Well, I should have listened and trusted my gut feelings. We checked in on Aug. 23 for a 2 week stay. This was a anniversary trip and I had emailed the by request manager ahead of time informing them of this and to request building #10, one of the supposed better ones.
I think these people really think that they have a nice hotel. Wrong, this is by far what a Wyndham property should be like. Shameful is what it is. Let's start with the beautiful entry foyer all in marble with the staff all dressed in black suits and looking very to-do. This is all a faux act. Went to our "upgraded room" right next to one of the duck ponds. This would be the only remaining duck pond with any water as it seems they failed to mention that they would be draining, cleaning and fixing the lagoons and ponds all week! It smelled disgusting and was even harder to look at. So much for beautiful grounds. Went to look at the pools, had to dodge and step through construction materials everywhere, it really was quite ugly.
The room itself. Although it was nice of them to put champagne in the room for our "special" stay, it hardly made up for the stench and general dirty appearance of the room. I could not imagine staying in this place for 2 entire weeks much less one night. Well, I was in tears and hubby didn't know what to do, so I called and talked to the manager (on my cell phone, as the phone in the room did not work!). He was very nice but explained to me that we had already been given an upgraded room to which I explained that it was disgusting and that we wished to be moved to the other Wyndham Palace resort. He called the manager there and all they had was for the first week because of Labor Day Weekend. Not good enough, told him I would find another place to stay. Called a few and them just gave up and called Walt Disney World, handed the phone to hubby and said "Fix it!!" A very nice gentleman got us a room at the Port Orleans Riverside at a military discount plus more of about 60% off the room, making it close to what we were going to pay for the lousy Wyndham.
Upside: Beautiful room, spotless, beautiful grounds, free boat to Downtown Disney, free parking and a romantic anniversary!
A happy ending for us eventually but be warned that those reviews of the Wyndham that everyone keeps talking about are indeed true. I had to see it with my own eyes.
