HOT TOYS for CHRISTMAS 2006

There are two PS2 models. There newer one is the slim one.

I have both and my older model gives me disc read errors and all kinds of trouble.

I haven't had any trouble at all with my new slim one.

I am looking to purchase the WII and the PS3 at some point.

DH & I have the Wii on our list, and a new TV as well. The kids aren't getting anything, but we haven't told them yet. :rotfl2:

I was thinking of getting a Gamecube for my 6 year old, but my mom (a former teacher) is trying to talk me out of it!

We have PS2 (3) and we have some problems with them but my kids wear them out with all the time they spend on them. I think for a 6 yr old, it would be a good starter and then you can upgrade when he's older. That's what we did when PS2 came out.

Guitar Heroes 2! :confused3 Didn't the first one just come out? I can't keep up with all of these electronics! Oh, well. Good thing I bought it at Wal-Mart and kept the reciept. Our Wal-Mart seems to take things back pretty easily, so I may just hold on to what we have and see what happens with GH2. If we decide to go with that one, then I guess GH1 is going back to the store!

Thanks for keeping me up to date!

If you do get a Wii, there's no need to get a Gamecube also. The Wii can play Gamecube discs, and has ports for Gamecube controllers and memory cards.

My son is 6 and this year will be our first w/any video game console. I was leaning toward a PS2. Is that a good choice for now??? or will it be outdated as soon as I get it??? I never even heard of the Wii until this thread it looks way more technical than a 6 yr old would need. pls help...this is our big santa gift this year and I'm lost!!

Also too, how do your younger kiddos even know what to ask for???? My kids (6 & 4) have never said I want this particular game or toy or doll. (except for he has asked for a video game system like his friend). Don't get me wrong put them in a toy aisle and they find a 100 things they want but really I never hear them ask for anything in particular unless we are right there. I always research and look for hot toys and seem to get it right.

We asked this same question for DD7, and the game people at Toys R Us and at Best Buy all said to get the Nintendo Gamecube. It is less expensive (yea!) and more durable (yea again!) than the PS2, and it plays the Mario games (she has a Game Boy and likes the Mario games, so we wanted something to play similar games). No other system can play the Mario games. The people I asked also said that there are more games for the PS2, but more E rated games for the Gamecube. (I also asked my DSIL, whose boys have PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Gameboy and PSP. She said get the Gamecube.) DD7 has loved it!

I haven't seen any. Where did you find these?? Thanks!!

Wal-Mart has some of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse toys. Ours didn't have the clubhouse (I got it at Toys R Us today), but it had the Counting Car, the Cell Phone, the Mickey with the DVD sampler, the Name that Tune Mickey (or whatever it is called), and the figurines that go with the car and the clubhouse. I am just about all set for DD3 for Christmas!

DS9 wants Heely's, since they are becoming real popular with the 9 & 10 yo crowd. I already picked up a pair when I saw them last week. One less thing to pick up on Santa's list. ;)

My dd(10) has only really mentioned one thing. A Vera Bradley purse of all things.I do think I will get her these cute Tinkerbell earings I saw.Dd(6) hasn't mentioned anything but walmart has a lot of bratz stuff on clearance and she likes them.April

My girls want American Girl doll stuff....

We've had a PS2 for a couple years now and never had any problems with it, but my kids asked for a gamecube for a long time and wanted one so badly that they finally saved up their own money and bought their own. My 5yo, 7yo and 9yo play it the most.

We've had 3 PS2's. The first 2 both eventually took a dive, but after considerable use. The slimer one we just got last year and so far so good.

Now- I seen a few people mention Guitar Hero-- I didn't know a #2 was coming out. We are definetly going to going after that one. Anyone know when it's going to be released, or did I miss that somewhere? We got ds (13) GH 1 last yr for Christmas and it was a HUGE hit. Even w/ dh and I, and my parents :teeth: !! It was really hard to find, but if #2's coming out #1 should be easier to get your hands on. I know ds also wants that Karoake PS interactive thing. Other than that-- of course it's all big ticket items that will be "Hot" for his age. I've actually bugged him about what he wants-- we are really "strapped" this year and I thought I'd start picking up small things here and there if I got a chance. He hasn't come up w/ anything.

I do have a 2 yr old nephew and 4yr old neice to buy for also, and I have no clue what to get on that front either.

Among the electronics the Star Wars DVds will be a battle to find

My son is just now getting in to Star Wars. What DVDs are you referring to? Also, any good Star Wars toys that you can recommend.

For both of my girls it's American Girl doll stuff. My nieces will probably ask for something from them too.

Are all the toys on the shelf yet?? You know the new ones especially for Christmas??
I might take my kids to just look up and down the aisles and make their list. So I can go ahead and start buying.

My dd loves American Girl, but I think she will get enough from my Mother, she buys her TONS of that stuff.

My vote goes to Nintendo Wii. Very exciting new toy my kids are clammering over! :Pinkbounc

Thanks! His birthday is september, so we thought maybe just get it anyway. It's $99 with one controller. I'm not sure about memory cards at this point, have not finished my homework, LOL.

We also got my son the Gamecube last year (he is 7 now) and he loves it. Lots of games for his age. The other thing I like about it is that I bought the converter so he can play all his Gameboy Games on the Gamecube, so that was a huge sell for me (that and the fact I got the system with 3 games last year at TRU for $99).

Does anyone know if the new Wii will be able to play the Gameboy Games??

I called Best Buy yesterday after reading this thread to see if they were going to have pre-orders. He said they were not and he figured no one would. He said last year when one of the big systems came out (can't remember which one) there were some stores who did pre-orders and those were the stores that did not receive any systems at all. He said they won't even know how many they will get. (just some info)

This year I got my DD5 a Disney Mix Stick, got one for DS7 too but am thinking of returning it and getting the I-pod Shuffle instead. Also, going to get DD5 the Fisher Price "I can play Piano" - this looks pretty cool. She loves music and this is a color coded piano an you plug the keyboard into the TV and it is like a video game that teaches you how to play the piano. You can buy different cartridges with different songs (Princess, Dora, Nick etc).

Other than that not sure what else to get them... just keep getting good ideas from this thread.
