I came over to talk about Bill's interview from Africa and Hillary's time slot at the convention BUT I see this is no longer a Hillary support thread. I'm suprised that Dawn hasn't found you guys. Someone should pm her and invite her to join.

Interesting, we were just discussing Hillary's time slot a page or so back. You are more than welcome to continue that discussion instead of making snide comments that serve no purpose. If snide comments are all you are interested in making, maybe a thread started by Dawn is more your speed.

I cannot for the life of me find anything about Obama's new and improved abortion stance. Can someone link it for me, please.

:confused3 Don't know. I haven't been following that topic. All I know is the flap about the magazine interview he gave - which the link for is posted above. I don't know what he says today is his official stance on the subject.

This story (what I posted above) did hit mainstream news yesterday.. I didn't realize that.

Palestinian Brothers in Gaza Illegally Donate to Obama $29K, Says Reporter Aaron Klein

I like the fact that the Obama campaign declined to make a comment. You are accepting donations for pretty much anybody for pretty much any amount, facilitating the flouting of election laws and then you have no comment when something like this comes out. Nice.

Thank you Dolce27. I read the interview and I still have no idea what the man believes.

Sorry, I looked and looked for something positive at all about Hillary or anyone. Nothing. I guess you think my comparing your bashing of Obama to Dawn's bashing of Obama is 'snide.' I thought it simply honest and I guess I was a little distressed to find such similar posts being made by people who supported Senator Clinton. I just meant to say that since you all have officially joined the other side, why not join them or ask them to join you. One big party instead of lots of little ones, ya know? Strength in numbers. I also don't understand the hate and before you protest, read the last three pages of this thread.

I don't hate either candidate. And for the record, I really don't know who I plan to vote for. I can't vote for McCain and I'm not sure I want to vote for Obama. :confused3 I actually can't believe I'm saying that...I always vote Democrat, but I also can't vote for someone that I don't believe would be a good president. I'm not convinced, but I'm reading and watching everyone who is running. Unfortunately, if something doesn't happen to sway me, I might stay home for the first time since I turned 18 or else vote for a minor candidate.

I guess I am curious as to why the posts of the last few pages are considered hateful?:confused3

If you disagree with someone's position - is that hateful?
If you are suspicious of someone's actions - is that hateful?
If you do no trust someone's motivations - is that hateful?

And if so - why?

Some people on here are for McCain, some for Obama and some undecided. We all formed friendships on this thread during the primaries so we all keep coming back here to chat with each other. Obviously I post a lot on here and obviously I'm not a big Obama fan so I post what I find on him - especially since main stream media won't do it.

I do post some on the Conserv's thread but I'm not really friends with them. I keep coming back here because I'm more comfortable with the main people on this thread. If another HS wants to post what they find about McCain on here, positive or negative, I don't think any of us have a problem with that. Actually I would like to see more negative stuff about McCain – and not from the hardcore OS.

That’s something a few previous OS that have visited this thread didn’t understand. One guy posted a slam against us, the HS, and since he mentioned McCain in it (really just slurs – not criticisms) another OS got mad at us – we’ll primarily me – when we came back and criticized the first OS’s post. Neither the first OS nor the 2nd OS understood that the person’s slam was against us and not really McCain, despite McCain’s name in the post, and falsely accused us of only supporting anti-Obama and not anti-McCain on this thread. Not true.

I view this thread more of a clique formed by the primaries where we can still come and chat about what we want. Like I stated previously, I do a lot of posting on here and I keep posting anti-Obama stuff. That's the topic I want to discuss with people. But I come here to post discussion with people’s whose opinions I learned to value during the primaries and not to get into arguments with the OS. I join those OS argument threads when I’m up for a fight.

Adding: Oh, and since it was primarily Dem’s (with independents like myself) that supported Hillary, why wouldn’t the Dem’s continue to discuss the Dem nominee when they aren’t happy with the choice? Not all Democrats are going to get on the bandwagon behind Obama just because the DNC said ‘jump!’ This thread wasn't formed by Republicans.

Did Dawn's 'Whose going to read Obama Nation' -- or whatever the title was go poof? I'm not seeing it in my list of subscriptions and I was supposed to send someone a PM of links to Obama's connections with stuff. I can't remember who that person is and I'm not finding Dawn's thread to look.

