Homewood Suites vs Hyatt Place? (and some related qs)

We usually stay on-site but for an upcoming trip my wife and I are considering off-site. We are looking at the newish Homewood Suites or the Hyatt Place. Couple of questions related to this:

(1) Can anyone who has stayed at either (or both!) provide your opinions on the stay? In particular, we are interested in parking. We know both charge for parking, but we much prefer self-park over valet, and want to make sure the lot is large enough to make sure we can get a spot even later at night if we come back from doing other stuff.

(2) The Toy Story Lot - So it seems like both are very close to the TS Lot and a lot of people walk there to take the shuttles to/from the parks. However, I've read some stuff online from people claiming they do not allow walk-ups to take the shuttle? Just wanted to make sure taking the shuttle to the parks from the lot is an option even for people that do not park there.

(3) Walk to the parks? Also wondering how the walk is for those that have chosen to walk. Seems like people are saying about a 20 minute walk? In particular, for those that may have stayed onsite before, could you compare it to the walk from the DLand Hotel? That feels like a decent but not difficult walk from the DLand Hotel to the main gates, so would like that for comparison. Thanks!

Have you looked at the Hyatt House?

The park is walkable from the Hyatt Place and the Homewood Suites, but it is longish. I used the Toy Story Parking Lot shuttle and no one said I couldn't. First I've heard of anyone saying different.

Neither hotel has valet parking that I am aware of, both have self.

I liked the Homewood better, but the Hyatt House is my next hotel followed by the new Residence Inn where the Jolly Roger used to be.

I've stayed Hyatt Place.

1) My memory is fuzzy on the parking situation sorry

2) I see people reference walking to the Toy Story lot on the boards often, wouldn't hesitate to do that myself

3) I wouldn't walk, I get tired enough doing the parks! It's about twice the distance to the main gates as the Disneyland Hotel, so it would be double the walk.

I haven't stayed at either hotel but have stayed at the DoubleTree which is just a bit further away. The first time we stayed there we would walk to the park and use ART coming back. The walk was easy, about 20 min and our kids did fine with it (6 and 11 at the time). On our recent trip we walked to the Toy Story lot and never had issues getting on a shuttle and there were times it was quite clear we walked there because we walked past a totally empty parking lot to get on the bus. The Toy Story shuttles are a nice way to save a little walking and the only time we had to wait on one was at park closing but it was just a matter of minutes because they had to load all the ones in front before the other waiting shuttles could pull forward.

From that area I always walk in the morning while I am fresh and then take toy story back to the hotel when tired. I will be staying at Hyatt house on Labor Day weekend. I am hopimg the breakfast is good.

We have stayed at both, in fact we just got back from our stay at Homewood Suites. We walked to the Toy Story Lot everyday and had no issues. It was quite convenient. We take breaks during the mid-day and when we got back to the lot around 1 pm from the park, the line was super long for people waiting for buses to go to the park. So later that afternoon we opted to take an Uber rather than wait in a long line to get on the bus to go back to the park in the evening. We liked both hotels....the main differences that stand out to me for the parking is one has an underground garage which is nice in the heat (Hyatt Place) and the other has uncovered parking (Homewood Suites). The garage seemed quite a bit larger from my memory at Hyatt than the parking lot at Homewood. As I'm sure you are aware, Homewood has a kitchen which came in very handy too (full size fridge, stovetop, etc).
