Hillary on GMA...

See, I just don't understand that. What has she ever done to make you think she is any less trustworthy than any other politician (admittedly a low bar to clear)? In fact, if you truly are a "left-leaning centrist", odds are her politics - and her record would back this up - are much closer to yours than they are mine, since I lean a bit further left. It's not that I think the only people that don't like her are righties...I'm not exactly a huge fan of hers, myself. But the completely unreasoning hatred that is spewed at the woman by the right tends to make me believe that's where the majority of it comes from, if not all.

I don't know if she is any less trustworthy than most politicians out there these days, but for me when she opens her mouth, I can't help but think she doesn't give a hoot about what she is saying - she's sat down with her policy advisors and has scripted a perfect response that she thinks the voters she is trying to reach will appeal to. I really don't believe in her convictions either. She clearly didn't pick up on anything from her husband, who had the knack of drawing EVERYONE's attention in the room, even if the person didn't agree with him.

I don't think there is an 'unreasoning hatred' spewed at her from the right; if you only pay attention to the Coulters, et. al. out there, then yes....you will believe they all spew hatred towards her. But you know you can't paint a picture merely by the extremism within the party. Are they the loudest usually? Yes - but they are just trying to shout over one another to sell more books...to gain more attention..and to make more $$$. Al Sharpton is the perfect example of that on the left.

What rubs me the wrong way with her when she got elected to the Senate. Hear me out before you draw any conclusions. It's how she did it that irritated me. She moved to N.Y. just to run for office. Nothing irritates me more than for someone to move to an area and then immediately run for the Senate. If you want to run for the Senate in a new area, move there, get involved in local politics and then go for the Senate. I can't stand it when people do that, republicans or democrats.

ETA: Nelson, that was REAL classy to make a play on John Edwards' wife having breast cancer. That might be a new low for the righties on this board.

I don't know why you are shocked. Nelson, once again, continues to prove that witty satire is indeed a dying art.

Silly question. :teeth: All you have to do is say the name "Hillary" and the unreasoning hatred poors forth. Mysogynism is like that sometimes. I guess she should just shut up and go back to the kitchen.

Eh, in my case, it's *reasonable* fear, not hatred. But thanks for thinking for me. Sometimes I have trouble.

I think you guys are misreading his post. He's probably not saying he was scared and intimated by a bright, intelligent successful woman. He's probably scared because she was great and he's now realizing she could easily be elected. Hil's not the evil witch her critics claim - the more people get to know her, the more they will see that.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Yep. Just look at the 10 times she's been in favor of action against Iraq and the 10 times she's been against it. It all depends on who she's speaking to at the time.

That about sums up how I feel about her too. I don't hate her, but I don't really like her either. There are several other Dems that (at the moment, 12 months before the Primaries) I like a lot better. If she gets the nomination, and nothing changes my mind in the meanwhile, I have to admit I'd take a gander at the Republican nominee, if they're moderate enough I might jump ship.

There is no reference to the Edwards's unfortunate situation, intended or otherwise.

:confused3 His post is an obvious allusion to John Edwards situation. That you found it funny makes it no less disgusting. Sorry, but breast cancer isn't something I make jokes about, even in that kind of satirical context.

Just a by the way type of comment.....

Many going through breast cancer find humor as a way to deal with it. Joking can be okay, satire or otherwise..... And I do speak from experience....My DH's family has the BRCA1 gene, and his mother had breast cancer twice (at 29 and 44-passed away at 46), his aunt is finishing her treatment, and his cousin (my BFF) just had a radical prophylactic masectomy. These are just the cases in the immediate family in the past few years. You better believe we laugh about it....if we didn't we'd cry.

Oh, and I did think Nelson's satire was amusing!

Keep up the sarcasm dude!

I don't hate Hillary. I don't care for her politics.

She's the one that said she wanted to TAKE Exxon/Mobil profits.

She's the one that wants to give us universal health care.

She is a Carpetbagger with loyalties to no one but herself. You must ask yourself if you want a Carpetbagger as President of the United States.

car·pet·bag·ger [ krpət bàggər ] (plural car·pet·bag·gers)

noun

Definition:

1. post-Civil War opportunist: a Northerner who moved to the southern United States after the Civil War, especially one seeking political or commercial advantage

2. outsider seeking local vote: an outsider whose only interest in coming to a place is to win it as a political seat

I guess if you squint real hard and drink a little, you can read absolutely anything into someone elses musings. Stop trying to decipher the hidden meaning and take it for the satire it was meant to be.

While the specific choice of New York can be debated as a political move (Bill reportably was the one to push for it so he could open his offices in Manhattan), Hillary actually is very much a Yankee. A lot of people mistakenly believe she hails from Arkansas. Only Bill does. Hillary was raised in Illinois and went to college and law school in Connecticut and Massachusetts before getting married and moving down to Little Rock with Bill.

Can someone who saw this please tell me (objectively) what was said?

I meant to watch - I understood they had invited an RN to ask her questions about health care. I hope her views have changed from the last plan she came up with. (not trying to bash Hillary, but that plan would have had my family living in a cardboard box under the interstate! :scared1: ) I'm hoping she has something more realistic as I recognize it is possible she could be elected President.

You just proved my point. She has NO association with the state of New York. Hence the Carpetbagger label.

For those who dislike Senator Clinton because you feel she's a carpetbagger, do you feel the same way about Mitt Romney?