Exactly!!:thumbsup2

Yea, that thread went "poof" very quickly. I was not keeping up with it, so I have no idea why, but it is gone now.

Thanks. It wasn't too bad the last time I'd checked it so it must have taken a sharp turn after I stopped reading.

Was interesting. I've been paying attention to PUMA. I don't think that they'll like or agree with the beginning of the article. They aren’t thawing to Obama at all.

Everything is on the 'energy crisis' today. The end of this article; I just happened to catch Obama's latest attack ad against McCain and on CNN:

A new Obama ad says Big Oil filled McCain's campaign with $2 million in contributions and that he "wants to give them another $4 billion in tax breaks." That $4 billion consists mainly of potential revenue from a McCain proposal to lower corporate taxes on all American businesses.
And the same AP articles were both on yahoo news and MSNBC online:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080805/ap_on_el_pr/obama;_ylt=AtiKnO7SpRx9nUUgsRPzWy6s0NUE
In stumping Tuesday in this key battleground state, Obama sought to link the troubled economy with Republican policies and offer his own energy plan in contrast. He has tried to cast McCain as more concerned about oil company profits and drilling than an overall energy strategy.
However, Obama himself voted for a 2005 energy bill backed by Bush that included billions in subsidies for oil and natural gas production, a measure Cheney played a major role in developing. McCain opposed the bill on grounds it included billions in unnecessary tax breaks for the oil industry.
The Obama campaign has said the Illinois senator supported the legislation because it included huge investments in renewable energy.
McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, said, "Barack Obama is opposed to offshore drilling and is also opposed to admitting that he voted for the same corporate giveaways for Big Oil that he's campaigning against today."
The McCain campaign pointed out that the ad doesn't mention Obama has taken some $400,000 from oil company executives.
About Obama’s energy plan. What exactly is it? I know there have been a couple of arguments about several aspects of it on this message board between the OS and several Conservatives but, I just don’t think his plan is practical.

He wants to give a $1,000.00 per family energy rebate? He’s going to tax the big oil companies to get this money? (You don’t think they won’t raise prices to off-set their loss so we’re still paying for it??) And exactly just how much will $1,000.00 help each family? I mean, this would be a one time rebate- right?

I agree that we all need to keep our tires properly inflated and our cars inspected in order to help with gas mileage – but I honestly don’t believe that’ll put much of a dent into this country’s gas usage. (I’ve seen ‘expert’ articles on both sides of this; yes, inflating tires will make a huge difference; no, inflating tires will not make a difference.)

It’d be nice if we could all drive hybrids. There’s a great chance that my next car will be a Toyota Prius but people can’t afford to just go and buy new hybrid cars to help save on gas.

Obama’s ok to use some of our reserves right now for a temporary fix on gas costs – but what’s the long-term plan? What will happen after the ‘temporary’ ends? We’d be back to where we are now - wouldn't we?

I'm not thawing to him either. I don't remember where I read this, but apparently the number of Hillary supporters who say they will vote for Obama has not budged since he got the nom. None of the pundits were expecting that.

Good question. He seems to be pro-off shore drilling now and in favor of tapping strategic reserves. However, neither one of these "quick fixes" amounts to a long term energy policy.

Gah seriously? Is it completely beyond your comprehension that some people simply do not feel that Obama is a suitable candidate but that doesn't make us Republicans? Is your POV really that small and black and white?

I'm sorry but your post is insulting. We are a group of friends who have bonded over a shared belief. We believed and still believe that Hillary was the best candidate. Most of us do not trust Obama or feel that at best he's incompetent. That doesn't make us Republicans. No matter how many times you try to make it so.

Eh I think that's a bunch of bunk. I don't think that the rift is healing. There are certainly some who are voting for Obama either because they are okay with him or because they feel he's the lesser evil. But there is a much bigger percentage that are still furious. (myself included) All you have to do is look at P.U.M.A. and follow the links to some of the different communities. There is a huge amount of anger out there. And frankly I think don't think reached it's peak. I think that we'll see a lot more anger after the convention.

In every presidential election, there are 10% of the electorate from both parties who vote across party lines. You guys are simply that 10% this go around. I just hope that when you vote for a potential McCain presidency that you consider voting Democratic in your state Congressional races.
