!!
DD's Review: “I loved the chicken nuggets and the corn. Not the mashed potatoes - I hate mashed potatoes.”

And my chicken. Hey, this was pretty tasty. Definitely better than I was expecting, and as you know, you are here for the princesses, not the food! I will admit though that I was a little disappointed that the "Wild Mushroom and Leek Ragout" apparently went by the wayside as far as gluten contamination. :(

For dessert, DD ordered the decorate-your-own cupcake. She ate 2 or 3 bites. :confused3 But, hey, she had a great time decorating it! :thumbsup2
DD's Review: “I loved it, but I was too excited to see the princesses and to go swimming!”

For me, the cheesecake was gluten free. It was very tasty, but I am not a big dessert person, so I left most of it. The brittle was quite tasty though!

And, really, I dont think a review of a place like this is fair if it is limited to the food. You don't book CRT for the food, you book it for the princesses. So I do want to note that, after three years of having lunch here on our first WDW day, this was probably the best princess interaction we have ever had. And we have always had great interaction in the past. Today, every princess we saw was funny, ready to converse with DD, and just a ton of fun. This was truly a great experience! And here are a few princess pictures because this is what the experience here is all about!

Would We Return? Absolutely. This is a wonderful first-day tradition for us. We will continue to do it until DD doesn't want to anymore.

***Edited to add DD's thoughts on her meal.

Up Next: Artist Point

Great update! We've never eaten at CRT (when she was little, DD was all about the villains, not the princesses, LOL), but I always enjoy reading reviews of other people's experiences. I agree this restaurant is more about the experience than the actual food, and it's nice to know they took your gluten sensitivity a lot more seriously here than at YS.

Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

Great CRT review! Whenever we have a little on that will be on the top of my list for an ADR.

I'm glad you had great character interaction! Your chicken looks VERY sad though! You would have thought there was something else they could add to pizzazz it up at least a little!
