We always stayed right across the street until just before Covid. We stayed down at the Hilton in March 2020 and haven't looked back, unless staying on property of course. We've stayed at Dolphins Cove, Hilton, Cambria and Homewood Suites right around the Toy Story lot and we love it down there. I personally wouldn't recommend Cambia but our experience may be not the norm. I have the Hampton Inn booked for our next three trips and also are staying at the Worldmark on a other one in spring. The Toy Story Lot is close and we enjoy missing the long security lines in the morning at the park. I'm definitely a convert to staying down the street.
I prefer a hotel over a motel as I age, especially ones with soundproof walls. Also I wanted to say back in the day we could get Desert Inn for $69 a night in the "off season" those were the days!
Is that the Hilton Anaheim or another one? Funny you say that about the Cambria. Had it booked for our last stay but it seems like a very polarizing hotel - lots of people love it but just as many seem to hate it. Ended up switching out of that because I just wasn't sure about it so went back to a place we have very much liked in the past. And I really agree on the soundproof walls! Tried the Tropicana last fall and while we loved being super close, I had a terrible time as a light sleeper with all the noise from people clumping around. People above us sounded like they were practicing their graveyard-shift clogging dance routine.
