Ho! Ho! Ho! Away we go - A Disney Christmas - 2/15 Dec TR final thoughts and FEB TR!

Hi there  joining in and going back to read....

..... aaaaand I'm back. Whew! What a whizz-bang start! :faint:

I'm in!!!

Oh my goodness, you must have been freaking out!!! We had 27 inches of snow in NY! It was totally crazy!!!

Can't wait to hear more about your trip!!!!!

I live in Laurel and spent most of the 18th standing in line at Giant getting supplies for the storm. I can't wait to read the rest of your report.

Love your TR so far!!

The supermarkets in NYC were jammed too. You would think milk was going to run out. My brother lives in Maryland and his flight for a business trip that Sunday was cancelled. You got out right in time!

All I can say is... :faint:
I feel frantic & exhausted just reading about your departure!

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your drive!

I'm here! Can't wait!!!

Ok- had to mark my place then come back to read. GREAT start! Your packing methodology sounds just like mine -- throw in everything you see on the bathroom counter then proceed madly around the house and toss in a few extra things that strike your fancy for good measure!

Love the picture of all of you in the sleigh - with your Vera front and center, I might add. It looks a bit chilly... looks like those blankets were not just for effect.

Can't wait for more!!! :)

Hi ya! I do have a method to my madness normally, but with everything going on I swear I couldn't think straight! BUT I didn't miss too much! A trip to Target in Orlando took care of the things I forgot!! :rotfl:

YES the sleigh ride was definitely perfect with the blankets! That bag was perfect for this trip, I brought the green one thinking it would be festive!

I think I read the whole thing without a single breath! Gasp! You are on your way!

YES, it was quite an adventure!!

I don't recall seeing you dance like this in the line for Maelstrom....

I'm in! I can't believe we missed our meet up! I hope we'll have another chance one day.

Your get away sounds breathless~ I hope you made it out of there with everything you needed!!

Oh yay! Glad you were there! I know, I know, I think that Sunday was a busy day for everyone, the timing was too tight I guess! BUT hopefully we will... Oh I had MOST everything... I had to make a trip to Target but otherwise it was fine!! :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness....that was TENSE! Even though I know you made it down there....I was still worried. EEEK!

Well it was quite an adventure for a few hours!! But smooth sailing afterwards! :thumbsup2

Oh my - I'm exhausted and stressed just reading that!
thfaintthud.gif

Yes it was a bit of that :scared1:, but thankfully it was only for a few hours!

I'm in for the ride! I think I held my breath the whole time reading about your night! So much snow for you guys and then a mere 3 hours south, here in Hampton Roads Virginia, we got nada...well, except more nasty rain.

Can't wait to hear more!

IT was quite a ride, believe me! IT was fun though all considering, quite an adventure! WOW! you got none? Crazy!

What a whirlwind start to your trip! We got 17 inches of snow down here in Stafford, VA and it started snowing around 7:30 p.m. I was a wreck worrying about my son driving in it when he had to go down to Fredericksburg to get his gf around 9 p.m. At least you were headed south so most of the snow was behind you. Can't wait to read more!

OH we were driving all along your neighborhood! That whole area was buried! I was amazed by the snow!

Hi there  joining in and going back to read....

I'm here! I will be back to read and comment later, but wanted to make sure I hit subscribe now.

SO glad to have you here as always!!!!

I'm in!!!

Oh right!!! the lines, could you believe them?? I was at Fresh Fields, and the line went down the aisles of the store at NOON, I was amazed!!!

Yes we did, I know we would have had a totally different story if we had kept with our original plan.. lots of stuff cancelled in and out of VA and MD that weekend.

Page two... :sad2: But I'm here!! Now back to read! I'm dying to hear about your drive down!

All I can say is... :faint:

Lots to share and I will, I am grateful it was only for part of the drive and not the whole drive... of course it felt like a century! But it was still fun even in the frantic and chaotic start! ;)

I'm in popcorn::

If you took 270 to 495, we must live very close. and yes, yes.. I was grocery shopping right there with you. I'm glad you made it out before the snow!

Here and WHOA!! That whole update was CRAZY! I am soooooo glad I live in Texas! Snow... What's that?!

Uh oh.

I shouldn't have said that !

Don't wanna jinx us! :lmao:

Can not WAIT to read more!

I had been reading your PTR and am fully hooked!! Couldn't wait to hear how the trip went...I was right here in MD off of 270 in the snow storm with the kids! Loved the fact that schools were closed for 3 days, but would have MUCH rather enjoyed them in DISNEY!! :thumbsup2
I'm waiting for the next installment popcorn::
Thanks for sharing! :)

Okay, I am all caught up now! Love the picture of all of you in the sleigh! How fun!

What a way to start the trip!!! I think I need a Xanax just from reading about it!!! :scared: Of course, the burning question in my mind is, "Did you forget anything?" Because I know me, and if I was having to pack in a hurry, I would have forgotten something major!

I second you Jackie... I worry terribly about forgetting things, so in a rush to leave early I would have gone crazy!

I sure hope we can meet up in June.

Ha! The weather is really funny all over! DO you get snow or ice there? Used to live in New Mexico, but I guess it depends where in Texas!

