Hold my umbrella while I find your poncho! A May 2012 TR-- NEW-FINALLY! 1/17; pg. 29

Hi,
Found your tr tonight and am all caught up. great report and pics so far. You all seem to be handling the rain well.

Looking forward to more.

Hi Scott! :welcome: Glad you're reading!

I, too, have a love/hate relationship with DTD!

Those candy apples look fabulous!!! Yum, yum, yum!

DTD is like a necessary evil---the best souvies are there! ;)

I have to admit, I've been lucky as far as crowds in DTD go. I guess that's why I like it there, I've never been there while it was too busy! :confused3
Mmmm EOS, so yummy!
Love the displays around the Lego store, they're just so amazing to think that someone built them out of tiny lego bricks!
Drooling over those candy apples here!

It seems as if every time we've been to DTD had been in the evening, on a weekend night and it was so crowded. The World of Disney store almost makes me have a nervous breakdown!

The candy apples are delicious! You need one during your Sept. trip! :thumbsup2

oooh oooh, I love Earl of Sammie too!!! ALL their sammies are SO SO YUMMY!!! Even my fussy eater-vegtarian daughter finds sammies that she loves there.

and your candy apple at Goofy`s!! MMM MMM MMM!!! We always get a make your own treat there and last time we did a candy apple too and shared it amongst the 3 of us. It was so delish!!!

There are so many sandwich choices at EoS, I think most anyone could find one to their liking.

We all stole some bites off Rachel's apple! ;)

Day 5, Part 2
Thursday, May 31

When I left you, we had just returned to the Poly after spending our morning/afternoon at DTD, and after having the same slowest driver known to Disney for both trips-to and from! :drive:

We had a quick rest and we were back out of the room. We boarded a bus to DHS by a little after 4:30 that afternoon, and were in the park by 5 that afternoon.

Since we had spent the entire day at DHS on Tuesday, we really just wanted to ride our favorites, with a few extras thrown in as time fillers. Since that was the case, we headed straight to Tower of Tower.

There was only a ten-minute stand by line, so we decided to ride right then. Since Elizabeth won’t ride this…still, even after eleven years of visiting…we sent her over to RnRC to grab fast passes.

When we finished, we were walking back past the entrance into ToT, and we saw some folks we know from school. It was a coworker of mine—she was Reid’s kindergarten teacher, and her husband and four children. I’ve taught three of their four children, and one of them is a classmate of Rachel’s. After talking a few minutes, we decided it would be fun to ride ToT together. So, we went right back into the line.

As we walked through the queue, Reid kept saying his stomach felt nervous. We all told him he was just being silly. Apparently, he was not being silly………………………..:worried:

As the ride was ending, Reid said those words no parent ever wants to hear…”I threw up.” He was sitting behind me, and I quickly said, “You didn’t…” as I turned around. Right then I caught the unmistakable scent of throw-up. As a teacher, I’ve seen my fair share of throw-up piles, and I don’t consider myself to have a weak stomach, but the smell of it just kills me…I can’t take it. Look at it all day---just don’t let me ever catch a whiff of it. As the lights were coming on, I began to try to wipe up his shirt and the little that was in his seat. The “elevator operator” was telling each row to exit. I told her that we’d had a little problem. She said to please exit and they’d take care of it. I just couldn’t do that. I kept wiping up the seat and the floor, and she started to sound a little angry when she told me to leave it. So, I just went ahead and exited the elevator. But, I sure did hate leaving any sort of mess there.

We stopped to look at the photo, and I wish I’d taken a picture of it! It would have appeared that the picture captured the beginning of the throw-up. His head was down…. Poor thing!

We all walked over to RnRC together and they asked if we wanted to ride using the single rider.

Since our fast passes weren’t good until later that evening, we decided we would. Our friend, Reid’s former kindergarten teacher---We’ll call her Mrs. A--- told Reid that she didn’t ride RnRC, and asked him if he would want to sit out with her. GOOD IDEA! :thumbsup2 Even thought the stand-by line was very long at this time of evening, we only spent about ten minutes in the single rider line. When we came out, Reid and Mrs. A were drinking a coke. She had some paper cups in her bag, and she had asked him if he wanted to share a coke. She’s such a sweet person. After talking just a little longer, we parted ways.

We walked over to the other side of the park, really with no purpose in mind. As we got back past the Sorcerer’s Hat, I remembered there was something I wouldn’t mind watching, something we hadn’t seen in years.

The “ha-ha” girl---

Reid was not too impressed with what he considered a “girl” show, but the girls and I enjoyed watching it!

UP NEXT: COME ON, WILL YOU! LET’S GO DO SOMETHING!

