Hi all! I currently have an AC Moore, Michaels and Joanne Fabrics near me. I've heard on several different boards that people love Hobby Lobby. I went on-line and found there is one about an hour from me. For anyone that can compare Hobby Lobby to one of the stores I have listed above, is Hobby Lobby bigger, better, worth the drive? I basically scrapbook (traditional and digital), have a new Cricut Expression, and do crafts with my homeschooled boys.

Thanks so much!

I moved two months ago from an area with ACMoore to one that has Hobby Lobby. I miss ACMoore! I miss the $1 stamp pads, and the paper, and the kids craft selection.
That said, HL has a better kids section than Michaels. And some different papers than the others, though JoAnns IN MY OPINION has a better selection.
My friend that lives here loves HL, so it is probably worth the drive once to see what they have and decide for yourself.

Hobby Lobby is a craft store, but they have lots of home decor items as well. Their prices are comparable to M's or Jo's, but their selection is different. They seem to carry different lines than the other stores. (They also carry more "tried and true" stuff, not just the trendy stuff.

You mention homeschooling, they have tons of science kits, rockets, airplanes...all sorts of fun stuff for the kids.

Occasionally they will run coupons in the paper, but they are not in an ad usually just a one side printed ad in the regular paper.

Now where I live, our Joanns is TINY!! Our HL is HUGE! The scrapbook section in JA could fit on one aisle of HL, while there must be 10 aisle in HL. there is a large section of science type stuff. Lots of home deco type stuff, a large wedding section, a large fabric section and the rest is decently split up. Our Joann's store is very small compared to some I've seen in other states. HL is similar to Michaels and AC MOore but each has their own brands and lines of items. If I had all 3 in driving distance, I would visit all 3 equally. Also, HL had coupons online every week and you can print them as many times as you want to.

The HL my SIL works at will also take a mobile coupon. I can just show them the coupon on my phone. Now if only the closest one was less than 3 1/2 hours away...

The ones around here is closed on Sundays - my understanding is that the head office is very big on Christian type church(I'm not sure which one) but they don't believe in working on Sunday

I have gotten several of their stacks just because they were really cute & the others didn't have them - so go at least once & see if it is worth it (I drive an hour for any craft store so it is worth it to me but then I usually go to several)

I have 2 A's, 3 M's, 1 J's and 1 HL that I can reach in 30 minutes or less. I love HL! Our's has a huge section!! I always watch for the 50% off paper sales, and I always print a coupon from off line. I like that their variety is different than the other stores. We recently got a new, huge Joann's too (The older one was too small for much), so this is a close second now. These are my two favorite places because I can always find good deals. I can not afford to go to A's often at all :goodvibes I agree- try it once and see what you think. I have yet to make it to a ACM.

I think it depends on how new and big the store is for any chain (as well as management), because I see huge differences between older HL's, J's, M's and new ones across the state.

I wish I lived near you!!!:thumbsup2

We also have ACM, J's and Mikes as well as HL. HL has a nice selection of Nesties dies which the others don't, and it's the only store at which I can still find horizontal 11X 8.5 albums/refills. Mikes seems to have more punches and die cut system dies/carts.

As Reddy said, HL is very christian so their stores are closed on Sundays and if you listen carefully the background music they play in the stores is usually religious.

Also, they do not take M's or Jo's coupons, only their own.

Thanks so much ladies. I think I will give it a try -- it's 31 miles from me. It'll just be a little road trip for me and the boys :-).

My HL will honor the coupons as long as it is for a specific item, not the 40% off or something. Like if it says XXX is $xxx at AC Moore, HL wll honor that if they have the exact item.
