How crowded are toys stores the days after Christmas?

I've never gone to the toy store in the few days after Christmas, so I was wondering if it is very crowded, or is it just people with returns/exchanges? I have some birthday gifts to get and I kind of wasn't planning on going to TRU right now (before Christmas)for fear of major crowds.
What would be worse, just before, or just after?

When are their birthdays? If it is into Jan I would wait just because the shelves will be bare. DS Birthday is Jan 7th and one year I wanted till after Christmas and I had a hard time finding something.

I've been shopping on December 26 once, and I'll never do it again. It was way too crowded. I was in high school, so I didn't go in any toy stores, but I had a bunch of clothes to exchange. My mom always gets me clothes that are way too big for some reason. Anyway, the exchange lines were hideous, but the rest of the stores were crowded too. I guess people were spending the cash they got and the money they got from making returns.
