By calling the airline? I'm trying to get us bumped and receiving at least $300 in credit!

I love getting bumped! My husband passed on 3 of us getting bumped last Christmas while I was in the bathroom with my 3 year old! Grrr .... We would be flying free to Orlando in June/July instead of paying for it.

You really can't do anything in advance. The best strategy is to get to the gate early and check in with the agent and ask them if they need any volunteers to be bumped and put yourself on the list.

Ditto this. Everything I have read says get there as soon as a gate agent shows up to the gate (early!) and volunteer to be bumped if it comes to it. Then sit back and cross your fingers.

I have been told by a res agent on the 800 number for Delta more than once, I just asked. The ticket agent can also tell you, as well as the gate agent.

I used to always volunteer, because it used to be a free ticket. But now it's just flight credit.

Booking your flights during the busier days of the week helps a lot. Usually Sundays (after everyone gets their Saturday night stays), and Fridays (business travellers going home).

My fiance and I are hoping to get bumped on our flight home from WDW in Aug. I have taken that flight before and it was overbooked the last time I fly it but couldn't put it off b/c we had no way to contact our ride. Boy do I wish we took it. Right now it looks like the flight is pretty full and its only March but the price for the flight also went up so I'm not sure if people will buy the remaining tickets at the high price. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