Ooooo, love that first picture of the ToT, looks even more creepy with the fog :thumbsup2

Poor Reid! I would have been like you, feeling bad to leave the mess behind, but what else could you do? We were on a bus one time with a little boy who threw up. He was with his Grandmother and she told the driver what had happened and said that mom was meeting them at the bus stop to help clean it up. The driver told her not to bother because he was going to have to take the bus back to the depot for a proper disinfecting anyway.

Poor Reid! I hope he was feeling better "after"

Maybe ToT needs barf bags, like M:S. My son used one there.

What a nice encounter with your friends.

I'm glad most of your group enjoyed the Visit with the Little Mermaid.

Aw poor Reid! Hopefully he felt better afterwards though
Besides the incident, sounds like you had a nice time with Reid's old teacher and her family

Oh, poor Reid. I hope his tummy trouble didn't last much longer. And I would have felt bad about leaving the mess, too!

Poor Reid! Ugh - nothing worse than being sick on a ride. And then the CM getting annoyed with you for wanting to clean up the biohazard. I hope Reid felt better soon.

Love that picture of the guitar. What a great close up.

I'm sure I probably missed an update while I was away last week, so I'll have to try to catch up.

Poor Reid! I hope he felt better quickly.

How strange that Cast Member got upset at you. Although maybe she was wanting to get it cleaned up and get the ride back in order quickly. Still, I don't like when Cast Members get upset. LOL!!

How sweet of Reid's teacher. She sounds like a very special lady!

Can't wait for more!!

I'm with Elizabeth, I won't ride ToT either!
Omg, poor Reid! I wonder if the ToT CMs have some sort of easy clean up system that they use (I can guess they see it a lot!) and that's why she wanted you out so fast without helping? :confused3 Still not right of her to be so rude about it.
How nice of Mrs. A to sit with Reid. I hope his tummy felt better for the rest of the day!

Awww, poor Reid! I hope he felt better after a bit.

I don't think I could do ToT without having an issue, either. I tried RnRC once and felt like I was going to have a problem.

How nice of Mrs A to sit with him and try to make him feel better! What a sweet lady!

I usually like the Little Mermaid show, but I hate waiting for it. There is no personal space in that room where they have you squish in before opening the theater up. :scared1:

Oh poor Reid! I know that he had to be embarrassed that he threw up on the ride. Your friend was so nice to suggest that Reid stay with her while ya'll went on RNRC.

Oh no, poor Reid. :( That was very sweet though of Mrs. A to sit out with him at RNRC. Hope he was feeling better after that. Do you think Reid will try TOT again?

Poor Reid. :worried: Next time you go back, he'll be saying, "remember the time I threw up on Tower of Terror?" :)

We haven't watched the Little Mermaid show since my 12 year old DD was probably 4 years old. She was scared of getting wet and didn't want to go back. I wouldn't mind seeing it again myself, but know my 10 year old DS and DH would agree with Reid!

Yikes. A throw-up incident is never a fun experience. And, I agree, after working with young kids, you sort of build up an immunity to the sight of it...
I hope Reid got to feeling better fairly quickly. It's nice that everyone still managed to ride RNRC single rider, though.

VotLM is a great show, but I don't know too many males that like to put up with it. :rotfl: I managed to get my DH on it once, but he has no intention of seeing it again any time soon. :confused3

I just found your TR and am joining in! I finished reading through the first day and just wanted to say I loved how your family really enjoyed all the different attractions at AK! I read so many TR where people only go to AK for a couple of hours - mainly to ride EE and possibly the Safari - and then leave. I always feel a little sorry for poor, neglected AK - especially since it's one of our favorite parks! But to each their own:) I guess I really shouldn't complain, since if their skipping the other attractions, that means shorter lines for me! Thanks for sharing the report - I look forward to catching up and hearing about the rest of your trip!

Yikes. A throw-up incident is never a fun experience.

The good news is that Reid's tummy troubles ended with this incident. I really believe that riding twice in a row like that just unsettled his stomach. He was fine the rest of the evening! :)

I also think he'll ride ToT again. Of course I'll have to convince him that it was not the ride, but the fact that he rode it twice in a row. When he was in kindergarten, he threw up at school the day he'd had spaghetti in the cafeteria. The truth was that he had a stomach bug, but he was convinced from that point on that the spaghetti made him sick and would never eat it again!

NOW....Enough throw-up talk for this trip report!

Hi Hannah! :welcome:

While I wouldn't say that AK is my favorite park, I still think there is a lot to do there. I'm not sure how people go, and are finished by 3 o'clock. I have to see the shows every time I'm there, and fitting those into the schedule, along with the other attractions keeps me there until almost park closing!

Poor, cute Reid. Was he feeling better after that episode?

Elizabeth will do Rock and Roll but not TOT?:confused3

How sweet of Reid's former teacher sitting with him.

I saw Little Mermaid in January with the girls for the first time in forever and really enjoyed it.
