Hillary on GMA...

For those who dislike Senator Clinton because you feel she's a carpetbagger, do you feel the same way about Mitt Romney?

Can you explain that one please? I don't know much about Romney.

I haven't followed MR's career, but I laughed at the Rep. party here when they put Alan Keyes on the ballot for senate a few years back.

That was stupid, and an example of Carpetbagging.

But if it was OK for Hillary to do, why isn't it OK for anyone else? She set the precedent for everyone else. Hey, the NJ Republican party was going to try and bring Rudy over to run against Corzine! Based on her background, she could have gone to Illinois, MA, CT or Arkansas-but the springboard to the Senate was better from NY. Now, she has done a very good job as NY's Senator-at least until she started campaigning, I don't know how much time she's spending on NY now.

(not trying to bash Hillary, but that plan would have had my family living in a cardboard box under the interstate! :scared1: )
How so?

As with most everything else about Hillary, critics of her health care proposal have distorted and vastly misrepresented it. I can't image how anything in her plan would have lead to a family living in a cardboard box under the interstate...

Look - she moved to New York and ran for Senate under New York's rules. Why do some people have a problem with that? New York's rules allow somebody who has recently moved to the state to be their Senator. The people of New York voted overwhelmingly for her. She has by all accounts been a good and popular Senator well representing her State. After seeing the job she did for six years, the people of New York voted even more overwhelmingly for her. What's the problem? (other than people don't like Hillary and look to pin things on her.)

Now, if somebody doesn't want to vote for her as New York Senator because they feel she isn't enough of a New Yorker, I can see that. But why somebody would dislike her, or not want to vote for her for President because she ran for Senate in New York - that I don't get.

I think she used NY as her stepping stone. To me it always appeared calculated and the intent was to prepare for a presidential bid. Lots of people get started in politics at the local level of their community and may progress from there, but they have a genuine passion for their community. I'm not saying she doesn't care about NYer's, but I think she viewed them as her fast ticket to a run for the WH. Some people will admire her ambition, while others just view her as an opportunist.

There was complete terror where I work back in 1993. She wanted to compensate well-educated health care professionals making life-and-death decisions on a ridiculously low level. Obviously I was being facetious about living under the interstate, (I was trying to be funny - sorry it didn't come off that way) but we certainly would have lost our house and had to move someplace much less nice. We don't live in a mansion now by any means, it's just a 3 bedroom home, and we are not wealthy. We haven't been to Disney since 2003! But our lifestyle would be dramatically altered if my salary were suddenly cut in half :(

I am hoping that her new plan recognizes the long years of specialized education and training that health care professionals go through.

Does anyone know what she said about it?

We actually heard a figure she said she thought was sufficient compensation, we didn't distort it or make it up. She said it.

Does anyone know what she said about it on Monday?

I was going to ask the same thing :thumbsup2, but technically Romney is not a carpet bagger since he lived in MA for close to 20yrs after college.
Although I feel he moved back to MA just because the governorship would be his best stepping stone to the Presidency, as opposed to staying in Utah.

The same could be said about Romney.
Don't get me wrong, I am not voting for either of them. I find Hilary way too polarizing and I feel her Presidency would be a term of constant gridlock, but I don't agree with calling her out for using NY as a stepping stone, and not doing the same for Romney who moved back to MA specifically to run for governor.

I am not a Hilary fan here, but.....if enough New Yorkers have embraced her, what is the problem? They re-elected her with a huge margin. They must feel that she is serving them well. So if this suits her ambitions AND the needs of her carpetbagged constituants is her behavior inappropriate?

But I clearly hope she does not win.

If NY wants her, then I hope they get to keep her.

True, it is up to the voters of the State of New York as far as the Senate Seat goes. However, when it comes to President of the U.S., it is the country's voters that must decide. I do not want a carpetbagger as President.

New Yorker here. Love Senator Clinton and wish she'd stay our Senator forever. However, I also think she'd make a great President and would have no beef with her if she was elected President and left the Senate. We New Yorkers appreciate the all the hand wringing and worry you residents from the other 49 states have about us poor little New Yorkers being used as a "stepping stone", but you're not going to find one of us who feel used.

Are you Ed Schultz the talk radio guy? ;)

You just proved my point. She has NO association with the state of New York. Hence the Carpetbagger label.

So just exactly what state should she have made her bid from to satisfy you? Her birth state? The state where she spent the most time? The state she bought her first car? What? Let's face it, as far as Hillary is concerned, no state would be okay with you because you dislike her. If it were a Republican, I doubt very much you would have the same level of outrage.
