I hope this isn't a banned question? Disney Vet planning first on site Universal trip staying at the HRH in August. I always tip Disney housekeeping $5 per day for four adults in the room. Is that right for HRH as well? I wouldn't ever tip in a UK hotel as people are paid differently here so like to check I'm doing things 'right' when abroad.

I would say that $5 per day would be perfect! I would go a step further to say that if you find that your housekeeper(s) do a good job to write a comment card and include their name, so that they get recognition.

That's what we do.

We leave $5 a day in an envelope that says "for housekeeping thank you" and a smiley face :)......so they know it's for them......

Last year we had same lady practically every day, so we wrote her name on the envelope after a week. She left little thank you cards for us every few days too.

Thanks both. I also just realised what Disney has done to me. We are actually a family of two adults and two teens but as they are Disney adults I just fell into that. For price though I guess they are Universal adults too.... Anyway. It wouldn't change how I tip.

Tipping is great and kind and nice and I do it when we allow housekeeping in, but...over at wdw at least, officially it's a non-tipped position. When the housekeepers accept employment they know this, so they should never expect a tip. I find it interesting that we feel compelled to tip them when it's not one where they should expect it. I'm sure they get paid less than in the UK of course.

I never feel compelled to tip housekeeping. I'm not sure they do expect it, certainly not the ones we have come across, but it has always been appreciated and they have always thanked us.

I tip because I want to. It may be a non tipped position but they are still giving me a service, and especially at RPR we always get exceptional above and beyond treatment and an extra tip reflects my appreciation of that fact. It has no reflection of what they get paid either........I'm a generous tipper and always will be.

sometimes I tip. sometimes I don't. its mainly when I remember to. I never feel obligated. and I am not sure what above and beyond treatment really is. I am fairly certain, that my $400 a night includes the expectation to have a really, really clean room. fresh towels. and extra towels, etc. that may come up along the way.

to me going above and beyond means, way more than this. that being said, I still tip about 50% of the time, again when I remember.

As an executive housekeeper, I will say that most housekeepers take great pride in the cleanliness of their rooms and how they take care of their guests. It is not a tipped position however these ladies and sometimes gentlemen take great pride in their work and want to make your stay in their room (yes I say THEIR room as it may not be their hotel but those rooms are theirs and the people that stay in those rooms are their guests) as comfortable as possible. Tips are not necessary however they are VERY much appreciated. Again tips are not necessary, that is why I also say if the housekeeper did a good job to fill out a comment card and mention them by name Or even just seek them out and tell them thank you.

i always do notes to the hotel on exceptional employees i encounter during my stay.
i do the same at the parks.

TM's can get rewarded for the cards a guest fills out to state their exceptional service .(parks)

when i leave the hotel at the end of my stay, i always talk to the housekeeper and ask if she wants the items i am not taking back.
i'm talking about unopened beverages, water, food, unopened candy from potter, etc.

i am always amazed how much housekeepers enjoy that also.

I don't tip. I don't leave my room a mess and the price for the room includes trash dumped, clean towels (I keep used ones hung to reuse but they always pull them) and bed made.