OK...1st update made me chew off my nails!!!

But I'll be back for more LOL!!

Paula

Hi ya Paula!!!!!!! SO glad to have you here reading along! Hope you had a merry Christmas! :santa:

HI! WELCOME!!! It is nice to know who is reading along with me! I really had fun writing that PTR and am planning to have as much fun with this TR too! Yes we were glad we got out of here in time! I was torn with the desire to be home enjoying the snow or being in florida. My DH told me I could stay by myself... lol! Clearly I had to get my priorities straight!!! We are in for a messy winter I think!!!

HI! SO glad to have you here CP!!! Honestly I was like some crazy whirling dervish running about grabbing stuff! IT was sooo funny!!! At the time it was anything but, but even then I know I was laughing about the whole scene because it was greatly comical! I didn't forget anything major -- we had our stroller! :lmao: But I did forget to pack the boys sneakers... I brought crocs, sandals, and dress shoes! I was missing a few toiletries (which was so funny because I brought a bag full of stuff!)

What a beginning! I think my heart rate jumped up a little! :rotfl: We drove up to Virginia the same day and ran into some snow but not much. A little further north and we'd have been into it sure enough!

I'm in Austin. Snow is RARE. I mean we get excited if we get a flurry and if it sticks to the hood of the cars overnight. Forget sticking to the ground, much less accumulation.

We do get ice storms maybe once or twice a winter.

But that's about it.

Supposedly early 80s this area got lots of snow, but it was never the norm, that's for sure!

Ya know what they say about Texas, though...... if you don't like the weather, stick around and it'll change!

:goodvibes

So the "fated hour of 9pm" was indeed quite accurate. That is a first in my experience with weather and predictions! Just two weeks ago they had said a dusting of snow that ended up as 7 inches! Now, at 9 pm it was rather light snow… However, the pretty, falling snow soon turned to snow sticking on the pavement that got progressively deeper as we drove down 495 towards the 95 exit. And then it became apparent that we were indeed dealing with heavy snow fall that, well, kept falling! And Falling! And Falling! :scared1: 95 became a parking lot. We exited 95 for route 1 – which was clear for the most part, and that worked out fine, save the few random cars that couldn't drive because they were getting stuck, and the cars that people just parked by the curb and left! SO shortly after, we stopped for some gas, and DH could see 95. The traffic looking like it was moving, so he got back on at the next exit. Unfortunately this was a little premature. Because it jammed up again a few miles later. :headache: There were too many people on the road for the road to be treated properly. Hence it was difficult for most cars to navigate. We were very glad that we had the V8 engine and the sports tires on the car, and that it was a heavy AWD model. The extra weight from the engine and full tank of gas kept us heading in the right direction. 95 was crazy. My DH urged me to sleep and not worry… preferably not watch, either! He had to navigate through parked cars, stuck cars, and at one point he drove on the shoulder past semi trucks. And as we made our way towards Richmond, we began to see the impact on travelers, with cars abandoned on the road, even three exits (which we were hoping to use to get back on Route 1) had trucks and cars jamming the exit ramp completely. I heard people ran out of gas because they couldn’t exit. I saw cars off the road stuck in snow, and the trees heavily covered with the full on snow falling, it was a wild sight on the road. To give you some perspective, it normally takes us five hours to get to Wilmington, NC. My inlaws have a beach house there, and we often head over there for a quick weekend trip. It took us nine hours to get to the same place. The snow in Virginia caused us all the problems. It moved up VA into MD as we were struggling through it, and I am glad we moved our plans. So as we hit the Richmond area it was nuts – hardly anything plowed – but as we finally cleared Richmond, and cleared the NC line the snow virtually stopped. Of course it was progressively worse in the region through out the day but fortunately we were long past that as the sun came up…

Sun brought breakfast, and we stopped at my favorite road side place, Cracker Barrel!! :goodvibes DH and I were fine after some food and coffee! The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful. We made it to Jacksonville then into Orlando, but of course arriving about four hours later than expected. Which was a drag, but at least we didn’t get stuck or in one of the many accidents we saw and heard about the next morning. We kept listening to the Sirius traffic for our area and the report was pretty bleak! Snow all day, and into the next night with 20 inches expected. :scared1:

The good news is that we rolled into the Dolphin parking lot at 4:30 or so… and thanks to my DH’s Starwood membership we got a nice upgraded room with park views. I was just glad that the signature Starwood “Heavenly Bed” was waiting for me! :cloud9: We got checked in, brought a few things out of the car for the night’s stay, and then we took the boat over to the Boardwalk for pizza and beer, and the boardwalk entertainment! :thumbsup2 We headed right back to the hotel, I threw the boys in the bath, and as they were getting into their PJs we had a great view of illuminations from the window! With that, we all went straight to bed with Dreams of Disney sugar plums dancing in our head... or maybe Disney Gingerbread...

I realize that this report has been all text so far! But, I just had to tell the story and of course I wasn’t pulling out my camera! But I have lots of photos from here on out! I have downloaded all my photos from my camera, and will start to sort them in Photobucket so I can start to share

:santa: DISNEY at CHRISTMAS :santa: with YOU!
