I asked this in a thread but thought it might be a good thread on its own:

Do the holds for Platinum expire by tomorrow or Friday? What time? At midnight do they go back in inventory?

October 4 at 11:59EST

I would guess the rooms go right back into inventory, but not 100% sure.

They just go back into inventory. GTY bookings are not assigned, typically, this far out.
UGH. I was afraid of that. I have some strong preferences within our category (4a), but it was already GTY by the silver booking today. Oh well .

The hold expires but whether they go back into inventory or not depends on how DCL was controlling it. If they "oversold" some categories, anticipating that x% of the held reservations would end up released, not all the inventory would be returned. But chances are pretty likely that at least some of the space currently being held will go back into inventory allowing new bookings to be made. The bookings are cancelled automatically at midnight but if inventory is returned at the same time, I don't know. If I were waiting for a cabin on a hard to get cruise, I would be up at midnight checking it.

Also, even if the bookings were holding a specific cabin, I wouldn't expect a category to go from "guarantee" to being able to choose that specific cabin at midnight. I'd expect they would continue to sell it as a "guarantee". They might decide to start assigning cabins to some guarantees depending on who/how many cancelled bookings they have. I have had a guarantee assigned just a week after booking this far in advance (it was on one of the early Panama Canal cruises)

WOW. A gtd room assigned a year and a half in advance?! That's awesome! Did the room assignment "stick"? IOW, did the room number change at all before you sailed?

Opening Day bookings on the early Panama Canal sailings were similar to the Hawaii bookings this year - CRAZY! I booked my stateroom and then decided to book my parents. Within that hour, the price for the same category went up more than $350 per person. I wasn't able to get a cabin assigned for my parents. But a week later they had a cabin assigned. Yes, that was the cabin they eventually sailed in.

Now that was a long time ago. What DCL will do with all the guarantee bookings for the Hawaii sailings, I can't even guess. Maybe they'll do something similar and some will get their cabin assignments early. Maybe not and it will be more like "normal" and it will be over a year before they start assigning guarantees.

This makes sense. We aren't even on Hawaii -- just the 8 night Fantasty in March 2020. Seemed crazy to be GTY on opening day. I'm sure it will all be fine, but we had deck 10 once, and I prefer a vacation where I can sleep past 5am when they set up the deck chairs right above!
