I meant in terms of "snapping under intense pressure". :confused3 I am unaware of any derogatory connotations. I certainly did not mean to imply anything was mentally wrong with her. Is that really how it sounded?
That's how it sounded to me. I'm glad that I was wrong :).

Rapture is not part of my religion. Sorry.
I'm an atheist ... which would explain why I'm still around if it is the rapture :).

Latest two polls in Indy show Clinton up 8 and 9. All the ones showing Obama up 2 or 3 points are 4 or 5 days old to bring the average to Clinton +2.2.

And NC ave is now at just over 10 when most were polling in the twenties a few weeks ago. So by Obama's standards that's already a victory, right? Just look at the highest number your opponent polls at and if you cut it down you did great even if you outspent them 3 to 1???

I want to here Obama denounce REV Wright not just his words :confused3 He needs to get this man out of his life. If he is going to take crap from this guy who else in the world will he take crap from and just denounce there words.

Where is this mans back bone and strength :confused3 Fight I say fight. This man just threw him under the bus.....it took him till today to send us a statement. Why did he not jump on that right away.

He needs to separate himself from Wright. REV Wright is a creep for doing this to Obama....very selfish hurtful thing.

I think it's too late for that. Wright hasn't changed his views. He's preaching the same things he always did. How can he justify separating from him now?

First he was his "spirirual Mentor" and all kinds of close, wonderful things were said about their relationship and closeness. Then he was "the crazy uncle". Now "he didn't know him that well" He has donated thousands of $$$ to that church. He just sounds like a hypocryte. At the very least this casts serious questions about his judgement. Just a few weeks ago he couldn't more disown Wright that he could his grandmother and the black community. Now he doesn't know him very well. Please...

This denouncement now just sounds like damage control on his part. Like Wright said, as a politician, he will say anything to get elected.

BTW, I posted this on the Obama thread, though I stole it from the Conservative thread, but figure you guys will enjoy it too... It's stupidly amusing. :)

:lmao:

I've got the tv on to see if I can hear what Obama said. I'm glad he finally broke with his "mentor" but I fear it's too little too late. I want to believe he is sincere. Not sure I can make myself buy that one. I lean towards he'll do whatever it takes to get elected, but I've been wrong before.

If he really didn't know what Wright preached, he wasn't very active in his church. If my priest said something completely out of character, it would spread through the congregation like wildfire...everyone would know even if they weren't there. And when I did hear (and saw video clips) I'd back away pronto. I also think if it was out of character people wouldn't have been high-fiving in the aisles and yelling out in agreement like I've seen in the video clips. People would be watching in shocked silence if they didn't agree.

REV Wright hides behind the church and GOD to have an audiance to get his crazyness across. He honestly believes all he has to say. Obama by all rights I'm sure does not believe what all Wright rants about...but sure some of it touches home. His wife is another story however. I have always thought she was racist from the first time she started with her interviews.

Just wonderful to have her as first lady. I would still like to see Obama run in 4 years and not at this time. I feel he still needs to do some growing. I can deal with Obama if he becomes POTUS. I wont like it but will deal with it. hopefully I wont be pushed from know till than to not vote for him if he gets the Nomination.

I do worry that he will make the problems we have at this time worse. The problem is one minute I feel and think one thing about him and than 5 minutes later I change my mine.

I cant get past 20 years of this church. Sure Wright has most likely become worse through his older age. But this is who this man is and has always been. How could Obama not see this...I cant buy that he hasent.

Obama was sincere today in his conference. I do believe him. But still everything together......it rocks my boat.

I dont get this..why would he say that he was never his mentor?????:confused3[/QUOTE]

Because like all politicians, when his lips move he is lying. Talk about hope and change. When wright was convenient he was a mentor, now he's a liability Obama hardly knew the man to speak to. The same man whom he called like an "uncle" after the last blow up. The same man for whom he called his grandmother who raised him a racist.

Over on Huffington Post - they are insinuating that the Governor slurred gay folks with this endorsement. I think that's ridiculous......

Easley on Clinton: She makes Rocky look like a 'pansy'
Posted: 01:35 PM ET

(CNN) – North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley formally endorsed Hillary Clinton's White House bid Tuesday, saying the New York senator "gets it."

"It's time for somebody to be in the White House who understands the challenges we face in this country," Easley said at a rally in Raleigh with Clinton at his side. "They are significant. I never ever thought the United States of America could get in as much trouble as we have over the last 7 or 8 years."

Easley, a popular two term governor who is unable to run for re-election because of term limits, also praised Clinton for her persistence.

"I've been accused of being persistent, and down right aggravating…but this lady right here makes Rocky Balboa look like a pansy," Easley said.

The endorsement gives the New York senator a symbolic boost in the state she is trailing Barack Obama by double digits. Easley is particularly popular with white, working class voters — a constituency that has favored Clinton in other primary states. He is the second superdelegate from North Carolina to back Clinton. Six North Carolina superdelegates have endorsed Obama.

Easley is a former backer of John Edwards' White House bid.

A recent ARG poll shows Obama leading Clinton by 10 points in the state.

