How bad is it? Positive tests

We had a wonderful cruise and on second day back home, I tested positive. I don't know if it was from someone onboard, someone at Cozumel or at the rest stops. Either way, we had such a great time, we do not regret going. Such great memories. Covid for me has been very flu-like. If I could go back, the only thing I would have done differently is taken a mask for the few times we were in close quarters (getting off the ship at Castaway or lining up for last day breakfast) and I definitely would have worn it at the rest stops on the turnpike.
See if I got flu like symptoms for me that wouldn’t be good

We go in a month (and I know that that anything can happen in a month) and I was anxious about it, but now, I'm just feeling that this has been postponed twice already and we're going to try to be as safe as possible. We're going to do the masks, try to avoid the really crazy populated areas, and do our best. All ships are going through the same thing at the moment-doing the same testing, the same protocols. I can't blame Disney for any of it.
This is how I was till I realized it wasn’t worth it and moved if to February, we will do land trips to NYC, etc. but I have a autoimmune and would rather not feel death like the flu I had once in 2014

I'm doing 2 cruises in the next 2 months and am worried! First cruise is Alaska in a month. That I'm not as worried about as I can isolate the 1-2 weeks before and I still mask outside anyways; I'll also test before leaving for Vancouver so will know with plenty of time.

It's my September B2B on the Wish I'm most worried about though. Doing a week pre-cruises at WDW, including the Starcruiser! So I'm worried I will end up catching it somewhere there. And not just for the initial embarkation, but we will need to test on the in-between day due to B2B. I really don't want to test positive for the second leg and then have to somehow pack up the whole room and not be able to do the 4-night. I will definitely be masking, though I was hoping I wouldn't have to on the Starcruiser so I can really feel like I'm there!

Where is this information coming from?
We were booked on the 7/21 southern 9 night on the fantasy. Since our sailing was getting so close, I started searching out reports from guests leaving the fantasy. A couple weeks ago, covid onboard started being mentioned. The worst reports are coming out of the fantasy sailing last week.

A couple people reporting the same thing could be coincidence. Multiple people reporting the same thing gave us cause for worry. We had covid about 6 weeks ago. The thought of having covid in a small cabin on deck 2 is more than I can handle. Throw in the high cost of the cruise and the chance that your vacation days for the year would be spent in isolation caused us to cancel when we were exposed to covid.

We sailed multiple times last year and felt totally comfortable. It feels different right now. Part of it is that I just had covid for the first time and it wasn’t the sniffles. It was worse than any flu I have ever had. Not looking for a repeat in isolation on deck 2.

Sure. That's because Disney (and most other cruise lines) have basically given up on Covid-19 precautions. They have you do a largely pointless antigen test two days out and the crew still wear masks and test regularly, but otherwise, everything is back to the way it was before.

I don't know. I didn't like the added stress of the pre-cruise PCR testing and I didn't like wearing a mask for shows and movies (too long!), but I definitely felt a lot more comfortable on the ship knowing that everyone else was taking the same precautions.

Yep. There are no precautions at all on board any more. Hence why my Fantasy sailing has so much positivity.

Seems like capacity has been raised to an unsustainable level with the amount of covid that is around right now. Just so many people on the fantasy right now. Add in the vast number of people skipping testing with the 90 day recovery letter and the risks of bringing covid onboard with you just gets higher and higher.

As far as we know, Disney never really limited capacity. Demand was lower because some people didn't want to or couldn't travel or didn't want to deal with the Covid-19 restrictions. Now that it's summer, school's out, people are spending their savings on "revenge travel", and the protocols are mostly gone, cruise ships are filling up again. I enjoyed the relatively emptier cruises, but I'm actually glad to see guests returning. The industry needs them to keep going and keep innovating. I just wish that we could have some of the old testing rules back.

It's bad. We just got off the Fantasy on Saturday. At least 2 charter buses of families were taken to be quarantined for 10 days and that's just what I saw. Lots more disembarked with COVID (hadn't told Disney or did but it was the last day and Disney told them to just mask and disembark). Our FB group for the sailing has lots of people positive right now. And grumpy. 1 out of 4 of us tested positive with it the next year. For the record, we JUST had COVID in early May... we thought we'd have some more protection but with this new variant, I guess not! Our servers told us that the crew on the Fantasy was hit pretty hard recently. The server at a table near ours had "laryngitis" and then never came back... 2 stories were given to two separate families she was serving- she hurt her back and she sprained her ankle.

My 4yo got tested the night before the cruise - the CMs didn't seem to care how good of a job I did with the testing. AND, even worse, if someone in your cabin was positive, you were quarantined BUT the people you were interacting with -- like family in a different cabin -- didn't have to be tested.

Obviously we knew the risks going but dang, I feel like Disney could be more forthcoming with the positivity rate if they're noticing a spike so people can make an informed decision about what they want to do (mask, not attend certain events, etc).
What do you mean taken for quarantine for 10 day?. Is that a thing now? Is Disney testing mid cruise?

disney does test the under 5 guests on the last night of the cruise. They come to the cabin and monitor the test. This is for any cruise 5 nights or longer.

I mean I literally have done everything I could to protect myself since the beginning. Past year has been pretty normal for me honestly. Everyone I know has gotten Covid at some point

I am going to enjoy my cruise normally. I won't cancel anything cause of it. Just not worried about it anymore. Been primary vaxxed. There's treatments. Nothing left to really do.

But I understand if others in the position want to. Everyone's risk tolerance is different. I don't judge anyone. Just dont wanna keep changing up things every few months. If someone is THAT worried, cruising is not the vacation to be taking, esp long ones or ones that require overseas travel

Not to mention, there are plenty of people on these cruises who have zero issues and have cruised numerous times since the beginning. More than the amount of positives pre boarding. Just gotta stay positive, enjoy yourself.

The cruises out of US and Canada are not sending people to quarantine if they test positive at the port; they just get taken back to the airport or a hotel. The Magic over in Europe -- I think they do get sent to quarantine.
Oh phew! So just confirming: I’m doing a B2B (4N/3N) and we need to test between them. If one of us tests positive we won’t be shipped off to quarantine? We can just take our rental car and go quarantine ourselves, right? (Out of Port Canaveral) I was having a mini panic attack about the forced 10 day quarantine.

Correct.

Yeah. Unless the government is dragging me off the ship there is no way I'm letting Disney quarantine me except if it's at the the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian of course. :)

The hard part is that you never know how hard it will hit you. I had a flu about three years ago that was 100x worse than COVID for me, yet my sister has been very sick with COVID for three weeks and can still barely talk. It's really smart to play it safe with your autoimmune disease. I really hope you get to go in February without too much concern!

That was exactly what I was thinking! I had not heard about any type of forced quarantine so I was real confused for a minute.

If you choose to test at the port and end up positive, does DCL still give you a credit for your cruise? How about if you test positive once you’re onboard? You get quarantined to Deck 2 - any cruise credit anymore?

Yes if you are positive prior to boarding, no, if you are positive after boarding.
