HOT TOYS for CHRISTMAS 2006

Did you see the video on GMA? I just checked it out online - it was hysterical! And I don't normally think the Tickle Me Elmos are all that great, but this one was pretty funny, and my dd saw the video with me and loved it.

Walmart, here I come...now I just hope they aren't out of them. I refuse to become a crazy parent like in the "Cabbage Patch" days...

I did! I saw it this morning, that's why I ran to get it. I love that he slaps his knee :rotfl:

We saw the Clubhouse playset on the net, and my DD3 is already planning to ask Santa for this toy. From what I've seen online, it won't be in the stores until October, so I plan to get one early and return it if I can get a better deal.

Like many here, she also likes the "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses"
movie and dolls.

ETA: I see another poster found some of the Clubhouse toys at Walmart - maybe it's just the online retailers I tried that won't have them until later. It makes sense that Walmart and TRU would have them first.

I saw the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse set in TRU today. Its 39.99

Ugh. I went to Walmart this afternoon and was looking at the display where TMX Elmo *had* been. An employee came by and said they ran out two hours after putting them out... and they probably will not get more until October 1. :(

I pray this will not be another one of those toys that you just *cannot* get...

I know some of the posters on this thread were talking about the inflatable superman suit. I just saw them at Target for 18.98...regularly 24.98. Hope this helps. ;)

Oh, man, I should've checked the disboards earlier, I just got home from Target, but I didn't look in toys today. I guess I'll have to make another trip.

In case anyone wants to know, they have some cute beads and other craft items in little packets in the dollar spot, I picked some up for dd's stocking.

I have a 7 yo dd and a 5 yo ds. I was thinking of just buying the first Lego Star Wars. Do you think the new one would be the better one to buy or should I save my $ and get the original?

I would probably get them the first one ( my kids love it) ,then if they really like it you can get the 2nd one when the price comes down :sunny:

Maybe you guys can help me with a gift for school.

At DD's preschool they each have to buy a small gift for a specific child. 2 years ago it was "around $7", it may go up this year. Thing is, I won't know if it's a boy or a girl until closer to holidays. I'd like to be prepared with one boy gift and one girl gift as soon as possible. Any suggestions?

what's a good $8 gift for 3 year olds?

Mr. Potato Head, Doodle Pro (probably travel for around $8), Little People figures/vehicles, Play Doh set, Lego/Mega Bloks, puzzles, preschool games like Candyland or Memory, Colorforms or magnetic scenes, art supplies (Color Wonder, a pencil box filled with markers, crayons, pencils, etc - all on back to school clearance), probably lots more ideas out there!

I'd get the original. DS9 and DH brought home #2 last week and have been playing it eery night before bed. The new one is harder than the first one...... or at least thats the way it sounds from in here while I'm reading up on the DIS!

On the Elmos... if you are looking for them*I don't think I need another Elmo...even if he slaps his knee and the floor... I saw a ton of them at our supermarket. So check your local supermarkets for them. I honestly don't see it as being a must have- and I have a 3 and a 1 year old. (along with a 12 and an 9) but I think it still is kind of hard- stiff legs ect..for my little guys.

Yea, I am on the fence about it. It seems so cute, but I wanted to see how heavy and how hard it is. Would they just look at him and toss him aside or would it be something they would want to tote around?

I have never gotten any of the 'Elmo' electronic dolls, so I am not sure.

I think a lot of people are probably wondering about the new Elmo. I watched the video and saw shelves full of them at Walmart today. I think he is fun to watch a couple times, but after that, he isn't a super cuddly, take-to-bed kind of toy IMO. For those reasons we're skipping him at our house and going for other options. One thing I did get my 3 yo is the new TJ Bearytales from Playskool. He plays storybook cartridges and is animated with eyes, ears and arms moving when he "reads" the stories aloud with you. I'm all for reading to my kids myself, but my youngest likes more stories than I sometimes have time for so this seemed like a good fit for her.

Disneyglobegirl and dreaming3:

Thanks for your input. I just checked TRU and the original Lego Star Wars is only $20. I think I will go with that one since my kids don't play video games on a consistent basis. One week they'll play for hours other weeks they won't turn it on..

My 5 year old just got this game a few weeks ago and he loves it. It is nice too because two players can play at the same time.

You're welcome! I also agree with dreaming3 about Lego SW2 being a bit harder - DS spent his own money to get it and he loves it but said he was glad to have the first one to prepare for the 2nd- :)

The Elmo is not on my list as DD is 10 an DSS 12, but there is another thread onthis board saying they are going from $70-$150 on Ebay. I guess they are hot.

Can you imagine.....150.00 for a Elmo that laughs and falls down. He's still stiff looking to me, not really cuddly at all and I doubt my children would have wanted one if they were still young enough and in to Elmo.

I do however have a personal struggle going on over whether or not to get my dd 11 a My Twinn doll (around 170.00 after shipping and a matching outfit)....she's asked for one for the past 3 years and I just can't seem to pay that for a doll that is supposed to look and dress like you. Wonder if I couldn't just find a doll that looks like her and buy it matching clothes? LOL

Just have to comment on the My Twinn doll
Your DD won't like what I have to say though ;)

I bought them for my DD's and while they do look like the girls, it was an awfully expensive purchase to just sit in their rooms.

The dolls are really big and awkward to do anything with. They kind of remind me of bodybuilders with their big old arms and shoulders.
My girls certainly never took theirs anywhere like it shows the kids in all the marketing literature doing. I even bought a few extra outfits and I think the dolls are all still in the outfits they arrived in. (we have 3)

I'm kind of thinking at 11 your DD would be the same.

My girls have AG dolls that saw a lot more play time and it may sound strange, especially since two of my girls are older than your DD, but I think their favorite is still AG Bitty Baby. :rotfl:
They don't play with her anymore, but even my HS age DD has a little corner of her window seat still set aside for Bitty. The outfits and accessories are so cute that Bitty gets a change of clothes and a little display made for every season and holiday.

It's got to be tough when your DD has wanted the same thing for so long though, I bet you thought if you waited it out she would quit asking... right?

Good Luck with your decision... at least you won't be plopping down over $100 on a furry little manic laughing guy. :teeth:

well, Wal Mart has reported that so far their sales of Manic Laughing Elmo have exceeded their projections by 150%. He is the fastest selling toy release since the original TME 10 years ago.

I think that most of the larger retailers have probably kept some back for a Black Friday/Thanksgiving Week Promotion to draw shoppers into their stores.

That should be interesting to watch.

I'm still dying to get my hands on a Playstation 3 though. :thumbsup2

I checked Toysrus.com yesterday for curiousity. They were showing backorders to be shipped on Dec. 31st. It doesn't sound good for those who really want to get one & haven't yet. I think BF will be a madhouse, but will be their best bet. :sad2:

I'm still undecided on whether to try for Wii or Playstation 3. Now that I saw Target (I think!!! I've checked so many sites I can't remember for sure what was on which. ) took P3 preorders a few days ago for $299, I may go with that one too. That is, if I can get it. :wizard: I keep missing the preorders. :headache: I was definitely leaning toward the Wii, when I thought PS was going to be close to $500. $299 sounds more like it. ::yes::
