This may sound like a dumb question but here is goes .....

DH and I 50 points that we won't use so we are considering renting or transferring.

Let's say a person needs 200 points to get their reservation. Can someone rent points from several DVC owners to accumulate enough points to total 200? Or do they look for someone who is offering 200 or more points? If they can do it the first way, who makes the reservation? Do the points have to be transferred to one account?

The basis for the question is what kind of work is involved on our end with renting / transferring (other than finding a purchaser and having the right contract)?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

TIA! :)

Best to post 50 points for rent, easier then transfering with use yrs and all. You can get a studio at OKW or SSR. You might lose some if the points needed come out less. You could bank your points for next year or bank any points left after renting. You call MS and make the reservation for your guest.

Only DVC members can have points transferred into their account. Points are useless to non-members. Members are limited to only ONE transfer per Use Year- either into or out of their account.

Or do they look for someone who is offering 200 or more points? If they can do it the first way, who makes the reservation? Do the points have to be transferred to one account?

If they need 200 points for a reservation, they will usually need to find one member willing to assist. They can have several members each make part of the reservation for them, but that requires a lot more coordination. The member offering the points would make a reservation in the name of the renter. If a transfer is needed, all points must be transferred into one account - or, again, find multiple members willing to assist.

With 50 points, it may be most efficient to offer to make a reservation on the Rent/Trade Board. Be sure to follow the posting rules (at the top of the board)

Good luck!

Thank you for your responses!

MIKRON, I can't bank them unfortunately - they are left over from the 2005 use year and were already banked.

I think I will just hold off banking my 2007 use year points so I am able to accomodate up to 100 points just in case someone is interested since I have until Feb to bank my new points.

Hopefully you are actually talking about your 2006 points - no one has their 2007 points yet and the earliest banking deadline for those would be at the end of July for those with a Feb. Use Year.

If you don't really have a need for some of your 2006 points, saving them for a rental until you banking deadline may work well for you since some renters may need more than 50 points.

Good luck!

oops - yes, 2006 points. You know, the whole point / use year thing was a bit confusing when we signed up in '01 and apparently I STILL haven't gotten the hang of it LOL!!