On another note - anyone think Oprah will be making any appearances to help bring Obama's campaign back?

It sort of is, the word "pansy" can be a derogitory term for gay person. I don't think the Governor meant it that way, but I do see how some can interpret it that way. I'm sure the governor meant it more in the old "98 pound weakling" type sense. It may be a more common expression, with different meaning, in different regions of the country.

Either way, if he is a popular governor, I hope the endorsement helps her.

I was just reading that Maya Angileu (sp?) just endorsed Hillary for president. I'm wondering what Oprah thinks of that. If you read Oprah magazine or listen to her talk she thinks very highly of Maya and really takes to heart what she says. I think she refers to her as her biggest mentor. I'm thinking Oprah may be feeling conflicted...

Yes - Maya has been a Hillary endorser from the beginning. They probably agree to disagree.

I remember Maya during the first Clinton inauguration - she was pure brilliance.

That might be part of it. But I think it's also that Oprah is running as fast as she can from the stink of Wright. She distanced her self from him some time ago. She can't afford to get caught up in that pile o'crazy.

I find myself surprisingly conflicted about the whole Wright situation. On a basic human level I feel bad for Obama. Having someone so close to you turn on you, someone that you looked up to, has to be extremely painful.

While I'm glad that something is slowing down his campaign I wish it were something different. For his campaign to get derailed by religion, by the beliefs of another person is just wrong.

But at the same time, most of us in this thread, saw it coming, saw what an issue it would be. What has bothered me from the begining and what bothers me still, is how badly Obama has misjudged the whole thing. While his actions may have been noble from a friendship point of view, from a politician, someone looking for votes? not so much. He seems to be tone deaf to the way that others percieve things, either that or he's unwilling to compromise.

Clinton hits Obama directly in new ad

Clinton is out with a critical ad in Indiana and North Carolina.
(CNN) — Hillary Clinton launched a new ad in North Carolina and Indiana Tuesday that directly criticizes Barack Obama’s proposals to address the explosion in home foreclosures and rising gas costs.

The negative spot comes a week before both states’ crucial May 6 primaries and specifically attacks Obama for not calling for a freeze on mortgage foreclosures and not supporting a suspension of the gas tax.

Clinton has called for a 90-day moratorium on home foreclosures and $30 billion for an Emergency Housing Fund. Obama has called for a $10 billion foreclosure prevention fund to help homeowners who are victims of mortgage fraud sell their homes or modify their loans, to avoid foreclosure and bankruptcy.

In response to rising gas costs, both McCain and Clinton have called for a suspension of the gas tax ahead of the summer driving season. McCain's plan would lift the 18.4 cents per gallon tax during peak summer travel months and would suspend the 24.4 cent diesel tax.

Clinton, who rejected a similar idea in 2000, said her plan is different from McCain's, claiming his proposal would cost the government up to $10 billion that would otherwise be used to improve roads. Clinton has said she'd make up for the lost revenue with a "windfall profits tax" on oil companies, meaning their profits over a certain amount would be subject to a 50 percent tax.

Obama does not support a suspension of the gas tax, which he described as a political scheme that would save the average driver $25 to $28. He's instead proposing a tax on oil companies to help low-income families pay energy bills.

"It’s time for a president who’s ready to take action now," the ad's announcer states.

(Full ad script after the jump)

Announcer: The economy’s in trouble, the housing crisis broke. Hillary Clinton called for action. Freeze on foreclosures.

Barack Obama said no.

Now gas prices are sky rocketing and she’s ready to act again. Hillary’s plan: use the windfall profits of the oil companies to pay to suspend the gas tax this summer.

Barack Obama says no again. People are hurting. It’s time for a president who’s ready to take action now.

OK.. I guess that I need to understand this...

I know that Hillary is about to be raked over the coals for going 'negative' again. I think that I may be one of the younger posters on the political threads... I'm just now at a phase of my life where I actually care about politics. Even though I never cared before about politics, the “negative” pointing out difference in what I’m doing/want to do vs. what you’re doing/want to do ads is what I’m accustomed to seeing during political elections.

And honestly, I haven’t thought her ads to be that hard on him. When the elections were occurring in Texas; I don’t watch a lot of television but the Obama radio ads were just like what all the Obama supporters are furious with her television ads for.

Hillary has my vote. Until very recently I was undecided but I hope she the next to move into the White House!

The adds have been pretty much the same the only difference is that the OS say he has no choice to do it sometimes but by no means are they as bad as Hillary's :confused3

I have been voting for 30 years and this has been fairly mild. The general is when it will start up. People that have money will bye there own space and make there own adds to put out there to destroy the candidate that they don't want.

Many of the OS seem to think that Wright is not even an issue...they don't want to see it. Obama can do no wrong in there eyes...and it's all Hillary's fault in the book of Obama.

I agree that this type of ad has been very common as far as I can remember. They seem to generally say my opponent will "blah, blah, blah" and this is wrong because I will "yadda yadda yadda" -vote for me. I think that it's a common formula and some people suddenly fussing about it kind of surprises me.
