highlight and cut tip

Tipping over 25% is overly generous in most situations. When your appointment time was 4:00 and they don't start highlighting your hair until 4:49 it becomes insane. :)

In that case, the hair dresser was probably running late due to a chronically late, undertipper that can't control their family.

At my salon when you check out they offer you little envelopes for all the people that serviced you. I tip the shampoo person $7 (but they give you a head massage, not just a shampoo, yum!), the waxer gets $5 if I only have brows done, $20 if I have brows and bikini done (imagine how gross that job must be!!!). The hairdresser gets 20% of the cost of the cut and color, assuming I like the job they did, which I usually do. Once I had someone turn my hair streaky blond even though I described what I wanted done, which was NOT blond. That really made me mad so I did not tip them at all. I was especially mad because she knew she messed up--basically left the bleaching in too long, and then tried to convince me that it was a "terrific summer look." Bleech.

The nice thing about getting the envelopes at checkout is that you don't have to worry about how much you should tip at the time, since different people charge different amounts for their services, based on experience level.

I always tip a minimum of 20% for any hair services, and often 25%. After all, what could be more important than my HAIR?? ;)

I usually tip about 15% for my hairdresser. I go to a locally owned salon and my hairdresser has taken care of my hair since I was about 5 or 6. Nuts, isn't it? Anyway, I went a last month to get my roots done and a layer cut/trim and it was $50. At the end of this month I am going to get my highlights touched up and I usually pay $60 for that. I only get a cut every other month or so.

I have no idea what I'm going to do when he retires. He's getting close to 60 :( I think I may beg and offer to pay him twice to do it for me after he does. LOL!

I hate you!!!

I am 40 and I have little gray hairs all over. Why me????

Oh don't complain!! I will be 29 the end of this month and my head is FULL of gray, that's why I highlight it!!

I have my hair cut every five weeks, $35 and I tip anywhere from $7 to $10. Every other cut I have highlights and a color which is $130. I leave $25 to $30 for a tip. I have curly hair and I don't like to fool around with it so I want a good cut so that I can wash my hair, dry it and be done fast. My hairdresser is very good, although not as good as the wizard who used to work for her. He was amazing and I loved it when he did my hair.

My DH goes to his friend who just raised her price to $15 and asked me how much I paid for mine. He choked clutched his heart and asked me if I wanted to switch and go with him. "No." Was I sure? " You bet." Was I aware how much I was spending? "I would give up cooking dinner and feed you peanut butter before I would give up my hairdresser." DId I want to just try her? " DO you want dinner tonight?"

Two or three months later I asked him to pick up my DGD from the salon on his way home from work. My hair was bad that day and the wizard was doing my hair. Well between the foil on my head and the tattoos and piercings on my hairdresser, the poor guy could not gt out of there fast enough. I was there about 3 hours and DH said, "Gee. 3 hours, for $35? That is only $10 an hour, not bad!" Now you know that I never said a word, his poor heart would never make it and he never could change my mind :lmao:
