How bad are the cheerleaders?

I stayed at CBR spring before last and at some point during the week cheerleaders checked in. For the most part, we didn't really notice they were there. I mean we would see them practicing in the grass off of the walkways but for the most part that was about it around the resort. However, we really didn't hit the food court much at all. While we didn't see them all that often I did have two run ins with them. We were on the bus back from MK one night and there was a group of them sitting right behind us and they were LOUD. I mean darn near screaming. They were talking and laughing with their friends which is ok but good lord, indoor voices people. They just had no notion of how loud they were or, if they did, didn't care how it affected the rest of the bus. Also, one day at the resort one of the teams was having pictures taken. They were lined up on the bridge that connects Jamaica to the main pool area and food court. Picturesque yes but why they felt the need to block the only path to the food court I don't understand. I was walking up to the bridge and saw them lined up on it so I stopped and was going to wait but then noticed they were still setting up the shot and fiddling with the camera so I scurried over the bridge before they started taking any pictures. One little snot turned around as I passed, looked right at me, sneered, and said something to the effect of "you can't walk here!!!!!" Ummm.....listen half pint, if you don't want photo bombs don't block the only path to the food court and you weren't even taking pictures yet anyway so watch your mouth. In short, while they weren't overly disruptive in my experience, direct confrontations are aggravating. I would avoid them if you can.

I found your post hilarious!!! I'm sorry you had such an interference with the cheerleaders. We, however, have never been to a resort with the cheerleaders. Only been on the same monorail with the Christmas Parade Cheerleaders.

Sadly not up to date with cheerleading events - there's several missing!

I know that my friend's daughter will be doing a cheer competition the weekend of Feb 6-8. She is 10yo, and the whole team must have parent chaperones, so at least there will be ample supervision. Her whole team in 13 & under, but I am not sure of the ages of all those competing for the weekend.
She also said that they will have their own transportation to all the events and the parks, so that might help too.

Hi everyone
My family had booked our vacation in March and our staying at the Caribbean Beach resort. We stayed there in November last year and loved it. However I found out today that the cheerleaders will be there during the same time as us and now I'm worried that maybe we should switch resorts. On our last trip to CBR on the day we checked out a huge group of lacrosse players checked in and they were everywhere which didn't bother me as much because we were leaving. However this time the cheerleaders are going to be there for most of our trip. So now I'm wondering how bad are the cheerleaders really? Does anyone have any experiences with this? I've searched online for any experiences and so far everything that comes up makes them sound horrible. I've read that there will be a lot of them running around the resort, they practice very late at night and very early in the morning, and I've also read that transportation can be a problem with them staying at the same resort. So are they really that bad? :confused3
Thanks!

What dates did you find out they will be there? We are staying there Feb.28 for 7 days!

On a January trip we ran into groups of college cheerleaders. They were very well behaved, however, their "perkiness" was draining. We had a flock, gaggle, or whatever you call them on the Kilimanjaro Safari with us, and they pretty much cheered for every animal they saw. Yeah, it got old quickly.

:lmao: Tom, I think the term is a pomful. ;) Did they manage a cheer with a rhyme for elephant?

My friend just shared that there will be an after-hours party/run of the place for just the cheer teams in one of the parks from 10p-12a one night. I didn't realize that Disney would do that for a group, but then again, I never really gave it much thought...
Any cheer people know for sure?

I just found out the Cheerleading Nationals are the same weekend in February that we are going to be there :scared1::scared1:. Thank God we are staying at the GF and FW -- at least we won't have to share a resort with their pomful selves.

Yes, Disney does have special park events for large groups -- but if I had to bet it is a night when that park is normally closed at that time of night. Two years ago we had the magic kingdom all to ourselves for a corporate event at about the same time of night -- a corporate sponsor basically paid to have the MK open for the entire group for 2 hours of no waiting rides, etc.

That's the one my friend's daughter is in.
Their group was given the choice of Coronado or CBR & they chose Coronado, so you will definitely be separate. :)

Also (off topic) just noticed you're my CT neighbor! I'm over the mtn in Avon. We're staying at BWI from 1/31-2/6.

I drive through Avon everday on my way out to Ethel Walker -- small world!

Yes they do if the group will pay for it, and it's usually at DHS for the youth sports groups. Most are scheduled for after park closing time but sometimes you will get a park closing early for this kind of thing.

I was actually at the parks, once, when Disney closed Magic Kingdom at like 4:30, for a "private party". All the CM who told me about it would say was that yes, Disney will do it, and it's usually for a corporation.

(Really didn't bother us, cause it's hard for me to get Mom to get out of the hotel and go to the parks, anyway. All we had planned for that evening was dinner at Chef Mickey's, and watch the fireworks from our balcony. But I wonder how many other people had plans that were seriously messed up.)

Yes. For The Summit, May 3rd is the Celebration Party. It is at HS and starts at like 8:00 or 8:30. It is an extra fee, ticketed event that people must have a wristband to be in the park, get on rides.

As a cheer mom and having been to Disney for cheer competitions one in March, one in May, and May coming up, I will say that I do not stay at the All Stars during comps. Last year for the May comp, I stayed at CBR and we saw no effect of the cheerleaders. At the All Stars however, it was packed. That's where teams go to practice. There really is no space at CBR for teams to practice. This May CBR is an option on the travel package. We are staying at AKL (decided before I knew CBR was a package option), because while we are going to the comp, DD will not be competing due to spinal surgery next month. The All Stars are cheaper on the package and much more convenient for teams because that's where practice is held. Many gyms require all athletes to stay at the All Stars, ours does not. I'm sure the food court will be busy as well as the busses but so would any other resort that is sold out. Many of the athletes will be waiting for busses to ESPN, as that is where the comp takes place and there are seperate busses for that.
Behavior - most cheer gyms have cracked down on behavior. I know our gym (and most in our area) has a curfew and there are consequences if an athlete is found in violation of the curfew. All of our athletes are reminded, in a meeting, before they leave for comp, about acceptable behavior. Yes, our athletes can be loud in the parks but they are generally polite and respectful. The loudness is teenage girl loud, not traditional cheerleader, doing cheers loud. All Star cheerleaders do not 'cheer', it's complete silence other than music when they compete - it's tumbling, stunting, dancing. If you run into an athlete or group of them that is particularly rude or disrespectful - if they are wearing anything that identifies their gym, make a note of it and contact the gym when you get home. While it doesn't help you while you are there, MOST gym owners want to know if their athletes are being inappropriate. I know ours would. Also, call them out on the rude or disrespectful behavior, not so much being loud, but snide comments as one poster mentioned.
Good luck and I hope you have a good time.

Riverside isn't generally on the travel packages for cheerleading events - there is an cheerleading event The Summit runs 1-3 May but the likelihood is your hotel will be minimally effected, if at all. On the travel packages are Allstar Resorts, Pop, CBR and occasionally Coronado but usually just the first three. Obviously when you go to these events you don't have to buy the travel package and could decide to stay wherever but a lot buy it for ease/convenience so it tends to group people at particular resorts.

It also doesn't really have an impact on park crowds because you don't really get loads of park time with the events being all day at ESPN WWoS and The Summit is younger kids anyway.

Note - Summit kids are aged 9?-18. So while there are groups of younger kids, there are plenty of older teens as well. Senior teams could be comprised of all 15-18 years olds. It's not college kids or strictly high school but it's also not strictly Pop Warner age.
