History Buffs: What's your favorite part of history to read/study about?

I love the history around the Civil War. It was such an important/hard time for our country.

I just bought the PBS series "The Civil War" by Ken Burns just yesterday, I can't wait to watch it!

I haven't met a time in history that I haven't loved to read about. I would go with the Revolutionary War as well as the time leading up to it. WWII is a close second, with Civil War right after.

Every time I think I know it all about the Pilgrims, I learn more. My town teaches me everyday.

One of my goals this summer is to walk the Freedom Trail with DD.

I love history! I go through phases--I am totally geeked up over Russian history at the moment. I just got over my obsession with early space travel. I love to read "historical fiction" like Michener (I'm currently reading Alaska)and Rutherford.

I love twentieth century popular culture, I am especially fascinated with the culture surrounding beauty rituals.

The Russian Revolutions;
The Great War;
The Chinese Dynasties;
World War 2.

Rich::

Henry the VIII's reign through the Golden Age.
The Renaissance-especially period art.
Dark through Middle Ages.
Roman Empire through it's fall.

The Holocaust/ Hitler/ WWII (but more interest in the European than Pacific theater)

I liked the major world war periods
Also liked anything before Renissance, guess the world was simpler then and they still belived in magic

I love History..my favorites would have to be

Ancient Egypt
The Reign Of King Henry VIII
The Prohibition Era

I like it all, especially American history.

I love Hawaiian and Asian history. I based my first book on what I know so it has been a blessing to me to intertwine my love for history and writing.

I also love world history that explains what is happening now, such as during the times of the Silk Road and also in the Middle East.

I live close to Williamsburg... I also love colonial American history.

It's so hard to narrow it down and just pick one. lol

I love pre-Columbian history. Especially the Mayans. But I'm interested in all history.

The Holocaust/ Hitler/ WWII (but more interest in the European than Pacific theater)
Me too, although I would also add the Revolutionary War.

Recently I just watched the series World War I on the Military Channel and that was fascinating (although long).

My primary interest is Medieval Englans, particularly the 14th and 15th centuries (hundred years war and the plague). I'm also fascinated by theViking invasion in the 8th century.

I like reading about the Tudors, Catherine the Great, the sea exploration of the New World, Colonial American History, the westward expansion, and the Revolution.

I can say the only period of history I am not interested in is WWI and WWII (although I am very interested in the Holocaust and will read about that).

I'm obsessed with Ancient Egypt. To the point where I got extremely excited over the discovery of Queen Hatshepsut's mummy and I've written the date for the Discovery Channel special in my calendar. So I don't forget to tape it and add it to my "Egypt Shows" collection.

I'm mainly a Civil War buff, but will study any military history. My next closest favorites are the Napoleonic era - well, generally the 19th century in general I suppose.

But as a general rule I will read any book about history, unless it is mostly about politics. I just plain don't enjoy politics at all - past or present. I read it only enough to understand how it impacted cultural or military life.

The American Civil War. Luckily my DH is also a civil war nut so he understands. Between the two of us we brought huge amounts of civil war books, artwork, artifacts and music into our marriage and our collection has just kept growing! We have been involved with reenactments & living histories for the past 6 years. It's really kind of an obsession for us!

The WWII era specifically aviation in the Pacific theatre fascinates me. I find the patriotism during that period of time is becoming more and more extinct as Americans from that time are passing. I also love the music from the 40's and early 50's.
