highlight and cut tip

Oooh you can see me because I posted this in another thread earlier!

I have half-head highlights. This means he dyes the top layer of my hair, right up to the roots, and some towards the front so it doesn't look weird when I tie my hair back.

The main reason for this is that it takes 4 hours to do my highlights anyway (I have REALLY thick hair - you can't tell from the picture because it was straightened that night).

So the top layers are dark blonde and the under layers are my natural medium brown. Since I have layered hair, this means that the ends of my hair are medium brown. I REALLY like it...I'd like to dye the underneath of my hair and even darker brown for more of a contrast but I don't really have the time or the money to be messing around with and upkeeping my hair right now :sad2:

Anyway here's a cheesy photo of me looking very tipsy...you can kinda see the different colors between the top and the bottom of my hair :)

You're very pretty and I do like your hair.

I go to a swanky salon that has different rankings for their stylists and therefore different price levels. Everywhere from the basic stylist that charges $30 a cut to the master stylists that charge $60-75 for the cut. These stylists usually have their own assistants as well. A full head foil for me runs $90 and the cut is extra. I tip 20%.

My DH who gets his basic run of the mill men's cut at $12 just can't see the logic in women paying so much for haircuts. He thinks its a total racket. And to some degree he's right. They only charge so much because we woman are willing to pay for it. But you know what? My hair color and cut has never looked so good in all my life. I've struggled with my wavy, frizzy hair for decades and it finally has the right style that fits me and no longer drives me nuts. As long as we have jobs, pay our bills on time, and have the money, I'm treating myself to this.

Can we see some pictures of all of you guys who are spending so much? Maybe it is worth it. Maybe my hair doesn't look as good as I think it does. :confused3

A picture of me with some serious bed head is floating around the DIS today.

Plus that, with the remodeling we're doing, we have to cover the grays!

Thanks! I love my hair. It's not really a professional hairstyle, though, so I figured if you're going to have two-tone hair, college is the time to do it ;)

I'm not normally that pretty or smiling, that took a good couple of hours
work! :lmao:

I was trying to find you a picture of how I normally look but it seems I'm tipsy in most of the photos :lmao: :sad2:

EDIT: OK this makes me look bad...but here's me in January 2005 with my natural hair color...

Don't judge me!

And for those who don't believe it takes 4 hours...there's THIS much hair to dye:

That's normal in my eyes! :upsidedow

I like your hair lighter! It looks very nice on you, and you look nothing like a mushroom. ;)

Thanks. I like it lighter too, but I need those $400 a year :sad2:

It isn't cheap, is it? I have a daughter graduating from college next year and she wants to go lighter and I'm trying to convince her that the maintenance is going to be expensive, but as usual, she won't listen to me!

I was a Stylist for 7 years. No matter what I charge for a cut only I got avg of $5 for a tip when I left 10 yrs ago it was 28(hour cut) for a woman 19(1/2 hour cut) for a man or kids cut. Most of my woman clients got color also everyother appt the tip would then be 15 to 20. most of my clients also tipped in cash even if they paid with CC or check. At Christmas I got my usual tip plus the cost of a cut or more from my clients.

I tip him well, because he does it so cheap for me. I normally pay £75 ($150) with tip.

If you tip £10 on a £65 hairdo that is a GOOD tip for here, but it seems it is not in the States, as it is less than 20%. :confused3 I would think most British hairdressers would faint if they got a 20% tip. :rotfl:

With the prices they charge it's unsurprising though. They sit and tell me about where they're going on holiday, make me a crappy cup of tea and then expect to be tipped! No wonder they can afford that vacation ;)

:) What is it with them and that awful tea?

You have lovely hair, BTW. Are you going to be teaching in primary? You will need it tied back to avoid the dreaded N-I-T-S!

I know I am lucky as my girl closed her shop and does hair out of her basement. I am charged $45 for a cut/style and color. I have been going to her for 22 years, so this is the price for her older clients. I also go every 3 weeks. The price for her newer clients is more.

I like the lighter color as well. It is very flattering.

Secondary school - I don't like little kids, too many bodily fluids involved, yet teenagers who're a foot taller than me doesn't bother me ;)

I think lighter hair suits me because I'm quite pale in my face - my Mum always joked she knew that I was ill if I actually had some color in me! I look a bit gothic with my normal brown hair...Both my sisters are blonde so I knew it'd look alright!
