honest opinions on vero beach

I have never stayed there, but have visited the resort a few times.

It seems to me that 3 nights is probably the perfect amount of time between relaxation and boredom.

The resort is very nice but Vero is all about the beach. My family stays on the beach the entire day. We have a thing about the ocean. You can walk miles in either direction. Last summer, many of the condos on the beach were undergoing construction due to unbelievable hurricane damage. The beach was pretty desolate so if you're looking for action, you may get bored. But if you like the sun, swimming, collecting shells, flying kites, walking, and gazing at the ocean then you'll have a wonderful time. It's a very nice escape. I did not leave the resort for four days. :sunny:

on our next trip we are possibly thinking of adding a few days and staying at vero beach. i have 2 DS 18 & 16 years old. i am wondering if 3 days at vero with teens willl be too much. i am worried about them being bored. our plan is to do 7 days in WDW and 3 at vero.

thanks

Are you planning on summer or winter? We spent 3 days there over Xmas and it was wonderful. My older kids were 17 and 22 approximately at the time. They managed to occupy themselves with going to a couple of movies, walking on the beach (it was pretty cool for swimming that visit), computer use, a bit of shopping, lots of sleeping, reading and plenty of eating.

Summer has a few extra activities - waverunners, the turtle season, baseball, etc. More then 3 days with older kids could become extremely tedious. Most activities lean towards younger kids, not the teens.

You really have to like quiet and beach. Our group got bored quickly. I loved it but couldn't find anyone to go to the beach with me. It is a rather far drive into the towns so at night the kids took off to find something to do. I don't think more than 3 or 4 nights is a good thing unless you really like the beach. I am not even sure they will want to go back. My kids are in there 20's and 30's. I am looking forward to the beach cottage again, myself. I love sitting on the deck and enjoying the ocean. Hope I can get someone to go with me!

If you have to be on the move and need things to do a day trip to the Kennedy Space Center (1 1/2 hrs) is a great way to spend a day. Captain Hirams Marina (10 minutes north on Rt 1) offers cruises on the inland waterway and the opportunity to go fishing with a guide. A half day will probably cost $250-$300 on the Indian River - quite a bit more for an offshore trip. I went with my son last year. If you are not on a strict budget there is plenty to occupy the time if the beach scene is a little too slow to suit you.

And they love going to Vero. At night one of them and his girlfriend were walking on the beach and saw one of the turtles up on shore. My boys loved biking, swiming, going to the beach, boogie boarding, fishing at the lake on the other side of the road. We also went to the outlet mall in town- they have a Polo and Izod, ate out, saw a movie at the AMC there. We slept late, had room service- one of them worked out in the exercise room. You can also canoe, sign up for deep sea fishing, mini golf, jet ski, sailboat etc. Oh they also like to go to Hale groves and drink free fresh orange juice. And they like to eat at the Ocean Grill. And a lot time we hung out at the pool and actually talked to each other- what a concept!

thanks for all of the replies. not sure if we will do 2 or three days. i am leaning to doing just the 2.

I stayed for a week when I was 16 or 17 and I would have happily stayed longer. There is nothing to do and that is the beauty of it!

Our crew DS's 13 and 16 and new princess: who is now 9 months are going for a week this July. We have went every summer since 1999. My boys love it but be warned the activities for teens can be non-existant a times. Last summer when we spoke to one of the activity CM's he said they were working on more activities for the older group. However, they have each other and should be fine.

Sebastian Inlet is just north of the resort... maybe 10 minutes?

You are almost always guaranteed to see surfers there... and some really GOOD ones!

Your boys may enjoy riding up there and watching....

DD4 and we love it. We go Memorial Day for a couple of nights and finish our week in the Mouse House. I have a feeling we are going to be staying there longer and longer in the future. The campfires are nice. The beach is really nice. And it is the laidback vacation you sometimes miss when you're non stop at the Kingdom. I absolutely recommend it. We go to the World often and are always excited about the "next" trip. But we have been even more excited about a couple of days at the beach. And we live near the beach!

Bumping,

We are seriously considering going to Vero over Spring Break next year.
We may do a WDW-Vero combo trip or just stay all five nights at Vero.
Were going to go with a big group of 12 to WDW, but 4 dropped out.

Also FIL just had heart bypass surgery last week, so we're thinking just a beach trip may be best. Nice and relaxing.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get a 2BR and a Studio, check in Sun 3/25 5 nights, at the 7 month mark.
Any comments on my chances?

Peace,
G4l

For sure it will be relaxing. Wish we had points left in 2006 use year to be able to go. :confused3

Plan for it to be a little cool unless you are in the direct sun. This has been our experience for the last 3 spring breaks.

WE are hoping to have our first visit there this june for three nights. we are on the wait list for a studio or an inn view for june 20 21 22 and hoping it comes throught. after reading this I am hoping even more.
